A favor for his twin brother put Royal Conner under the spotlight. The highest bidder won and she’s nothing like he thought she’d be. One look and he’s smitten, one conversation and he’s intrigued, one kiss and he’s lost.
Paula has too much on her plate to deal with a man. Helping her daughter recover from a life threatening illness, taking care of her crazy family, and helping everyone she can through her job at the hospital, there’s just not enough time or energy in the day to date. Until she sees a handsome tuxedoed man who’s uncomfortable with the spotlight shining on him. One look and she knows she has to have him, but only for one night.
Can Royal change her mind and dig in with that family of hers to make Paula see that she can get everything she wants and still keep the family and the life she loves?
I just loved Royal he is amazing. He never gives up and the Conner brother are still just amazing. Now there are only two left to fall in love. Can't wait!
Paula is busy focusing on her daughter and her family when she gets dragged out to a bachelor auction and sees Royal Conner on stage. She met him briefly and thought he was the most gorgeous man she had ever met but never thought she would see him again. Deciding she needs one night of fun she intends to win him but life happens and her big win gets pushed off for awhile.
Royal has sworn off women for a year because he seems to find the craziest women he can find. When he gets called to go on his date he is reluctant because he saw the winners and he is not sure which Golden Girl he won, but when he finds out it is Paula he is thrilled. He wants Paula for more then one night and has a plan to insert himself into her life but Paula is a woman who is used to being in control can she begin to share the load?
Paula's family is hilarious reminded me of Golden Girls meets Sunset Boulevard meets Designing Women, they are so much fun and hope they have moments in future books because it is hilarious. Royal was wonderful and determined when it comes to Paula. Paula is used to being in control and it is hard for her to give up some of that control she keeps close to her chest. This was one of those books you pick up and finish in one sitting.
I love all the inhabitants of Rojo, TX, but these Conner boys are by far the sweetest. This is the 5th book in the series and though the book works as a standalone, it is worth reading the books in order to really get to know all the characters properly, of which there are many.
Royal has been roped into taking part in a charity bachelor auction by his sister-in-law. It was supposed to be his twin brother taking part, but as he’s now got a girlfriend since he agreed to take part, Royal, who was single, took his place instead.
Paula comes from a slightly eccentric family. She lives with her daughter, parents, grandmother, great-grandmother and every day is an adventure. Today’s adventure involves her mother and grandmother choosing to buy her a date at the charity auction. Paula thinks she might get a fun one night stand out of it, but thinks that her life is far too busy to manage to fit a man into it. Royal thinks Paula is hilarious and great company, not to mention gorgeous, why would he only want one night?
This book is filled with witty banter that made me laugh out loud whilst I was reading it. This is usually the case with Cee Bowerman’s books, but this one seemed even more fun than usual. I particularly liked the way all the generations of women in Paula’s family banter with each other, especially Paula’s daughter.
I want to know these people in real life. They are funny, warm and caring. They put their family first in every way and adore each other. We could all stand to have a little bit of Conner Brother’s family love in it.
I don't care for books where the mc's go into their first interaction wanting only a ons. I was worried that his pushiness in the beginning would be too much because no means no and all that jazz. Thankfully this wasn't too bad. I did enjoy the story. You would miss a bit of the story if you haven't read any of the other books, you see a lot of the previous characters in the series but I bet you could follow asking with this one.
Omigosh…I love Cee Bowerman…I do! Her books are a g**d*** laugh riot. This is a good book. As far as plot and characterization go, it’s a 4½ star rating…easily…! BUT, there are so many egregious errors that make the book difficult to read that Ms. Bowerman cannot be rewarded for them with 4- or 5-stars. If she would get her books expertly proofread – then correct the errors found – her books (every last one of them, I strongly suspect) would be a 5-star pleasure to read.
This was my first foray into the world of Connor Brothers Construction and since it’s the fifth in a series, I have missed a lot of the action. However, it goes to the quality of Ms. Bowerman’s writing that I am easily able to slip right into their world and understand what’s going on. The characters are totally abfab (absolutely fabulous). Who wouldn’t love to spend time with Paula’s family? Oh those women!
OK. First, there’s Paula, our main female protagonist. She’s a bit straitlaced but graced with a fine sense of humor. Soon enough we figure out where her good humor stems from: the whimsical ladies of the family. These would be her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, all incredible women in their own right. What is not to love…??? And her dad is just as delightful; he tells her daughter, Brooklyn, to come downstairs because “we’re going to talk to strangers and eat radioactive dirt.” To which Paula’s mom (his wife) says, “Honey, he’s messing with you. The radioactive dirt gives kids a healthy glow. You used to have it, but it went away when you got that stick up your ass.” And, yeah, it’s all said with a lot of love. And humor.
Then there is the main male protagonist, the eponymous Royal, twin brother of Ronan [who apparently has been featured in a previous book? (just guessing)). Royal and Paula have a fun meet-cute in a hospital elevator that sets the delightful tone of the book.
I love the way each chapter begins with a quotation from one of the book’s characters. They are all pause-worthy and often thoughtful. They run the gamut from “I’m pretty sure vegetables never killed anyone” (and that chapter is veggie funny!) to “Sometimes I feel like I should be contributing more to society, but then I remember that fat-bottomed girls make the rocking world go round. I’m already dong my part.” Nice reference to Brian May of Queen. Very cool.
As a transplanted Texan, born in Michigan, I appreciated the references to Vernors (the only ginger ale worth drinking, best when made at the Ecorse plant from the Detroit River water) and a lovely tip o’ the hat to Faygo Beverages, too (pineapple Faygo, anyone? Yum!).
And now the errors…darn, I wish there weren’t so many…and these are not all of them by any means: Initially, it is extremely difficult to know who’s who. Mymy isn’t Granny…or is she? Mymy is a nickname but that isn’t obvious at first: it kind of reads like a typo. “…that only happenned in porn….” I think that’s “happened” with one “n.” [by the way, that’s a tough error to make: my word processing package squawks and throws a wavy red line under misspelled words] In a chapter headed “Royal” to indicate the speaker, the writer says, “I invented sliced bread and was the first person to pair peanut butter and jelly,” Royal said, his face serious. Royal is already the speaker using first person narrative. The dialog structure in this, as in her other, books is atrocious and here I think she confuses herself, not to mention her readers.
There are big problems with dialog and continuity. For instance, in chapter 5, “Royal” heads the chapter telling us he is talking. Four pages into the chapter, there is a break but no new heading. We assume Royal is still speaking. However, he isn’t. It takes a few pieces of dialog to establish that these are now two women speaking and the first person narrative is probably Paula.
Here’s what I mean by bad dialog structure. Here’s the setup: Paula goes to Reba’s house and they discuss Brooklyn, Paula’s daughter, spending the night with Vada, Reba’s daughter. Remember, they are at Reba’s house and Reba has served Paula a drink. “’I’m terrified of dating,’ I blurted. “’Well, there’s got to be a good reason for that.’ “’I’m sorry. That just popped out. That drink I gave you is truth serum, by the way.’ “’I don’t care what it is, it’s delicious. I’ve never even heard of it before. Now back to the fear of dating. You’ve got me curious now.’”
As written, the speakers are these: Paula: “I’m terrified of dating,” I blurted Reba: “Well, there’s got to be a good reason for that.” Paula: “I’m sorry. That just popped out. That drink I gave you is truth serum, by the way.” Reba: “I don’t care what it is, it’s delicious. I’ve never even heard of it before. Now back to the fear of dating. You’ve got me curious now.” The conversation makes no sense since Reba served Paula the drink and Paula is terrified of dating. But the discussion, as punctuated, has Paula serving Reba a drink and Reba who has never heard of the drink she just served. Wait…huh…?
Here’s how it would have made sense: “I’m terrified of dating,” I blurted. “Well, there’s got to be a reason for that.” “I’m sorry. That just popped out.” “That drink I gave you is truth serum,” said Reba. “I don’t care what it is,” I said, “it’s delicious. I’ve never even heard of it before.” “Now back to the fear of dating. You’ve got me curious now.” I added some speaker indicators, which were badly needed, and divided the dialog into appropriate pieces that make more sense based on content, within the context of two ladies speaking.
The book is rife with poorly defined dialog; it becomes a struggle just figuring out who is saying what and to whom. It should not be this difficult. These dialog “oopsies” infiltrate the book alarmingly.
However, be that as it may, I so want to go to a nice, long lunch with Paula, Lorene, Granny and Mymy…oh what a hoot that would be…!
Cee Bowerman has outdone herself with Royal's story. Godzilla and Polly Pocket were the great together. Brooklyn, Mymy, and the rest of the characters just made it better. I laughed(mostly at B), I cried, and I got mad(for B, again). Royal made me proud when he went to the school and had Brooklyn's(B) back. I love every book that Cee Bowerman has written and find myself rereading them time and again. Thank you for sharing your stories with us. I very seldom give 5 stars, but if I could give this story a 10, I would. This is a standalone book, but with all the Connors, the books would be better if you start at the beginning.
One of the things that I love most about this series is that it consistently revolves around the unconditional love of this amazing family. Having been through a horrific tragedy that would cause the strongest people to fall, these brothers have depended on their love and bonds between them to survive. Slowly, they're one by one meeting the amazing women who are to become their everything, as well as growing their own unique family. It's certainly not a series that anyone will want to miss!
This story, along with the others, have definitely hit very close to home for me, especially since both of my parents have been the recipient's of transplants, and my brother was a donor after his death. I understand this from both sides, and believe me when I say that this series has had an overwhelming emotional impact on me. Even for those who have never had to deal with either of these situations, the author has done a tremendous job describing the physical, mental, and emotional aspects of each side. While there is quite a bit of this story that is truly heartbreaking, as well as emotional, there is so much more than that. With the awesome characters, absolutely freaking hilarious banter, crazy antics, sexy intimate scenes, and unexpected twists, you won't be able to put it down until the very end! (& then you'll just keep wanting more!!!) If I could honestly give this authors books higher than 5 stars, I would do so easily, as they're definitely worth it! I'm always looking forward to seeing the next new release by this author, no matter what series it is! If you haven't already read the previous books in this series, I would suggest that you start from the beginning. Each book is a stand alone, but there is information in the first couple of books that tells more about the characters, their past, and some connections they have to other series. I would highly recommend that you start with the Texas Knights MC series, then Texas Kings MC, and then continue the reading list by the author or her Amazon author page. I can guarantee that once you start reading these series, you won't be able to stop until you've finished all of them. Each book is absolutely fantastic, beyond hilarious, and you certainly won't be disappointed!
I would definitely recommend this book, series, and exceptional author.
Royal is book 5 in the Connor Brothers Construction series by Cee Bowerman. Royal was a hilarious and oftentimes sad story of Royal and Paula. Royal is the twin to Ronan and has sworn off women for a little while after a spate of disasters. That is until he meets Paula and her hilarious daughter. From there he is smitten, but he needs to convince Paula that she too wants something more.
This was a great story, although it doesn’t have a lot of drama, it does tell the story of how life can blindside you when you least expect it. I loved the twist with Paula’s daughter and what it would mean for the rest of the Connor brothers. Paula’s family were also hilarious, always getting into shenanigans, speaking their mind and being busy bodies, there was nothing that those women wouldn’t do.
Royal just snuck under Paula’s tightly controlled skin and wouldn’t let her go. Both of them together was hilarious and there were some laugh out loud moments when you’re reading the book. Of course, the rest of the family are there sharing their advice as normal and making the chaotic look calm.
I’ve really enjoyed this series, it deals with some hard topics, big emotions but shows the strength of family. If you like sweet reads, then this is one for you!
Ok, first of all WOOT! WOOT! I’m Michigan born and raised also. I am Wayne county too …or as we call it Down River. I have to admit that you got us pegged. We do all believe that Vernors is the cure for everything. I bet when they finally do find a cure cancer, Vernors will be somewhere in the mixture. Also, Faygo! Funny story, when I was a teenager I took a greyhound all the way from Detroit to some army base in Louisiana because my friend lived there with her husband and she decided to come back home to the D while he was deployed. First, since I rep my city like any true Michigander, I have a Detroit Tigers D tattooed on my neck. The further south I got on the greyhound, the more everyone acted like I was a criminal lol Me and my friend drove her car back here and when we stopped at a gas station somewhere in Kentucky that suspiciously looked like the same neighborhood as Texas Chainsaw Massacre, I asked the clerk if they had Rock n Rye Faygo pop. Dude looked every bit of the stereotypical hillbilly and not anything like the hot men in your books and he actually looked at me like I was the weird one lol found out later that Faygo was a Michigan thing and that people down south call pop soda. Also, is Brooklyn’s dad Killpatrick? Because that sounds like something he would do lol
OMG, this book...Paula's family is a riot. For the first time in a long time I actually had to stop reading for like 5 minutes because I was laughing (out loud). I would get myself under control, my eyes would go back to the page and I would loose it all again. This went on for quite a while, then I thought I was back to normal, turned the page and lost it again. The indignation that Brooklyn had about people coming over to dinner, it wasn't good for her that night.
I really liked how Royal was smitten with Paula from their chance encounter, loved it more that Paula egged on her family at the auction and how the date went. Royal was great with rolling with the punches with Paula's family, heck at the end he even enabled them in a big way, big brownie points there. I especially loved how Royal dealt with Brooklyn, loved how he explained the rules to her, when to follow them and when to break them. It played into things later a great deal and I loved that he 100% supported Brooklyn. Once Paula relaxed she seemed to love all the crazy that the Conner clan brought and fit in really well. The ending was great, loved seeing Brooklyn reaching great heights with all her family there to support her.
Royal is the fifth book in the Conner Brothers Construction series and part of the wider Rojo, TX universe that Cee Bowerman has created. This book tells Royal’s story as he meets Paula and her daughter Brooklyn and inserts himself into their lives after realising that Paula’s the one for him.
I really loved that this book bought some peace for a plot point that runs through the book. I thought it was a really lovely way to incorporate a new character and show the good that can sometimes come from a bad situation. I also loved how stubborn Royal was and how he just kept being persistent in winning Paula over. What I really loved was Paula’s mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. The antics made me laugh and I loved how devious they were.
Overall, this was a highly entertaining book that picked up a plot point from the previous book, Ronan, and ran with it in this book. I loved how everything turned out and I really enjoyed reading it. I would recommend giving it a read.
First, I admit I love Cee Bowerman books. If I've ever had any complaint on a book written by Cee, it's that her books aren't long ones. However, and this book is a prime example, her books are filled with great storylines with quirky characters, laughter and lots of emotions.
Now on to this book. I love the Connor family. You can relate to each story and each couple. The h's family is hilarious and are recognized as giving the h what she needs. The two scenes - when they figure out the previous connection the h's family had to the Conners and thre acceptance speech at the end were cry-worthy, they were that good.
I've near about decided Cee Bowerman could write a documentary or biography and I would love it.

Royal and Paula was a heartwarming story about overcoming losses and difficulties. Royal having had a couple of really really bad relationships decides to take a break from finding his forever but stepping in for his brother puts him in Paula's sphere of life. She quickly comes to mean so much to him, his dreams and hopes for tomorrow centered around Paula giving him the chance to prove he can fit into her busy life. He keeps going after her and her daughter despite their push back and eventually he wins them over along with all the eccentric members of their family. A great heart-tugging read especially when we find out the liver donor for Brooklyn was their sister Greer who died following a car accident. Very good sweet read.

It is amazing just how caught up I get when reading a book by this author, especially when it’s one of the Connor brothers. The story is so well developed and the characters so real. I have stayed up all night reading because I could not find a place where I wanted to stop. This has normal life and getting to know you romance issues. The older ladies are hilarious and if you don’t laugh out loud while reading, I will be very surprised. There is lots of love, laughter, and little bit of kick butt attitude when family is threatened. Wonderful epilogues. HEA, no cliffhangers. Thanks Cee Bowerman for these hours of reading pleasure.
Tears of laughter and tears of sadness and tears of joy! This book hit a lot of places that are really close to home for me. So so much laughter. Love Cee’s sense of humor in these books! My dad had a liver transplant and got to meet all of his grand kids because someone else gave that final gift. In the end he got to be a donor himself and give that gift to someone else(not the liver..they don’t do three-peats on that😂) I’ll be honest I broke down bad enough where I woke my husband up and he freaked out that I was crying on those parts. The tears of joy are easy. Those were everywhere I wasn’t laugh-crying or cry-crying.
I am a fan of the author. She always weaves a beautiful story with the Connor Brothers or the MC. This story is beautiful for Royal and Paula. These two are funny and has humor down. The author even gave us several epilogues. It was so nice of her to give us glances in the future. I wanted to see not that far in the future but around the new little Connors and if Paula had any multiple births. This story is emotional and touching. It’s a good addition to the series. If you are a fan of the handsome Connor Brothers, you will enjoy this book too. Read On!
I'm a fan of Cee Bowerman's books. She wrote some really awesome stories! My favourite is Kale, but this one is really, really close! All those Characters, I don't know how the Author comes up with them, but damn if they aren't good together. She even found the right balance for the main and sidecharacters. The fun, and there's a lot of it, is not over the top, like it is in some comedies,. Its a really awesome story and I could have rad about Royal, Paula, Brooklyn and the others a while longer. 5*****, more if I could!
The author Cee Bowerman writes with such finesse and humor that she immediately pulls you into the story and keeps you there until the end while laugh the whole way! I especially love her epilogues. Even with her books being part of a ongoing series she gives you enough of an HEA to satisfy my need to know what happens to the characters in years to come without giving away too much about books to come! I would recommend Cee Bowerman's books to anyone who likes to read🥰
I’ve been reading all three parallel series, though haven’t managed to always get the chronological order within the story correct. (Hint to Ms Bowerman - a suggested reading order would be a very welcome addition if you have a website or can put one out on Goodreads). This book had me literally holding my stomach from laughing, then tearing up a bit later on. This was, by far, my favorite book of Ms Bowermans to date, and I can’t wait to get the next one started.
This book was an absolute pleasure to read. Even though it wasn’t as big on drama as some of the previous Conner brothers stories, i enjoyed it more than some of the others. Paula, Brooklyn and the women in her their family had me laughing with their antics, sass and wit. They all fit into the Conner family with ease. I just love watching this family grow. The love they have for each other just resonates through the pages. Well done Cee, you smashed it out of the park again 😊
Every book from Cee is a 5 Star Read!! This book was yet another amazing look into a family I wish I knew! They are just so real and the author makes every character come alive. This is Royal and Paula's story. I laughed out loud MANY times ( one of the reasons I truly love this author!) and also cried. The emotions are so very real and if you have read any of these books, you know just what I'm talking about. Get your copy today!!
This book was a true gift. It just lifts your spirits and makes you smile. On personal note as I was reading this beautiful book I lost someone very special to me. The grandmas in this book made me smile and laugh and help me remember the crazy wonderful time with my loved one. This book made the loss easier to bear. It was gift of joy when I needed it the most.
Another great addition to the Conner family! This one is Royal's story and it's amazing. The storyline was brilliantly done. The LOL moments, the sex scenes were HOT!, and sarcasm at it's finest. Especially by a 7 year old lol! I think everyone should read this author's work whether it's her MC Series or her Conner Brother's series they are all amazing reads. I highly recommend this author. thanks jamie nibarger ellis
Love, love, love!!!! This was humour filled all the way through. I will admit, Paula wasn't my fave out of the girls in this series but she is still an absolute badass. It's purely a preference for me.
The shining star in this book is Brooklyn. She was an absolute joy to read & a complete show stealer.
I really appreciated the message behind this book and the heartfelt moments in between. In all, would definitely recommend this read. 10/10
Royal is book 5 in the already amazing Conner Brothers Construction series written by the talented author Cee Bowerman. This romance was the perfect combination of sexy and swoon with just the right amount of humor. Loved getting to know about Paula and Royal plus all the funny and outstanding second characters! Brooklyn is so smart and cute! Can’t wait to read more about this awesome family!! Thanks so much Mrs. Bowerman!
Paula is funny but her mother, grandmother and great grandmother are beyond funny...they're a little quirky. You find out why they're the way they are though. Royal has his work cut out for him trying to get Paula to believe his intentions. Paula's daughter Brooklyn is more mature than most 20 year olds and she's only little girl. Series continues to be entertaining to read.
Well, as always with this author, I adored this book. My love affair started at Finn, since I went all wonky and the first Cee Bowerman book I read was Finn. Not the Kings or Knights but the Conner’s. Royal and Paula’s first meeting was in the elevator at the hospital with little Brooklyn. Then she spots him again at the bachelor auction when he fills in for Ronan. It was a LOL moment when her Mymy, Granny, and her mom bidding. And his reaction to who ‘bought’ him. But I just loved little Brooklyn, she was feisty and hilarious. This book has so much heart. There is the secret that’s not really a secret and a wow moment that got me a bit emotional for various reasons. Paula’s crazy ass family and the Conner’s. I laughed, I cried, I enjoyed it immensely. This book so worth the buy. Loved this book.
I love visiting the Conner family with every book in this series. They are the best of what a family should be. They are always willing to help and stand up for others. Royal and Paula's story was so touching and her family had a lot to offer. The secondary characters blew me away and Brooklyn and Royal's interactions stole the book. I can't wait for the next in the series.
I can't say enough good things about the crazy, beautiful characters in this story. First, there's Paula who had some great one liners with Royal, then there's her wild and crazy mother, grandmother and great grandmother! And we cannot leave out Brooklyn! I love the connection of their angel - a beautiful way to connect things. Just can't say enough, love, love ,love this story!
I absolutely loved Royal and Paula! I laughed so much my stomach hurt, I also cried but for good reasons. Paula's family are hilarious and I want them added on to my own huge family. They have chemistry from the get go and their story is just breathtaking. Definitely recommend this book. 100% MUST READ!
