I read this with one of my classes. It's a class with 4-5 boys and they do really well listening to these type of books. I do prefer the I Survived series better as they seem to be a bit easier to understand and are definitely written for younger readers. The I Escaped series is based in facts as well so it does give some historical information. At the end of the book it gives other facts relating to the topic.
In this book Jon joins a merchant ship and it gets hijacked by Pirates. He is told he needs to join them or die. He figures he must join them in order to escape. This book takes you on his journey and how he Escaped the Pirates of the Caribbean.

Kept me at the edge of my seat

This book is filled with adventure and kept me engaged and at the end of my seat the entire time reading. What started as a situation where two kids are in over their heads due to the ship they were in being attacked and taken over by pirates leads to one dreadful adventure after the other and ends with them escaping and taking control of the situation. They are shown as true leaders and makers of their own destiny at the end.

This is a great book for teen-aged kids.

Adventure and mischief

This is a well written book that I'd filled the the rich culture of the Caribbean. Young readers will love an adventure on the sea and island of Jamaica. Pirates and trouble, gold, and mischief all can be found between these pages My
favourite characters are Blackbeard Bill, Captain Morgan.
I loved the short bio about some of the real life characters from the book.
The small black and white illustrations compliments the story beautifully.

There aren’t many swashbuckling stories out there of sea life. Even though this one is a middle grade book,, it was a fun read. I’ve read three middle grade books in a row now, so I think I am ready for a more adult story.

A frightening ordeal on a pirate ship. Jon must learn to survive with a girl by his side. He just couldn’t leave her behind no matter how much bad luck they may be. That Fortune may be a girl, but she can sure handle herself. A great pirate adventure! A nice read!

It is so funny because it has a lot of fat people in it. And it is very energetic. My favorite part is when they ran for their life’s.

***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Rating: 4.8 stars

I have never been so excited to receive a book than when I received this one. Pirates have always been a source of joy, and knowing that there was a book like this in the world, I knew I had to have it.
When thinking of how to describe why I love this book, my mind keeps going back to the quick pace and action-packed plot. While I was at first confused as to why it was only 160 pages long, I now know that it was the perfect length for this story. Every sentence has a purpose. Every event perfectly leads the reader and characters to the end. There was never a time that I got bored.
If you need a fun, quick-paced book to help you get out of your reading slump (no matter how severe it is), I highly recommend this book.
Thank you Ellie Crow and Scott Peters for creating this story. I will forever remember the fun times I’ve had reading it.
