A mysterious collection of books, estate sale discoveries, and growing family drama ...
Fourth in the Belle Harbor Cozy Mystery series!
Relations between Tilly, Uncle Jack and the antique shop's bookstore neighbor were finally moving the right direction. That is, until a surprise addition arrives in town, putting them all in an awkward situation. As Tilly tries to unravel the new dynamic, matters are complicated by the death of the local veterinarian's assistant.
With no time to spare for being the peacemaker, Tilly is on the hunt for a new location for her growing bakery business. Her recent inclusion of catering to her services sends her on the search for an assistant. No sooner does she find the perfect match, than the suspect list for the murder takes a turn for the worse.
As the cast of characters quickly grows to include several animals, Tilly wonders who among the barnyard culprits could have committed the dastardly deed. Can she solve the murder before it's too late? Or will the chickens finally come home to roost?
Sugar Cookies and Scandal is Book 4 in the Belle Harbor Cozy Mystery series. A light, cozy mystery in a quaint beach town with a fun loving, amateur female sleuth, her quirky uncle, and enough antiques and pastries to fill your home and your belly. No gore, swearing or cliffhangers. Can be read as a standalone.
Sue Hollowell is a wife and empty nester with a lot of mom left over. Finding a lot of time on her hands, and as a lover of mystery novels, she began telling the story of a character who appeared in her head.
The Chemical Bond is a book about Meredith Markette, a young woman who reluctantly enters into the field of law enforcement when her police officer father is killed in the line of duty. Her quest is to discover his murderer and in the meantime come to terms with a tragedy of her youth.
Will this book ever see the light of day? Maybe. Sue really likes the story and character. And writing that book taught her a ton about the publishing industry. Through this experience she has discovered a love of writing stories, and especially mysteries. She hopes you enjoy her books as much as she enjoys writing them.
She and her husband are on the search to adopt a dog, really missing her spaniels that passed a couple of years ago.
I just had to go visit Belle Harbor again since I really missed reading about Tilly and her Unkie, and who could forget Uncle Jack's good buddy Barney the police chief who's now crazy about the usually-grumpy bookstore owner, Florence. And boy ole Florence really had a reason to be grumpy this time when her precious Gwinnie had four kittens that looked like a cat Florence couldn't stand but obviously Gwinnie liked him, LOL!
Meanwhile, another murder struck so while trying to solve that, Tilly was also trying to figure out how to find Florence's soft spot to where she'd at least be civil to her and Unkie. I liked the addition of Jack's new friend Linda a lot! I think she might be a great addition to the baking team. I wasn't quite sure whodunit, but that showdown was epic! Let's just say a dog walker, her pack of six dogs and a baker can definitely wreak some havoc on killer! Go dogs! They were amazing! I borrowed the next book right away with KU since the ending of these books teases just a little of what's gonna happen in the next book. I love how these books are short enough to fit into little bits of time here and there but still have a good mystery.
Well I am in a reading slump and this didn't help at all. It had short chapters but I am still not clear why the murder happened. That's because they didn't bother to clear it up. I like small town cozy mysteries but sometimes the motives are laughable.
It's fun and quick but also ridiculous. The only customer mentioned ever is Mocha Joe yet she needs to hire help and expand. So one must assume she has other clients...? I have trouble with her business and her so called sleuthing. The animals were a final straw and I just can't seem to get into these anymore. I'm calling it quits here with the series.
Another Wonderful, Fun, Exciting Cozy Mystery in a quaint beach town of Belle Harbor!!!
Sugar Cookies and Scandal is Book 4 in the Belle Harbor Cozy Mystery series but it can be read as a standalone.
I really enjoy this book, it's hard to put down, it's a fast-paced story line that keeps you entertained as you try to figure out what would happen next.
Tilly Griffin's bakery business is growing and she is so busy that she is looking for a new location for her business and hiring an assistant. Florence's cat, Gwennie, is having her kittens and Justin is stressed out that his cat, Willie, might be the daddy, Florence will never forgive him if the kittens look like Willie. The vet is running very late, Barney is also there trying to comfort Florence. There is a scream, Barney goes to investigate, the vet arrives, the kittens are born, Barney find that the vet’s assistant is strangled to death. Tilly's hands are full with her own bakery business and helping Uncle Jack set up an estate sale but she will need to solve this murder before it's too late.
This is a fun and light heart cozy mystery that was well-written with likable characters. I would recommend this book to any cozy mystery fan who likes good mystery full of cute pets and pastries. It is very entertaining and I am looking forward to read the next books in the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Florence's cat Gwennie is having her kittens and Florence has her at the vets but the vet is running late. Tilly and Justin are there as well and are waiting on Barney to arrive. Gwennie goes into hard labor and just as the receptionist takes them back to the exam room to make a bed for Gwennie, there is a scream. Dr. Lester arrives and the kittens are born. They all look like Willie, Justin's cat. Barney is the sheriff and he tells them that Nicole, the vet assistant has been strangled. Everyone returns to their jobs and Tilly leaves to help Uncle Jack set up an estate sale. Linda has decided to sell her house and get something smaller. While they are there, Linda's niece Jenna arrives. She is a dog walker and had been walking some of the vets patients until Nicole stopped using her. Tilly's egg man, Rocco, says his hens have stopped laying and he can't keep them fenced in, so no more eggs. Tilly begins looking at the clues to the strangling and finds out that a dog leash was the murder weapon. This leads to several suspects. Can Barney and Tilly find the killer before someone else is killed?
I am voluntarily reviewing this book after receiving it free from the author.
Tilly accompanies her shop-neighbor, Florence, to the vet's office when Florence's cat is about to give birth. There, they learn the vet's assistant, Nicole, was murdered. As Tilly encounters people who knew Nicole, she tries to figure out who may have killed the woman. In the meantime, Tilly's Uncle Jack has taken on an estate sale, and the woman he's helping, Linda, is a novice baker. Tilly hires her on as an assistant with one eye on a potential budding romance between Linda and Jack. There's one other mystery puzzling Tilly: why aren't her neighbor's hens laying eggs any more?
This was less of a mystery and more of an update on Tilly's life. She didn't investigate so much as speculate, but that was kind of refreshing. I also appreciated that Tilly didn't find the murder victim. Characterizations were mediocre, and the plot was not terribly cohesive.
Things are moving along in Belle Harbor: - Bakery is doing well that Tilly wants to hire an assistant; - She meets Linda when she helps Uncle Jack inventory Linda’s belongings for sale; - Gwinnie, Florence’s cat, is having kittens and there is a delay in seeing the vet; - Rocco’s chickens are roaming all around; what is causing their stress? While at the vets, they hear a scream and Barney goes to investigates. Unfortunately, he comes across a dead body. Join Tilly as she examines the clues to identify the murderer. This was a delight to read. It was well-written and the characters are captivating. The setting of the town seems like an enjoyable place. The camaraderie and the love between Tilly and Uncle Jack is outstanding. I look forward to the next book in the series.
I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Sugar Cookies and Scandal is Book 4 in the Belle Harbor Series. Sue Hollowell always writes outstanding books and I really enjoyed this story. The book opens with Tilly, Florence and her cat, Gwinnie at the vets office. Florence is in a twitch about her cat having kittens and the possibility that Justin’s cat, Willie, might be the father. I laughed so hard at the book ‘s opening. Gwinnie did give birth to four kittens that looked just like Willie! But, not before the vet discovered a murdered assistant. Sue Hollowell is at her best weaving the story and keeping me reading as fast as possible. Tolly’s family want to visit and Tilly is not sure she wants them to come. Kittens, murder and family drama sure makes for a wonderful book. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
Tilly hires a new assistant, Florence is blessed with kittens but isn't happy about who the father of the kittens is, and Uncle Jack makes a new friend. While they are at the vet's office while the kittens are being born, Barney is there to investigate a murder. Tilly suddenly finds her with a lot of decisions to make so spends time thinking about them and making decisions about what is best for her. Afterwards, Tilly is able to focus on figuring out who murdered the vet tech. The pieces finally come together and Barney makes an arrest. There are some funny moments while Tilly is cornering the murderer, and some of the chickens gravitate towards babysitting some of the kittens. I received a free copy of the book and this is my honest review.
This is a really enjoyable series and I am so blessed to be on the ARC team! Tilly’s business is doing so well that she decides to hire a part-time assistant. The latest furor is that Florence’s cat Gwinnie is pregnant, probably by her friend Willie, Justin’s cat. The vet helps with the delivery, but what is Florence going to do with 4 kittens, all the spitting image of Willie? When the vet’s assistant is found strangled with a clinic leash, Barney and friends start investigating! A pretty fast read, with great characters and a plot that definitely has it’s funny side! As usual, I’m delighted to worthies review for a book I thoroughly enjoyed!
While at the veterinarian’s office because Gwinnie, Florence’s cat, is having kittens, they hear a scream when Dr. Lester finds a body. Barney says that Nicole, the vet assistant, has been strangled with a dog leash as the murder weapon. Join Tilly as she helps Barney examine the clues to identify the murderer. We also discover the sneaky kitty who is responsible for Gwinnie’s kitten situation!
This is a fast read with fun characters and, believe it or not, lots of humor. Grab your copy and see if you can figure out who the murderer is! And maybe get a few side bets going on the identity of “papa cat”.
What should have been a wonderful time turns tragic when a dead body is discovered. Between growing her baking business, hiring an assistant and investigating, Tilly is kept on her toes. I absolutely love the relationship between Tilly and her Uncle Jack as well as her friendship with local bar owner, Fiona. The characters and wandering chickens in Belle Harbor will keep you laughing and the ending will most definitely surprise you because it did me. I highly recommend this wonderful series. Happy Reading!

She has found her assistant strangled with a leash from the practice. Tilly puts on her sleuthing cap to find the culprit. Uncle Jack is running an estate sale with Tilly helping Could the client be a companion for uncle Jack and a bakery assistant for Tilly?. If you haven't jumped into this series you should .You'll meet well developed likeable characters.and intriguing mysteries that keep you guessing I recived an ARC from the author
What a fun cozy mystery! This was a quick read and I enjoyed every page. The coastal town of Belle Harbor is home to baker and amateur sleuth Tilly. She shared space in her Uncle Jack’s antique shop. Unki was my favorite character. When vet tech Nicole is murdered Tilly uses her detective skills to flush out the culprit. There are lots of colorful characters in the book with distinctive personalities. If you love animals this is the perfect story with cats, dogs and chickens. It was pretty straight forward to figure out whodunnit. You didn’t have to chase any red herrings. Highly recommended for a quick cozy escape.
Tilly and Uncle Jack share a building. Tilly for baking and Uncle Jack to run his antique store. Tilly is at the vet's office due to Florance's 'emergency' with her cat. While there, they hear a scream and are not sure why until they are told that the vet's assistant Nicole was murdered. Tilly tries to 'soften' up Florance throughout the book and Uncle Jack has seemed to find a new girlfriend while at work. Can all this be sorted out? I enjoyed this story very much. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Tilly is working around the clock and still adding to her to-do list. Baking, catering, helping Uncle Jack, looking into the vet assistants murder, working with new kittens and more. The characters in the town are quirky and fun. The storyline is going a million miles an hour as well as dealing with a murder. Surprises and twists abound and the sleuthing is addictive with this group. Loved the animals, especially the wandering hens. Well done. Can not wait to read more of this group in action.

Lots of changes in Belle Harbor. Gwinnie is having her kittens, Tilly is expanding her business and possibly hiring an assistant, and Rocco is having more trouble than usual with his hens . Amidst all this, Nicole, the vet assistant, is found murdered. Life in Belle is anything but dull. I enjoy the characters and the storyline. I especially liked the scene involving the hens and the dogs, but you need to read it to find out why. This is a clean cozy series that will keep you coming back for more. I received an ARC copy of this book and this is my freely given and honest review
In the fourth book of the elle Harbor Mystery series Tilly, the main character finds more and more success as a baker. But a new-comer to town and the murder of the veterinary assistant bring excitement and stress into the little town. Like the books before the cozy mystery thrives because of its eccentric characters, small town flair and a decent plot. The book is well-written, has a good mixture of all ingredients necessary to be entertaining and a rela.ing read I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Another great read in this series! Even more great developments of our cast of characters throughout the town. The plot twists were simple and solid along easily but yet were still unexpected. Great quick little read or listen. Happy to say this one played and followed along with the highlighted text for kindle assisted reader and kindle prime reading and audible perfectly . Much better than book 3 which repeated every single chapter halfway through it and needs more work. Highly recommend this read!
A well written cozy mystery that holds your attention and keeps you turning the pages. The characters are fun, engaging and delightful to get to know. A story with well developed characters and furry, four legged characters is a story you can't help but enjoy. It's well written with the right amount of suspense, mystery and intrigue.

This book is a short cozy mystery, so I will make my review short.
Tilly has an upstart bakery inside her uncle's shop in Belle Harbor, which is getting ready to expand. So, all is good in their world until the Vet's assistant is murdered when Tilly's friend's cat is having kittens at the Veterinarian.
The sheriff is doing the investigation, and Tilly walks into the fray. A dog and chicken uprising leads to the killer of the Veterinarian's assistant arrest—end of the story.
The story is cute, and the characters are fun. It is an enjoyable quick read.
Sugar Cookies and Scandal (A Belle Harbor Cozy Mystery Book 4), my ninteenth enjoyable short (80 page) read from author Sue Hollowell that I finished in under 90-minutes. “I received a free Kindle copy of this book am reading it & voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. I look forward to reading more from this author with Tiramisu and Turmoil (A Belle Harbor Cozy Mystery Book 5) next on my TBR list. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018.
A delightful and charming clean cozey murder mystery with vibrant characters fur babies and feathered friends. OH YES!and more than one mystery to figure out and as well as a family drama decision to make. All this well written with pin nash and humor mixed in to entertain you. Acquire "Sugar Cookies and Scandal " so you yourself can enjoy it as much as I have. 😏Kat
Once again an enjoyable read. The book opens at the vets because Florence’s cat is having her kittens! When the vet arrives she discovers a dead body. Mayhem, naturally. Tilly’s uncle Jack is doing an estate sale & the owner, Linda, is a good baker & so Tilly has found her assistant. How the murderer is discovered is hilarious.
I'm starting to fall in love with this series. Hollowell writes well, her mysteries are cleverly crafted without being too convoluted and she's establishing all the side characters as the series progresses so it seems like a real community. Available on Kindle Unlimited and just a super fun read, highly recommended if you enjoy cozies.
Wonderful whodunit with lots of twist and turns and some drama thrown in. Interesting and entertaining characters. Witty and quirky story that will keep you from the first page reading until the end. Good read.

Tilly is at the vet with her neighbor whose cat is about to have kittens. While there the vet assistant is found murdered in the backroom Tilly also hears that her parents want to come and visit for the first time since #he left Boston. Tilly and friends solve the murder with a surprise ending. A fun read.
Another good read with a little mystery, comedy and romance all mixed in. Tilly is taking on an assistant who her Unkie kind of likes and the baking business is expanding and the vet assistant was murdered. To add to the confusion and intrigue her parents want to come for a visit oh what fun. Thanks for the enjoyable reading
