When danger starts to lurk, even the most bitter rivals can become allies...
Elisa – I just wanted an ordinary life, but I had to be born as a daughter of the Don of one of the most powerful families in New York. I went to school to become a nurse, but now my father is giving me away to my family’s greatest enemy in order to seal a truce. John Colombo may have my hand in marriage, so he might even be seen as owning my body, but he’ll never hold my heart.
John – I will do anything for my family, even if it means marrying the daughter of our enemy. Honor, pride, duty... these are words I understand, and love is not one of them. I have one rule – to never lose control – but there is something about this feisty mafia princess that’s making me go off the deep end.
Kelsey Dawson is a best-selling author of Contemporary Romance and New Adult novels. She writes strong, sexy, alpha male stories in a variety of sizzling flavors - enemies to lovers, bad boys, mafia romance, billionaires. They'll make you sigh, swoon, and fall in love.
Born and raised in New York City, she still lives there today with her husband, their daughter, and their Pomeranian, Romeo. In her free time, Kelsey enjoys reading, working out at the gym, salsa dancing with her indulgent husband, and taking nature walks. She's also dedicated to doing her part to save the Earth and can be seen cleaning up litter on her walks.
Debut novel and a mafia romance so I was down. I'm a mafia whore and love finding new authors so this was a win win.
This story follows John and Elisa who are from rival families but come together to form an allegiance and make the families stronger to take out an enemy.
It was well written and a good amount of "mafia" was through the story. It has some twists and good steam and was fast paced so you're kept interested. The side characters gain your interest so you'll want to continue with the series when book 2 is available.
So this is a debut novel and ngl it's a good one too. I like how John and Elisa have been characterized, I just wished for more angst they're dynamics come out a bit of insta lovey, at least that's what I perceived as I was reading the book.
As for the plot, since this is a mafia book, I wished to see more of the darker stuff and gritty scenes, tho those aspects are presented I needed more.
When it comes to the writing style it is more on the heavy side of the telling than showing, I always notice this kind of narrative structure primarily in the mafia realm, very descriptive. I rarely read books that counterbalance the mafia and romance within the storyline, it's always greater than the other.
Anyway, with that having said, the book is still a good read for me, I can forgive the descriptive POV since this is a debut, and to be honest, the author showcased a very great potential towards her future works. Kelsey Dawson can write as well great sexual tension and steamy scenes so well.
This book is fantastic! If you enjoy shocking drama, unexpected twists to the very end, unintended romance and tawdry love scenes, this series is for you! Once I started the story I could not put it down, and have read it several times since. I am definitely looking forward to the rest of the series.
**some possible spoilers**
Meet John. Underboss of the formidable Colombo family. Thrust into the training to become leader of the family too soon, as his parents died when he was a child. The epitome of Tall, Dark and Handsome.
Meet Elisa. Daughter of the Don of the Gambino Family. Wants nothing to do with that life, but will do almost anything to make her father happy, after they lost her mother when she was a young girl. She is a nurse and loves helping people. Beautiful inside and out.
The two are thrown together in an attempt at making a bond to unite their families, much to their equal chagrin. Both equally hating the other, yet inexplicably drawn to one another, in every way imaginable. Their attraction becomes too hard to ignore and they slowly learn to come together in their lives, as well as their bed.
Then, Elisa is taken.
I won't spoil the rest of the book for you, but let me tell you, it is worth the read.
This was my first mafia/arranged marriage book. The book follows John and Elisa who are both from families who are each other’s number one enemies. I loved the “sunshine girl gets with boy who has no feelings” aspect because throughout the book you do see him uncover emotions that he didn’t know he could feel. Elisa was a very strong female character and I loved how passionate and persistent she was about pursuing her dreams. While they are trying to understand their feelings in a confusing marriage, some events happen throughout that make you question what is happening. It’s like a mystery that you’re trying to solve! I enjoyed the action, the evolving romance between the two characters, and the meaning of family spoken throughout the book. While I wasn’t as attached to the characters as I would’ve liked to have been, I did enjoy this read! I recommend this for a quick, fast paced read filled with angst and action! I’m interested to read book 2! (This is available on Kindle Unlimited or purchase the paperback on Amazon)
This is my first mafia romance and I really enjoyed it!
The daughter of the Gambino's and the eldest of the Colombo's are to be married to help with the alliance between the two families and their rule over the city. Also to show a united front against a new family that's rising under their noses. Safe to say they hate each other, they're enemies, but they can't deny the attraction they feel towards one another.
I really liked it. I loved the chemistry between the main characters. They were so in tune even though they tried to deny it every step of the way, to their own mind and to the other person. I liked how independent and realistic is Elisa. She didn't want to be a part of the family business but married the enemy so her family could be protected. I loved how they took their time to open up to each other, the physical aspect was always there but the emotional side took time.
It was predictable, I knew the grand reveal. What I didn't like, and this is in every book, is the miscommunication. A lot of problems were caused by it. They didn't talked to each other, they didn't try to understand anything, just until the problem happened. She was also very stubborn, even when her safety was concerned. I was annoyed at a lot of the not talking to the other person of feelings, problems, misunderstandings, anything. Also sometimes the descriptions and the internal monologues were very long for me.
But overall, it was very good. I really enjoyed it and I read it very fast. I loved John. He was the best. He was the one who tried to understand his wife in any situation.
I’m so tempted to DNF this book like how did people like this?
First of all: it’s sooooooooooooooooo much inner thought with in comparing to ACTUAL dialogue. It’s insane. You have to read 6 pages worth of inner thoughts (like really inner thoughts, them explaining a room, them saying work related stuff in their head) before a actual conversation is happening. And when there is a conversation it’s literally not over 10 sentences. I’m at page 170 but I’m so tempted to not finish.
Second of all: I don’t really like Elisa, sure she was strong when she got the news and made her own demands but when the actual wedding happens she is completely losing shit about a picture. Like when John said he didn’t know about it and it was taking out of context she was supposed to believe her ‘husband’ because she REALLYY wants to make their vows true.
Sorry for the author but I had such high hopes for this book and I just can’t get threw it.
Two warring families united by an underlying sense of vengeance towards a third, makes for an interesting love/hate passion between ardent lovers. If you're looking for the type of sizzling romance that'll make your hairs stand on end, this is the one for you.
John Colombo battles his inner demons while learning to love a stunning woman with every fiber of his being. However, Elisa is no novice and far from innocent. She is strong-willed, independent and gorgeous. Betrayal and intrigue surround the couple as they learn to tolerate one another, but also dive together in the throes of love.
This is an incredible, fast-paced novel that can be easily read in a day! If you're anything like me, it'll take a bit longer if you like to take your time enjoying every little detail of a good high-wired romance.

Get a sneakpeek at the mafia world in which John grew up … As the underboss of the family, the coldhearted John sees his life changed by an unexpected union. War between powerful families, passionate sex, smell of leather and whisky, this new romance book will give you the impression to be part of New-York mafia. The description of the characters, the backgrounds and the settings give the reader no time to adapt as the action starts right from the beginning. This is a well-constructed story. I loved getting angry at the characters because of their actions and I loved reading about their romance. A very good first book by the author – I had not read new romance for a long time and it was a real pleasure.
Bound by honor.... A mafia trope story which is my favourite. With Alpha Male, enemies to lovers and arranged marriage thrown in aswell i thoroughly enjoyed it.
Meet Elisa who gets into a arranged marriage with John (underboss) to the bring their families together for more power.
Unknown forces strive to ruin everything. Full of Angst between the pair that left my speeding reading the book to see what would happen between the pair. Action packed, secrets and twists - addictive.
I love mafia stories and i loved this and cant wait to read Darios book next.
One City, 2 mafia families, and a truce... sort of. But, things are changing. John Colombo, the underboss is has been groomed most of his life to take over the family business for his uncle, The Don. Elisa Gambino, mafia princess, wants nothing to do with the lifestyle. She has steered clear of it as much as possible but is now being asked to make the ultimate sacrifice for her family. With their city on the brink of war; the honor, loyalty, and respect of their ways are pushed to the limits as John and Elisa are blindsided by family demands. Hooked right from the start, I knew the moment I met John he would be a force to be reckoned with. He was broody, serious, and meticulous, and let’s face it... smoking hot! Being denied and a lack of control were not things he was accustomed to. The beautiful and feisty mafia princess Elisa tested his desires, patience, and control at every turn. Can you say chemistry? Lord have mercy they were combustible together! This intense and fast-paced story was filled with twists and turns, romance, betrayal, loyalty, and duty. All of which came together in a battle of not only territory but of hearts as well. I couldn’t put down this fantastically addictive page-turner. I can’t wait to see what happens in the second book! Sara is the perfect girl to bring Dario Colombo to his knees!
This book was an easy read and I didn’t want to put it down! The chemistry between Elisa and John was very hot and they really had to work on loving each other. The side characters are interesting and I can’t wait to read more about Dario! This is definitely worth a read!
The chemistry!!! Oh my God!!! The mafia aspect was so good!! I know I'm using alot of exclamation it's just that I'm too excited. John was such a good person. I thought he'd be the typical mafia guy who is bad to his wife and later she changes him and stuff. Thank God it wasn't like that. And I was so happy when he was loyal and even fight back for her when she wanted to become a nurse. Elisa was a strong lead. Loved absolutely loved her character.. Even at the end she was so strong and their chemistry was the best.
Coming to the side charcters. Sara!!! I love her character the most. I can't wait to read about her on the next one which I've already started😬 Dario was intriguing too. A good debut novel. Loved it❤❤
Found another new to me author; another new to me mafia romance. And it absolutely pulled me in from the start. I eagerly read until the end and was happy to know the 2nd book was already out. Yay to not having to wait before I see what happens with Sara and Dario.
But let’s chat about John and Elisa. Both are head strong and love their family fiercely. Both know the loss of a parent. Both have this wicked connection to the other and it’s apparent from their first meet up in a dark alley. And let me tell you, I was all over them. I adored every ounce of them. Totally smitten. They unearthed some major feelings from one another and completely stole my heart.
Beautiful, heart wrenching and captivating, BOUND BY HONOR was every bit my kind of read. It even surprised me that I had the outcome all wrong. So well done, Dawson. I live getting proved wrong. Cannot wait to read the next one soon. 5 Stars!
I was expecting dark and gritty and it turns out that our hero is a big cinnamon roll who just happens to love black clothes. I wasn’t mad about it but goodness folks. Just talk to each other!!
I received an ARC of this book and it didn’t affect my rating. Thank you Kelsey Dawson!
Bound by Honor is an arranged marriage mafia romance and book #1 in Born in Crime series. And it's also Kelsey Dawson debut novel. It's dual POV, you'll read from the main characters perspectives: John and Elisa. I loved how Kelsey Dawson created this setting! I'm major fan of mafia romances! The tension between the main characters is amazing. A perfect read for "enemies to lovers fans". Even though they don't like the circumstances they are in, there's an undeniable chemistry between them. John avoids showing any of his true emotions. But there is one person who gets under his skin, Elisa. Elisa wants to alienate herself from her family's mafia lifestyle; she has dreams that she wants to pursue. Elisa slowly begins to break down John's defences. For most of his life, John had one thing on his mind, vengeance. However, when he spends more time with Elisa, he begins to experience a sudden onslaught of unexpected emotions. Emotions he thought that he would never experience again. I really enjoyed how the plot unfolded. I absolutely loved the ending!
At first John and Elisa didn't really get on the right foot. However, there were scenes, where Elisa and John started to get along with each other; a mutual understanding began to form. And then, all of sudden, something would occur prompting John and Elisa to be in a heated argument with each other. It was like one step forward, and two steps back. But, once they cooled off and had a chance to talk, everything went back on track. Sometimes, there were scenes, that annoyed me especially with Elisa's actions that did frustrate me. And yes, there were also very steamy scenes. Overall, if you love reading crime/mafia romances then this read should be right up your alley. Looking forward to reading Dario and Sara's book!
John and Elisa come from two different mafia families. Two rival families who have been enemies for so long. Finally, the head of these families have come to an agreement; they want to have a concrete truce; to form a union between two families. John and Elisa are going to be a bridge between two families, by marrying each other. Neither of them wants this marriage, yet they will do anything for their families, to avoid bloodshed at all costs.
**I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review
Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Get ready to fall in love with the story of underboss and fiesty mafia princess. This is hate to love, arranged marriage Mafia Romance. (I am huge fan of them).
As for the debut novel, author just nailed it. This is my first book by her and I totally loved it.
There are so many things I particularly loved about the book. This is book 1 in Born in crime series.
𝑷𝒍𝒐𝒕 𝑺𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒚: In order to seal a truce between families, John Colombo and Elisa Gambino have to get married. It's a hate to love Arranged Marriage, mafia Romance. There is so much to the story. And along the way you fall in love with them when they are falling in love with each other.
𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔: Elisa is strong, fiesty, beautiful, stubborn, good- hearted, innocent, and she never bows down to anyone.
John is next in line to become underboss, he is hot and handsome, cold, but good hearted...you will just fall in love with him. Story grips you , and will keep you on the edge of your seat from Beginning to end.
I loved Elisa's character really very much. Like all other heroine in mafia books, she isn't very vulnerable. She stand up for herself and her loved ones. I loved side characters as well.
3 things I found different and absolutely loved are:
1. In most books we read that the parents of the lead characters aren't in love but in this book they were so much in love.
2. In mafia families, daughters are just that daughters. In other books I have read it's been shown that they aren't loved by their fathers, but in this book you will see that beautiful bond between Elisa and her father, and how much they care about each other.
3. And, I loved how Elisa stood up for herself and her career and John supported her.
4. Relationship between John and his family and Elisa and her family was beautiful.
Altogether I loved and just totally loved the book 💕.
Wow! Not what I was expecting. Yet very addictive.
John is second in charge of the Colombo mafia. Son of the previous don, his uncle has been training him to take over since his father passed. He is a dark soul. Tall, dark, handsome, ice blue eyes...yep he is dangerous. In more ways than one. He takes his job seriously and is feared by those who come against him. He will do what it takes to protect his family. Including marriage. Marriage he does not want.
Elisa has tried to live her life separate from her father’s business. She even went so far to get her nursing degree. Being the daughter of the don in the Gambino mafia doesn’t always let her do that. So imagine her surprise when her father arranges a marriage to another. All in the name of peace and unity. Now “Bound by Honor” of her father, she must marry.
This book was a well written mafia read. I generally don’t care for the mafia romance because most have the same story lines, but this one was different. It had a great twisted ending. It was a steady paced story throughout. Not rushed in any way.
This book has lots of danger and action. The characters are well written and defined, with great personable backgrounds. Living complex lives yet in all reality learning to love. The main characters have explosive chemistry. They burn up the pages.
This book is the first in the series and has setup book two perfectly. It does not have a cliffhanger ending. So no worries there.
If you love hot as sin mafia romance, then this book should be on your top ten need to read lists. So pick up your copy today.
Two rival families brought together by marriage in order to beat their common enemy. John Colombo a mafia under-boss who still has unanswered questions about his parents’ death and still blames it on the Gambino family. His bitterness is still directed towards getting to the bottom of their death until he has to marry the enemy’s daughter for the sake of the family. The mafia Princess chips away at his heart and he finds himself craving her company but mostly her body more than he likes. Elisa Gambino the Mafia Princess who has been sheltered and loved by her family has to deal with the grumpy and moody John Colombo. The man from the family she was taught was their rival. Her brain is telling her to keep away from the ever mood changing John but her body and heart however have a very different opinion. As they begin their journey as a couple, through threats to both their lives and families, to discovering betrayals this book will keep you on the edge of our seat. You will love and hate John and love and envy Elisa as his wife. If you are looking for a steamy romance that will give you a whirlwind of emotions this is the book for you. This is my first book by this author and I cannot wait to read more.
Happy Reading…

This was a great book and a really good read. It is an easy read that keeps you glued to the book and turning the page to see what happens next. I never expected to care so much about two families with a dark background. Some of the twists and turns in the book was completely unexpected and keeps you entertained and turning the page. The characters are great. They give a great contrast between light and dark. Neither of them sees the grey area. Both have very fixed beliefs. John is completely dark. He believes in the families and he believes in honor. He doesn’t believe in love or that anything in his life could touch the light. As he says early on: “I’d learned to hate my enemies a long time ago, but I’d never learned to love.” Elisa on the other hand is complete light. She comes from a world of darkness but she has completely rejected it and wants to help people. She loves her family but hates what they do. Together they grow and help each other see things differently. We fall in love with them while they fall in love with each other. It is a really great book and I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Oh My!! Prepare your heart because you will fall in love with John Colombo the broody, protective, and uber sexy underboss, and Elisa Gambino the innocent, sweet and yet feisty mafia princess . To cement a truce and later an alliance between two Mafia families John and Elisa are forced to marry. Both have grown up in the underworld and have experienced heartbreaking loss from the hands of their enemies. While John the future don of a mafia family is heavily involved in the underworld and weighed down with responsibilities, Elisa wants nothing to do with the lifestyle. John and Elisa may not want an arranged marriage but oh boy their chemistry is Kindle melting hot, and their fast-paced and action filled journey to a HEA had me captivated and devouring every word in one sitting. It was riddled with betrayal, suspense, steam, lust, chemistry, humour, swoon-worthy moments, and twists and turns that will have you on the edge of your seat and gasping in shock and surprise. John may have never learned to love but he simply hadn't met Elisa, the one woman who can bring light into his darkened world. I absolutely loved them both and their story that left me with a warmed heart and beyond excited for Book 2, Sara and Dario's story.
Finished this book last night and I loved it! I love a mafia romance and this did not disappoint. The characters were really likable and well written. The story was interesting with loads of twists and turns that kept you wanting to read on.
John Colombo was just drool worthy! I adored him. The way he was such a strong alpha male but became completely soft when it came to Elisa was just dreamy. I loved watching their relationship flourish and growing. Their chemistry was just undeniable!
I also loved Elisa, born into a world she didn't want to be part of she made the best of the situation but also stayed true to herself and her family at the same time. She was a really strong, loving character.
I really really enjoyed this book and can't believe it was a debut! It was so well written and I can't wait to read anything else Kelsey brings out!
I thoroughly enjoyed the way Kelsey has weaved this story concocted with every human emotion, drama, violence & what not which goes on in any mafia family. While the story theme is not unusual & of course end result is predictable but you will enjoy the emotional journey of the protagonists John & Elisa.
They both were born in Mafia families & suffered their own share of loss & grief in the past. Despite getting married to each other & sharing a sizzling chemistry they both were not ready to accept that they have developed an emotional bonding also. While John was broody & stoic, Elisa was a ray of light in his life. They both cared for each other since first day of their marriage but too reluctant to express & even acknowledge.
There are quick turns & twists of events in the story which made them realise they cannot stand up to the day if one of them is not there. It’s when they accepted each other in real sense & started their life all over again.
I loved how John and Elisa first met not knowing that they were from rival families. They liked each other then, but throw in a surprise arranged marriage between said families and all bets were off. This book had many twists in it that raised suspicions as to who the rat was in the family and which family, but by the time he is revealed it isn't a big surprise.
The story was well written with several very steamy scenes in it, however there were some basic grammar mistakes that made you reread a sentence just to make sure you read it correctly.
Two Mafia families both have an enemy in common so what do they do make a marriage proposition. It would tie the two families together and make them stronger to deal with their combined enemy. Enemy of my enemy is my friend kind of story. The couple are very adamant at first that they don’t want to marry each other even though the sparks off this couple could singe the hair on your arm. They eventually agree and become wed. They have a sexual attraction for one another and their relationship grows from that. It was a pretty quick read and it had drama, murder plots, betrayal and eventually love. Just what a good enemies to lovers book needs.
A wonderful mafia story with awesome characters! You fall in love with the characters while they fall in love with each other. It is a fun read and very entertaining. The growth that John and Elisa both shows in the book is a wonderful journey that readers will be grateful to be a part of. It was very easy to start caring about them and I couldn’t put the book down before I finished it. I can’t wait for the next book in the series and to see how the journey continues for other characters I now know and love.
