The Age of Miracles is an insightful book about the development of healthcare in the 19th century. There are lots of interesting parts including how John Hunter led the way to development in surgery, how cottage hospitals developed as a means to improve healthcare in the 19th century, how germ theory developed and developments in tropical medicine. The book is still an intriguing read. Definitely a useful book to understand healthcare in the 19th century.
