Author Ann McIntosh was born in the tropics, lived in the frozen North for a number of years, and now resides in sunny central Florida with her husband. She’s a proud Mama to three grown children, loves tea, crafting, animals (except reptiles!), bacon, and the ocean. She believes in the power of diverse romances to heal, inspire and provide hope in our complex world.
This is a Medical Romance. I found the characters in this book to be fun. I wanted more medical stuff in this book. The romance was fast moving, but slow in away. I enjoyed this book and I found the setting to be so fun. I loved that the two main characters in this book was everything the other one needed. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Harlequin Medical Romance) or author (Ann McIntosh) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.
Lately I've been enjoying the Medical Romances line and Ann McIntosh tends to be a reliable author there for me. I like her storytelling, and the fact that she sets her stories across a variety of locations. This particular novel takes readers to the author's native Jamaica for a delightful Christmas romance.
Divorce neurologist Chloe Bailey is recovering from the end of her marriage, as well as from what sounds like a distinct lack of emotional support from most of her family. When she meets a handsome stranger in a bar, a one-night flings sounds like just the ticket.
Following this intro, the action then swings to Chloe's impending trip to Jamaica. She has been awarded a spot in her hospital's prestigious international fellowship program and she will be presenting seminars and working alongside neurologists at a hospital in Kingston, Jamaica. Chloe welcomes the respite from life in London and she is eager to see her grandparents' homeland. Imagine Chloe's surprise when Sam Powell, the doctor sent to meet her, turns out to be her one night stand. And imagine the further surprise when Chloe learns she is pregnant.
This type of plot twist doesn't generally do it for me, but the author handles it well here. It worked partly because I was already swept up in the excitement of Chloe's arrival and partly because the characters handled the matter like adults - albeit adults who are definitely attracted to one another. I also really enjoyed the setting, as we see Jamaica through the eyes of Jamaican(or in Chloe's case, British Jamaican) characters rather than those of white tourists.
This story has a lot going on. We see Chloe making friends in Kingston, settling in at the hospital and trying to figure out how she wants to interact with Sam. He's clearly a decent guy, but Chloe has understandable hesitation about settling into a relationship with him. There were a few plot points in the story that tend not to be my favorites, but once again, Ms. McIntosh is a good enough author that I kept enjoying the story and wanting to sink into it anyway.
CW: some high-risk pregnancy details may be triggering to some readers
Following a messy divorce, neurologist Chloe Bailey has a one night stand with a handsome surgeon. She never thought she’d see him again, so she figured it was safe. Then, she receives an exciting new assignment in Jamaica and comes face to face with her mystery man, Sam Powell.
Sam and Chloe try to stay away from each other but when Chloe discovers she’s pregnant after their one night stand, everything changes. Chloe doesn’t expect a long term relationship with the man, but she knows he wants to be a father to their child and she won’t deny him that.
As Sam and Chloe battle their past demons, they find themselves being drawn closer and closer. How much longer can they keep their distance?
This is a delightful medical romance. I loved these two characters. Their emotions were genuine. I, also, appreciated that the author didn’t make this into a secret baby story. Chloe told Sam about the baby right from the start and they worked through their issues together with a few obstacles along the way.
Jamaica is the perfect setting. It’s been awhile since I visited the island and wish I could go back there soon. Armchair traveling is the next best thing.
This is the first book in a series that is written by different authors. It doesn’t seem as if they are connected or need to be read in order. I do have the next one already on my Kindle waiting for me.
It looks to be a fun series set around the Christmas holidays. This one was really charming with realistic characters. A "feel good" story to make you smile.

This was way too short. We follow a women from the UK who is recently divorced and goes to California for a medical conference. There she has a one night stand. Then she goes to Jamaica for 2 months to share medical knowledge with a hospital. In Jamaica she meets the man, Sam, she had a one night stand with and is shocked. She is even more shocked when she learns she is pregnant and her and Sam have to decided how to deal with becoming parents. They both have rough pasts with lost of a loved one and manipulative relationships (TW for lost of a child, loved one, and mentally abusive relationships). The first 50 pages are used setting up the story then 200 pages covers 2 months of time. Its just not enough. The book needed to be much longer to make it more believable and build up the relationship. That of the timeline of the story needs to be shorter. Trying to cover 2 months in 250 pages just feels rushed and there was 0 chemistry between the characters beyond the physical. I needed more. And yet, even with the rushed feeling some parts were very repetitive. The characters worries were repeated over and over in the same way.
Neurologist Chloe Bailey had a one-night stand with a surgeon after her divorce. Little did she know that she would see Sam again across the waters into the sunny island of Jamaica! Her assignment is until the new year and during that time she learns she is pregnant which is a drastic change for both doctors.
As a Jamaican, I loved seeing 'back home' through the author's eyes. I could see the lush tropics and feel the sun. It made me ready to go home. I loved how authentic the characters spoke and it was a celebration of heritage. I don't read a lot of medical romances so I loved that Chloe was a neurologist. The detail and experience with neurology was evident, which I appreciated because I learned some things. I have a close family member struggling and I found myself wishing I could refer them to Chloe!
I also love love the cover and I look forward to reading more from this author. Thank you #Netgalley and #Harlequin
Who wouldn't want to work in the Caribbean? And at Christmas! I love stories set in sunny climes at Christmas as it is a different experience of the festive season and it avoids the cliché of a Christmas novel set in a cold place.
Good setting and I was interested as I have never been to Jamaica. Well fleshed-out characters but I would have liked more of the medical side of the plot.
This is my first book by Ann McIntosh and I enjoyed her writing style. It's all the more immersive since Ann was born in the tropics.
The premise of a miracle at Christmas always gives me a warm glow inside and I found myself eagerly wondering how the miracle would happen. The Christmas Project seems a good initiative and I am looking forward to the rest of the books in the series.
I was interested in this book as it mentions a character who is a neurologist and I have neurological disabilities. I also like hospital dramas and the romance was sweet.
Christmas Miracle in Jamaica is a standalone novel.
Thanks to Ann McIntosh and Harlequin Medical Romances for my ARC in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
Christmas Miracle in Jamaica begins the multi-author quartet (series) The Christmas Project with an emotionally delightful clash between two people with sultry chemistry… and a lot of unspoken history. It’s a relatively quick read, yet one with some emotional punch to it (and some of that comes from me wanting to scream into my e-reader, “Please, please really talk to each other!”).
Chloe is recently divorced from a power-hungry jerk who while never physically abusing her certainly did a good job of undermining everything she touches, how her family uses her, and how Chloe sees herself through the constant need to keep the peace. At a medical conference in California, she does something completely out of character for her… she allows herself to follow an instant attraction leading to a sensuous one-night stand believing she’d never see Sam again. And while she might regret that never seeing him again part, she certainly took away memories to last a lifetime. But… be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
Sam and Chloe will meet again, much to each other’s stunning surprise, when she travels to Jamaica for a few months as a neurology consultant for her hospital. Then the sparks are reignited… with much more on the line than they had expected!
As far as memory serves me, this is the first story by Ann McIntosh that I’ve read – and now I’ll be going in search of her backlist. Christmas Miracle in Jamaica was a smooth, well-developed story with characters that leaped off the page for me. There were a few times when some parts of conversations between Chloe and Sam got a bit repetitive, yet, I understood the underlying reason for that as they each struggled with the emotions that were coming to the surface – to deny or accept those feelings became a major third main character of this story. I liked them both, they certainly sizzled, and although the misunderstandings between them held emotions at bay for a long time, when they finally took the risk of bringing love into the picture everything fell into place. I love and appreciate when a story has an epilogue, and this one was precious beyond words.
If you love a strong, at times, stubborn couple fighting falling in love… in a beautiful setting, then this one would be perfect for you. Now on to the next story in this quartet, December Reunion in Central Park by Deanne Anders.
Chloe Bailey is glad to be free. She is an excellent neurologist and gladly takes on a job in Jamaica during the Christmas season but is nearly floored when she runs right into surgeon Sam Powell. At one time the pair shared an amazing night together and now Chloe must decide if she will tell him that she is pregnant with his child. Getting pregnant for Chloe was something that she never thought would happen due to pre-existing conditions. She is over the moon. Will she tell Sam?
What about Sam? How does he feel about seeing Chloe again? And she is pregnant? He is shocked and more than that he is utterly drawn to her. Can they find their way to love and create a family together, one that is already in motion?
This quick Christmas story brought this couple together in love even with the baggage they both brought to the relationship. The story was enjoyable, especially with Chloe's situation. Then, let us not forget the setting - Christmas in Jamaica. A perfect combination to create a memorable story.
Many thanks to Harlequin Medical Romance and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
It's Christmas in Jamaica for this surprise baby medical romance. Shew! That's a lot crammed into a relatively quick read, but it all comes together pretty well. I would've liked to have seen more of the medical side of things since this is categorized as a medical romance. That aside, I enjoyed the story. I like the surprise baby trope, and I liked the way it was handled by Ann McIntosh. Chloe and Sam do have plenty of emotional baggage to work through, so there is some angst, but I liked them as a couple. And of course, there's Jamaica, which makes for a great setting. Who wouldn't want to spend Christmas in Jamaica? Sadly, it's not in the cards for me right now so I'll have to live vicariously through fun characters and entertaining stories like this one.
This book was really adorable. I also really love how they showed a woman who was not only beautiful and strong, but also intelligent. The chemistry between the main characters was lovely. Also, I enjoyed the tightness of the time frame. However, I did get annoyed when the hero told her something very vulnerable and traumatic that he experienced and she got angry at him. She didn't volunteer everything that happened in her past either, This is a double standard that often happens in romance and it annoys me. Overall a great book!
Dr Chloe Bailey has taken a job in Jamaica to get away from England. She just went thru a messy divorce and wants to be in Jamaica the country of her Grandmother. She had a one night affair with Dr Sam Powell at a conference in the USA>. He is at the hospital she has joined. Being around him she realizes what a kind, compassionate person he is. Unexpectedly she is pregnant from the one night stand they had. She is elated. She was told she would never have children. Sam is recovering from a romance with a woman who died and was 4 months pregnant with his child. She never told him. It was a great story on how two people who were leery of relationships ended up together,
My only complaint with this book was that we did not have more time with Sam, Chloe, and Zara as a family! I would like to request another book in this verse with this family. I enjoyed them and their individual trials and how both Chloe and Sam overcame them. Definitely the best fall romance I have read to date!
It took a chapter or two for this romance to grab hold, but once it did, I eagerly read on to experience Sam and Chloe's HEA. Ms. McIntosh is a new-to-me author, and I look forward to reading more of her books.
This one is so fun, cute, full of hot doctors, a one night stand that comes back, Jamaica setting, and family drama and secrets. It also has a hint of Christmas cheer. I really liked this one and made me want to read more medical romances!
I loved this romance! As a Jamaican, it was lovely being taken back home during the holidays. The author does a really good job capturing the essence of the island, the way of life in Kingston, and the food, customs and festivities of Christmas season. The romance is also spicy and so satisfying!
