Germania, nine years after Christ is born, Domitius, a Roman legionary, fled the destruction of his legion to a better fighting position only to find that the barbarian ambush had wiped out his brothers.
Grievously injured, he rushed through the swamps and into the hills where he happened upon a hut and fell into the clutches of a witch.
Will the witch betray him to the barbarian horde for a bounty or flee with him to Rome for a better life?
Twenty years ago, Michael Lachance lived his short stories like defending his fort against foreign fighters, fought in a BB gun war against alien invaders, and rode his horse to save a friend in need. His passion for “against the odds” stories is evident in his novels and he often turns every tale on its side.
Michael loves to research so that details are authentic in his story like The Witch and The Roman; he traveled to Ostia Antica, Italy where his character lived. His genres are romance, historical romance, war, adventure, comedy, mystery, and religion.
Michael’s stories are published in twenty-eight countries and he is a member of the Romance Writers of America. He spends time with an espresso and his heeler, Maisie, while he writes.
DNF. Did not even really start. I read two pages. Some people lack basic writing skills. This man is one of them. Who would write a book about Roman soldiers and not even describe any battle tactics? In two pages, two battles were fought with no descriptions. At least, I think battles were fought. We have a problem with sentence structure and cohesion.
I received this in a goodreads giveaway and this is my honest review
I had a hard time getting through this one, I found it to be kind of slow paced and long, the dialogue was kind of cringey, and there were times the main character was just really annoying . The last third or so did pick up a bit, but overall unfortunately this one just wasn't for me.
