Numbers Game
Former professional football player and coach Duncan "Hatch" Hatcher fumbled his career and marriage. Now divorced and ready to tackle his future, he has an opportunity to redeem himself as coach of his college alma mater's football team. But how can he can turn the team's losing streak around and keep the secret of his downfall buried when the school agrees to a documentary that will allow a lovely journalist to dig her way into his past...and into his heart?
Olivia Grant's ex-husband almost wrecked her journalism career while he definitely did a number on her self-esteem. The documentary on Duncan Hatcher is the perfect way to rebuild both. As a freshman in college, she'd had a crush on the senior football hero, but he hadn't known she existed. She never expects the sparks that fly between them as they work on the project nor the struggles they must face if they both want to win.

There’s an unwritten rule in football coaching: numbers will only get you so far, the rest is up to timing. Duncan ‘Hatch’ Hatcher is a former pro football player trying to score a second career as the coach for his college alma mater. He needs to focus all of his energies on turning the school’s losing streak around but he’s finding it hard to concentrate when the lovely Olivia Grant is on campus. She’s a sports journalist who’s doing a documentary on him and the football team. He’s drawn to her in so many ways, but he can’t afford to drop the ball. Everything is riding on this and he refuses to let the past dictate his future. Can Hatch trust Olivia with his heart or is he just another story?
Numbers Game is a touchdown from start to finish. This football romance is not your ordinary second-chance romance. Both Hatch and Olivia are in desperate need of a redo in their retrospective careers and a second chance at finding lasting love. The descriptive narration, from the intricacies of the game of football to falling in love to overcoming scandal, is brilliantly done. As a die-hard football fan, I enjoyed seeing the game from Hatch’s and Olivia’s viewpoints. With Liz Crowe and Desiree Holt writing from different POV’s, I was impressed by how seamless the storylines flowed. If I didn’t know this was a collaborative effort, I’d swear it was written by a single author. The writing itself is sublime with vibrant characters, a perfectly paced plot, and a romance between two mature adults. While the attraction was immediate, the romance was slow-burning. The conflict was just enough to whet the reader’s appetite, to keep the pages turning. The ending was very satisfactory, and I must admit, I didn’t want it to end. I wanted to stay with Hatch and Olivia just a little bit longer. If you love football as much as you love romance, pick up Numbers Game. If you’re a contemporary romance reader, you’re going to fall in love with Numbers Game. If you’re a big fan of second-chance romance, you need to read Numbers Game. An instant classic in the romance genre, Numbers Game is a must-read. Highly recommend!

Olivia Grant, a top notch reporter that has been drug through the mud with her divorce, found the perfect story to revive her career. None other than local football star and head coach, Duncan “Hatch” Hatcher, is coming back home to coach the local college football team back out of the rut they’ve been in.
Not only will this story hopefully revive Olivia’s career, but Lakeview is held dear to her, being her own (and Hatch’s) alma mater. Not knowing each other through college was a shame...for both. Hatch is absolutely gorgeous with his god-like body and sensual talk and smile. And even though Olivia doesn’t see it, her “behind the scenes” gorgeousness has Hatch drooling over the what if’s between them, 24/7.
Olivia thinks Hatch is perfect. Perfect man, athlete, coach, everything. So why did his marriage dissolve? Why come back to little ‘ole college football when the whole world is at your fingertips? There’s something the world doesn’t know, and finding out might ruin the spark between the two. And boy are there speaks.
The chemistry between the two is impalpable and off the charts. Heat doesn’t begin to describe it. Inferno might be a closer word. But secrets that could destroy something before it even starts lingers in the background...
Desiree is one of my all time favorite authors. Not reading for awhile, coming back to one of her off the chart books was exactly what I needed! This book will have you on the edge of your seat, waiting and WANTING it all!! If I could give it more than 5 stars, I absolutely would!!

Can we get some more collaboration books from Desiree and Liz? They actually touchdown together with this fantastic college football book. They each bring their own characteristics of writing and humor and sex to make you feel like you are on the sidelines watching it all unfold. I seriously couldn't put this book down and found myself wanting to get angry and cheer and felt the chemistry of Duncan and Olivia. This is a great second chance book as well as Sports but what I absolutely love about this book is the ages of the characters it was absolutely fantastic to a heroine at the age of 40. Loved it. Olivia is divorced and trying to get her career going again after her ex tried to destroy her and when she takes on a documentary with Lakeview University football team and coach Duncan Jerome "Hatch " who is head coach. Hatch has been keeping a secret but when he falls for Olivia can he trust her ? Or will her crazy ex and slimeball reporter try to destroy both of them? This book is absolutely 💯a must read and Please Please ladies write another book together.

When Olivia begins to film a documentary on legendary football player, turned D1 team coach Duncan 'Hatch' Hatcher, she never expected to fall in love. Both having come through messy divorces, they aren't looking for another relationship, but the late night meetings turn to more, and they find themselves keeping their relationship and feelings a secret. But when Hatch's past comes back to haunt him, will it be over for them as a couple, and their careers?
Unfortunately, this book just didn't click for me. Firstly, it's in the third person which I just am not a fan of in romance books, as when I read I picture myself as the main character, and that's hard to do in the third pov. Also, it was very clearly written by two authors, because it was very repetitive. There was no cohesion in the parts they wrote, for example, I think it mentioned that Olivia was trying to pick up her career again four times in just the first chapter, which seemed excessive, but makes sense if two people had written it.
As for the plot, both Olivia and Hatch seemed fairly two dimensional, there was barely anything to pad them out and make them real people, like friends and family. They were both tied to their jobs and had best friend who would randomly appear, but other than that, I felt by the end I barely knew anything about them. I didn't really feel the connection between them either, it just got hot and heavy, and other than why they looked the way they did, there was never really moment or an indications as to why they both fell in love so quickly.
I think with some editing to make the plot flow better, I would've enjoyed it more, but when certain parts are repeated only pages apart in slightly different wording, but don't add anything to the plot, it takes you out of the reading experience because you think 'hang on, didn't I just read that exact sentence.' This may be a case of I'm being too picky, it's not the book it's me, but unfortunately, I just didn't click with Numbers Game.

I was drawn into this mesmerizing story from the first page by the storyline and the characters. The two main characters, Hatch and Olivia are both mature, successful people who have gone through some tough times. They are content in their single lives, until they meet each other.
Olivia is apprehensive about starting over as a producer at thirty seven. She has gone through a painful divorce and a husband that nearly ruined her career. She is excited and nervous to start this next phase of her life. To revive her career she has decided to do a documentary on the golden boy of football Duncan “Hatch” Hatcher. When she meets him sparks fly and she tries to stay focused on only the documentary, but Hatch is impossible to resist. Olivia’s ex husband beat her down with insults and verbal abuse. Hatch does the opposite. Olivia has never met anyone like Hatch, he treats her like gold and is always complimenting her.
At forty two Hatch has had a great career; he is good looking and adored. He was a legend in both college and professional football and now he has come back to his college football team as the head coach. Unfortunately, the team and the football program isn’t as good as it used to be and he has some hard work ahead of him. Hatch knows he needs to concentrate on his new team, but there is something about Olivia that he can’t ignore.
Hatch and Olivia are wonderful together. They both have pasts they aren’t ready to talk about and secrets they don’t want exposed. Hatch and Olivia are both working on rebuilding their careers and don’t have time to get involved in a relationship with each other but from the moment they meet, there is a spark they find hard to ignore.
What I enjoyed the most about this book was Hatch. He is a mixture of a big tough football player, but he is also tender and a romantic at heart. He has given up on marriage and relationships, but with Olivia, everything just seems to click. Hatch is a great guy and I loved the way he treats Olivia.
I enjoyed all the encounters between Hatch and Olivia. They are soulmates meant to be together, but not everyone is happy they are together. Neither one of them has time for distractions and an attraction could potentially derail their careers. They are wonderful together and share a passionate relationship. They don’t hold back or play any games with each other and even though they are both successful, they are also vulnerable. I never wanted this story to end.

Four and a half stars
Numbers Game by Desiree Holt and Liz Crowe is the story of Duncan "Hatch" Hatcher and Olivia Grant. A relatively successful quarterback, Hatch dropped the ball on his career and marriage. His college alma mater has hired him as the head coach, and given him the opportunity to turn the team and his life around.
Olivia Grant is a journalist looking to revitalize her career away from the clutches of her powerful and vindictive ex husband. She recognizes that creating an amazing documentary on Hatch and Lakeview could be the turning point.
Desiree Holt and Liz Crowe have created two likeable and sympathetic characters in Liv and Hatch. These two have not had an easy time of it, and their pasts have a way of creeping into their presents. Ms Holt and Ms Crowe have written a page-turning plot that reflects their love and understanding of football and journalism. Hatch and Liv jump off the pages as they work to balance their heated attraction and their commitment to their respective careers. And the secondary characters bring humor and wisdom as well.
Numbers Game is terrific read.

Touchdown!!! This is a collaboration between Desiree Holt and Liz Crowe, and what a duo are they. This was a phenomenal read that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. Duncan “Hatch” Hatcher is a former pro football player who is now divorced and looking to start over by taking the head coaching job at his old Alma Mater. Olivia Grant is a journalist who’s ex husband tried to destroy her. She’s doing a story on Hatch. She also went to the same college. They have an instant attraction, will their past and secrets destroy what’s starting between them? This book was awesome and I truly couldn’t stop until it was done!! Thanks lady’s for a fantastic read and I hope you both do another really soon.

NUMBERS GAME will have you on the edge of your seat in a matter of moments with this realistic, fun, tough and timely offering by authors Desiree Holt and Liz Crowe.
This is a second chance story, not in the sense that Hatch and Olivia had broken up and got back together type of book, but in the sense that both of them are starting over and merit happiness. But, sometimes happiness is found after the couples follow a rather twisted path and this is one fun roller coaster ride.
The wedding scene is perfect but you will have to read NUMBERS GAME to find out what it is and how this couple found their HEA they so deserve. One of the best second chance books on the market.

OMG!!! What an awesome read. Olivia "Liv" Grant and Jerome Duncan "Hatch" Hatcher, meet as she's doing a documentary to restart her career and he's making a come back as a coach at their alma mater. Following these two o there journey provided all the feels. These two were so fun as they came together like rabbits!! 😊
How they end up sticking together in spite of some bad moves by Hatch was worth the ride. I really enjoyed this book and hope these two authors collaborate again in the future.
If your looking for a great, hard to put down read I recommend this one.

An awesome sports romance with second chances. Duncan "Hatch" Hatcher had it all: a successful career as a professional football player and a loving wife. That is until he gambled it away and had to start from scratch. His new start was at his Alma Mater, rebuilding the football program. Olivia Grant's ex-husband all but ruined her professionally. Her big chance was a documentary about Hatch and the football program he was rebuilding. As they worked together, their attraction grew. Their relationship had a rocky road, but the video program never lost its stride. All the characters were well-developed and realistic. I enjoyed this story, and I recommend it.

It was a slow burn kind of book, but at the same time not ... They should not have started a relationship, but they did it anyways, consequences be darned. They both have reasons for doing this documentary and it could go wrong in so many different ways. I absolutely loved the chapter when Hatch was telling Olivia in detail what he was going to do to/with her. I also loved the take charge Olivia at certain times in the bedroom. "Did I lose my touch", said by both of them! I adored Tank "Sit. Good boy." and totally swooned in the last chapter. What a venue choice, absolutely perfect. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it.

Numbers Game is Sports Romance at its best.
Two struggling souls, Hatch and Olivia, whose worlds collide. Sparks fly and second chances seem/become possible. The obstacles are many and are never ending; finding that one special person is as difficult as holding on to that relationship of a lifetime.
Numbers Game has all the feels, it is unputdownable, and strikes the perfect balance between sports and romance. A not to be missed story/book. Very highly recommend!

These new to me authors knocked it out of the park with this beautiful sports (football) romance!
This is a second-chance romance between Hatch and Olivia, She who loved him from afar, He who was so focused on his career, he couldn’t see what he really needed was the girl with stars in her eyes for him.
These two characters were well-developed and I was thoroughly invested in their story.

These authors tell a great story about 2nd chances. Both are starting over when they meet over a documentary she's doing on him. What they don't plan on is falling for each other. The book is about falling in love again, overcoming addiction and divorce. There's heat and great friends and college ball oh and those who want her to fail. It's a story and characters you'll love!
April 21, 2021
Not my usual read (mostly into military/romantic suspense) but I found myself engaged by a well written story. Desiree Holt and Liz Crowe made Olivia and Hatch, characters that are realistically flawed. They both have pasts and those pasts influence their thoughts and reactions.
April 21, 2021
This is a great story! Not only about football, but about love, hope and second chances. Olivia and Hatch have a lot of ups and downs. They both struggle with things from their past. There’s a bit of drama and intrigue along the way. The ending is the best!

Hatch and Olivia both overcome obstacles in their life to get their life back on track. Her ex is determined to derail her along with another reporter.
April 23, 2021
Olivia Grant finally has the opportunity to reclaim her reputation and her career. The damage her ex, Daniel Forrest, has done to her self confidence is still playing with her mind, but now she knows she can and will overcome any obstacles. He took enough from her she's not ever caving again. This documentary on Duncan 'Hatch' Hatcher is her ticket back and it's going to be perfect.
Duncan Hatcher is now the Head Coach at his Alma Mater Lakeview University. It's important for him to build a successful team, to prove himself worthy of this opportunity. The team he's working with is not one he helped choose, and they are sorely lacking in the discipline needed in a winning team. He's also looking forward to the documentary as long as his personal life stays personal in the process.
What neither of them realize is that there will be a spark between them from that first interview.
Other than her mind reverting to things her ex has said and done to undermine her, someone else enters the picture to muddy the waters. Bert Hoekstra a freelance reporter who thrives on dirt and the worst kinds of gossip is waiting in the parking lot by her car. He wants access he's been denied but Olivia will not be coerced. Not anymore.
Now what Olivia doesn't know and won't for a while is the reason behind Hatch's divorce and leaving the professional coaching arena behind.
The documentary will be beneficial to all involved and Olivia is putting her heart and soul into it. Hatch understands all of this as well, and he can't help but fall for her.
I laughed and cried a bit too, these two are complicated and fun. There are many ups and downs in this story and the romance is sweet as well as sizzling.
I would love to read more from this awesome author pairing.

The book Numbers Game is well worth reading. Ms. Crowe and Ms. Holt have spun a tale filled with underdogs and readers will applaud and root for their success. Truth? What’s not to love about a football team on a losing streak, a coach who will do anything to help his team, and a woman who breaks away from a bully? Nothing, that’s what. Duncan Jerome Hatcher’s addiction to gambling broke up his marriage, lost him a job he loved, and caused him to seek help. Now he has a chance to prove he is a better man, an excellent coach, and someone you can count on. Olivia Grant is starting over from divorcing an abusive husband who treats her no better than he would someone serving him a drink. His belief others should be happy to serve him spills over onto Olivia, and when she wouldn’t do what he asked, he threatened to ruin her career as a sportswriter. Both Hatch and Olivia meet while she is preparing a documentary about his career. Although there were no fireworks at that first encounter, the heat produced could fire up a dead battery in the middle of winter. Yet, Numbers Game is not just about the physical attraction between two people or even romance, it is a book that embodies the belief that anything is possible if you don’t give up. This reviewer will definitely be looking for more books by this talented duo!
Yet, Numbers Game is not just about the physical attraction between two people or even romance, it is a book that embodies the belief that anything is possible if you don’t give up. . . . Making a pass could just mean scoring a second chance . . .
Numbers Game, a contemporary romance, written by author duo Liz Crowe and Desiree Holt, is a current release out of the Scarlet Rose line for the Wild Rose Press.
Duncan Hatcher made several serious mistakes in the past, for which he paid a high price. He now works a recovery program each and every day while transitioning from pro quarterback to coach of a flagging college program. Likewise, sports journalist Olivia Grant made the same mistake as women have for centuries by placing her trust in the wrong man. The price she paid turned out to be as disastrous as those made by Hatch.
Their initial meeting sparks an immediate and intense attraction but each must overcome past mistakes and almost crippling fear of making the same mistake twice. Despite sometimes overwhelming obstacles, the two work together to recover, heal, and move on to the next step in their lives.
Our Review: What romance enthusiast resists a hunky hero, winning heroine and a second chance at love? Not us. Enhancing this terrific story, set against a colorful background of college sports and the intensity of journalistic rivalry, authors Crowe and Holt crafted two multi-layered characters whose goals, motivation and conflict made for a compelling read from page one. Adding to the mix is fast-paced action, steamy romance, and well-deserved retribution.
On a scale of 1-5, Numbers Game deserves a 6

An enjoyable and fun read.
Well developed flawed characters who find love and redemption make this book an interesting read.
Football based, the story has lots of elements of this which do well to fill out the characters and their relationships. Hatch has a secret, one he isn’t keen to let go but in the end Olivia doesn’t judge him for it anyway. Olivia had an ex husband with clout and a bad attitude, determined to see her fail.
I liked how the characters interacted, and that their romance wasn’t linear. Though I did get mildly frustrated that at the hint of a problem they seemed to break up before realising they couldn’t live without each other (again..) seemed more high school than mature adult behaviour.
I also thought Olivias backstory was hinted at strongly (in terms of what happened with her ex) but was never really fully explained. It was also wrapped up quickly (in about 2 pages) when it finally came to a head which felt mildly rushed.
Despite this, overall a really good read

Olivia and Hatch
She’s trying to revive her career after her ex did his best to not only ruin it but ruin her. He’s looking for a chance to rebuild his career as a football giant without the mistakes he previously made. When sparks start to fly, will they end up helping or hurting each other?
Olivia and Hatch are on fire! This book is super steamy- it’s amazing!! I really enjoyed the fact that both characters were older, and had their own serious baggage. It made it much more interesting to read! I love that they approach so many important topics like gambling in professional sports, being a female sports reporter, abusive exes, etc. There are so many ups and downs, twists and turns that will leave you sitting on the edge of your seat asking what else could possibly happen?
This book was amazing! Definitely check it out! I can’t wait to read more by these author!

Sports romance isn't my preferred genre but when it's written by these authors you make an exception!
Olivia may be a great reporter but that didn't save her from being divorced and made out to be the bad guy! She needs a story to revive her sidelined career and interviewing the local head coach, a returning sporting hero, may just save her.
Duncan (aka Hatch) is in need of his own second chance. His career ended in tatters and now divorced himself he needs a fresh start.
Olivia and Hatch may look outwardly perfect and gorgeous but they both hide their cracks well...most of the time. They just need the perfect partner who can see past the cracks and mend all their broken little pieces. Scalding passion runs high with these two!

A second chance is what both Olivia and Hatch are looking for. Their careers have taken a beating but redemption is in front of them. Neither was looking for love but are they ready to grab it?
Numbers Game Desiree Holt and Liz Crowe is a wonderful second chance story. Hatch and Olivia are fighting to rise from the professional ashes. They never expected to find something more. But trusting in themselves and each other may become an obstacle too big for them alone. I love that they gave friends that won't let them down.
This is a well written story that I thoroughly enjoyed. I loved the journey Olivia and Hatch took to their happily ever after.

Yes I am a Crowe fan, however, this is her first book co-written with Desiree Holt who is a new to me author. One thing for certain, Liz can write some epic sports stories and Desiree is known for her erotic fiction. This book, Numbers Game is the story of a former professional football player, ready to tackle some demons and a TV journalist whose ex-husband has done a number on her journalism career and self esteem.
What a great story of adults, college players, the media, the staff and the ex's that twists and turns and comes together for an EPIC HEA ending. If you've not read Liz in awhile, pick this one up, it a great read. Did I mention it is SMOKIN HOT?

My favorite of all romance is probably second chance romance! There’s just something special about finding the right person after so many wrong people!
This book is fun with the football theme and the great characters. Hatch is a college football coach and Olivia is a sports reporter and they have chemistry in spades! Olivia is a divorced woman who was married to a powerful man in the sports casting world. She is working on her comeback and she meets the handsome coach who will rock her world.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes a great story and fun sports included.

A second chance for both for fery different reasons but maybe not so...
Hatch returning back to the beginning of his playing career but this time as coach.
Olivia has a chance to do a documentary on the local footy hero and is stepping away from her overpowering ex. Together they grow stronger in their chosen careers but are they willing to take a second chance on love? A good storyline that keeps the pages turing.
