The Beast Realms are under threat: the land, water and air are poisoned. Its leaders are power-crazed and its people are divided. Worse still, strange and powerful Beasts have started dropping from the sky, causing carnage.
With the Beast Realms in turmoil and a ragtag group of insanely strong assassins on Team Venom’s tail, their chances of survival are slim. Escaping through man-eating jungles, seeking allies in underwater and treetop cities, Art and his team need to forge alliances to grow stronger.
As he grows in power, Art is able to unlock more and more secrets of his Gray Knight class. But skill alone will not be enough – to beat the overwhelming odds, he must tap into the unbridled power of the Beasts themselves…
Change is coming and the weak will die out – unless they evolve.
Clearly surpassing last years Chrysalis, the first book in the series, RP Jones has written a tremendous sequel with Evolution. Not only is the scope wider, the action hits new heights with much more nefarious villains. The inclusion of the occasional pop reference lightens the mood at times "It's Godrilla versus MothrArt" was my favorite, though an obscure reference, but these breaks in the action are rare. The main characters Art and Nux along with their beast familiars (Team Venom) engage in a series of quests that range from small to spectacular and keep the reader hooked up to the explosive final battle of the book. It's going to be painful to have to wait to see what comes next.
Evolution - the second book in the Beast Realms manages to out pace its predecessors in a series of unpredictable plot-twists and the continued growth of our favorite lizard man, his little bigger, Nux and her ravenous Shadoweaver. We also get introduced to several unlikely allies with unique skills that showcase not everyone has to be a fighter to fulfill their role in the grand scheme of things.
This book was beyond amazing I really enjoyed Art and Knox’s journey. It made me think back of when they first met, they were kind of like oil and water, but they learn to work together I love the part with arts companion with his healing or salve. I look forward to reading the next book when it comes out.
About the same as the first book. Lots of casual swearing, some gender-bending wierdness, and a fair bit of the author using poor logic to cause the plot to go the direction they wanted.
Great book!! I only wish I could play a game with evolving races and creatures.
Amazing new characters, vehicles, locations, skills, and races. New abilities abound as our favorite Lacerta and Halfling join the Alliance to fight the king’s mad scheming!
Jumping right back in from where we left off, team Venom was captured, collared with anti-magic devices and their gems taken. An incredible adventure is upon them so get comfortable friends. For something new is around every corner as the team bounces around on missions throughout their corner of the world. A devastating new enemy begins falling from the sky, and it seems more sinister plans are afoot.
Ship captain Kes’s oyster was a life saver and I enjoyed seeing the different creatures and their abilities throughout the books. Team Venom’s adventures through multiple biomes with different creatures. Amazing locations like Monkey Island and its Beast Rider tribe have their own flavor of challenges and missions but much to teach Venom.
Artheim’s newest skill is one anyone would want! The evolutions that Nails and Art go through are a wild idea that has me excited for their next upgrades.
What does this new world have to show us? In both novels they discover different challenges and people in the zones they travel to while pursuing quests, just like an MMORPG! I only wish I could play a game with evolving races and creatures.
Picking up directly from where the last cliffhanger left us in the previous part, Team Venom continue their quest into the game of beast realms.
What I liked about this novel was that the focus of the novel shifts adversaries from those in the first novel. It builds on some of the encounters in the previous novel without leaving the reader bored from reading about the same challenge ad nauseam.
My big dislike is that once again there is a cliffhanger. Not quite as bad as last time but thoroughly annoying.
This installment of the trilogy is not earth shattering but it is definitely a nice read and worth the trouble.
Picking back up in this series I completely misremembered this as the sequel to Dungeons of Strata rather than Chrysalis resulting in a lot of confusion early on.
Evolution is fine, but the series in general just doesn't seem to have as much going on as Dungeons of Strata.
Just finished book 2. Enjoyed it as much as Chrysalis. The characters have grown a lot since the first book. Still has the references coming through from the first book. A little more subtle this time. Still caught them. I'm looking forward to future books in the Beast Realm series. Mother Clucker was an unexpected favourite.
To put it shortly then boops are amazing I love reading stories like this but where they are trapped in that world was kinda expecting it at first but now I don't as I wanna see his and art get together
Really good follow up to the 1st book, and story unravel while adding further por, what I like and hate most of this book is how the MC power are kept in check, not miraclesly turning him OP.
This is quite a different outlook on the usual LitRPG and from book 1 I like how the mad power levelling hasn't went crazy and we feel a bit more of that bond from Art especially as they progress. Looking forward to book 3 as they face an even larger threat.
A little entertaining but doesn't have what made the first special. Main character gets an OP ability that has one small limitation. Doesn't feel like a MMORPG. You can see who's going to be bad a mile away. What happened to all the other players?
Great series! Go team Venom! Art and Nux, did it again in this book, managing to get it done once more... Of course there is a cliff hanger. Lots of action and humor. I highly recommend.
Art/Artheim and Xun/Nux continue their adventures in the Beast Realms VRMMORPG that offers them some escape from the reality of their nearly dead post-apocalypse world. The game world grows more complex as the two adventurers become embroiled in a civil war and loose some allies while gaining others and facing greater challenges from both characters and beasts.
And the author writes puns, some are bad, some are good, and some are clever -- a few are charming.
This novel will likely appeal to fans of the Fantasy and LitRPG genres; as well as those who enjoy playing RPGs.
