They say if you take a secret to the grave, the truth will stay buried.
But that’s not exactly true in my case, and each hidden truth that surfaces turns out to be even more dangerous than the last. As a medium, I’m used to seeing the line that divides the living from the dead. Almost crossing said line? Yeah…I’ll never get used to that.
Though every secret I unearth seems to push me closer and closer to that very fate. I’m not exactly helpless this time around, at least. I’ve spent the last few months training and learning everything I can about magic, and having a demon-hunting boyfriend doesn’t hurt either.
Just when it seems like I’m finally getting things figured out, I discover the biggest lie of them all, and it changes everything…including my ability to trust the very person I thought I could count on more than anyone, leaving me to face the darkness just how I did before.

This was a middle-of-the-road book for me. I know I should not compare Anora and Ethan to Callie and Lucas, but the latter two have ruined everything for me, especially Lucas! The storyline was a bit too slow, but it did pick up in the middle, hence my 3 star rating. I enjoyed the little twist at the end, so I definitely will be reading the third installment.
Cocktails and Books received this book for free from in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.Anora and Ethan now live in Thorne Hill and we start to see how their lives on now that they're on their own. Anora takes care of her horses, they work on clearing out the house and Ethan sometimes has order work. It seems like a normal life, except Anora is getting bits and pieces of her memory back, she working on her magic, a druid/fae friend stops by for an extended visit and so do some demons...ya know, normal.
I spent a lot of this book waiting for Callie and Anora to run into each other (it doesn't happen) but it was always in the back of my mind anytime she ventured out and lead to some slight disappointment. There is no promise from the author that this will ever happen, but since they're both in the same small town and Anora loves Novel Grounds I figure it has to happen. This is something I need to work through.
I did love the new characters that we meet in this installment. I want Anora to have friends and people to lean on. She's starting to get that and it makes me happy to know that there are people who accept her for who she is and don't look down on her because of her powers. I have a feeling as this series moves on, she's going to need that support system.
I’d give this one 3.5 stars. First, I love Emily Goodwin’s novels. She is one of my go-to authors. Overall, I enjoyed this book and the continuation of Anora and Ethan’s story and I am anticipating the next in the series. However, there were a couple of things I’d change.
Here is my list of positives: -Anora and Ethan’s relationship in general is incredibly cute and fun to read about. There’s steam, love, attentiveness, and affection. I genuinely like them as a couple. -Because I’ve read previous Goodwin novels, I know that I can expect an easy and faithful relationship which is always a plus for me personally. -I like watching Anora learn about magic and figure things out. It’s fun and interesting to see what will happen next. -I like the cross over between this series and the Thorne Hill series. It’s not so much that it’s a distraction, but I like seeing some of the same characters and places.
Here is what I didn’t like as much: -For me, the pacing was off in this book at the beginning. I felt like Anora did a lot of sleeping in the first half of the book and that seemed like it was about it. She seriously would wake up tired, feed the horses and go back to bed. Then she’d get up and eat breakfast but she was still tired so she’d go back to bed. Later she’d get up, go to the attic and decide it was too cold, and then, because she was so tired, she’d take a nap. I don’t know, but I just feel like I’m the first half of the book I kept reading about this poor sleepy girl and that was it. I stuck with the book and enjoyed it once the pace and action picked up. -Toward the end of the book there was an overwhelming amount of typos. I know it’s hard to edit these texts and there’s usually a few minor errors. It just seemed like more than I would normally find.
Overall, even with the sleepiness of the first half, I still liked the book and want to continue the series. There is a lot of Ethan and Anora’s story that hasn’t been told yet and I’m interested to see what happens.
Starfire is amazing. I love how it picks off where Nightfall pretty much leaves off. Anora and Ethan are hot. You get this new batch of characters that just embrace Anora and her magical ways. This one will have you pulled in and will not let you go as Anora battles new set of challenges when it comes to demons and getting her memory back. I love Ethan and Anora so much. I'm so looking forward to more to come from the Grime Gate series. If you haven't had a chance to meet them yet, then you really need to.
I really really love Emily’s Thorne Hill and I’m enjoying reading more about that world with this series but the amount of grammatical errors in this book was insane. I love these stories so much and I have friend who I know would love them too but they can’t get past all the errors. It makes me sad and I hope she gets an editor or a better one so that the stories don’t get overshadowed by the errors. Over all I enjoyed this book though. Something about Ethan irks me though. I can’t wait for her to meet Callie. If you can get past the errors it’s a good story.
This was a good continuation of this story. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the next book in the series. The only reason I gave it four instead of 5 stars was that there were a lot of typos and it seemed like no one proofread it before publishing. Otherwise, like all of this author's books, it was very well written. While I enjoyed the story, the frequent typos/wrong words was very distracting.
Book one was amazing but this book was better and the plot was so addictive. Anora is a amazing character and I love flashes of memories we keep getting and her journey to help uncover them along with her journey with her powers. I'm loving Ethan and how he is there for Anora but I'm getting the feeling her is hiding something from her. I cant wait to see how these guys stories play out and I especially can't wait tocsee where book three takes us after that perfect cliffhanger ending
I am waiting PATIENTLY for Annora to meet Callie. The twist at the end of the story was a nice surprise. The secondary cast of characters, now her friends, were a nice addition. I need more Grim Gate like yesterday!!
I read the first book and since it captured my attention so well I had to keep reading and start this book. I love that the story is not predictable. It had me smiling a lot and saying 'oh sh*t' more than a few times. Can't wait to read the next one.
Anora is having trouble with hallucinations and can't wait to get rid of them, her friend and an old friend of her Aunt help her and Ethan to solve the problem and watch out for the reapers who thinks Anora is their alpha.
So enjoyable these stories are. I love reading them. I love each character not demons and I love the storyline so much. On to the 3rd story. Anora meets Ruby. Yeah!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜😊😊😊😊😊
The story line was fantastic, but the physical book itself had a ton of grammatical errors and notes by the author. It felt like a first draft version of the book that hadn’t gone through editing.
This is a good continuation of the story. It’s a bit calmer than the first book. There is a big demon enemy in this one but it’s much more calmer than the first book.
I wanted to love it, and I read this one and on to no.2 because I was enjoying it, but for the love of my sanity how many times do we have to know they fed the horses, again, or he fed them for her, and he's a wonnnnderful boyfriend.. and the spelling mistakes floored me. I think this needed a damned good editor, or better one than did the original editing because it has holes and problems aplenty. It wasn't bad enough for me to put down, but I did despair at times!

Not as much going on in this book at the start. The action does pick up and leaves me with some questions about how things will play in the future with the reapers. I’m really enjoying Anora and Ethan’s relationship. Goodwin is a pro at writing strong, believable characters.
