From Now Until Forever

Rate this book
She’s trusted the wrong man too many times. But when she starts a fling with her best friend’s playboy brother, she knows exactly what she’s getting into…right?

Sophie Delaware has chronically bad taste in men. After another disastrous relationship implodes, she’s ready to give up on love. What she needs is a little fun, with no strings attached, and she knows the perfect guy for the job.

Cooper hasn’t had a serious relationship since he returned from military service. He wears his serial dater persona like a cloak and doesn’t speak of the nightmares that plague him. When Sophie proposes two weeks of unadulterated pleasure, he knows he shouldn’t agree, but his little sister’s best friend grew up to be more tempting than he expected.

Before Sophie knows it, Cooper has taken it upon himself to be her one-man support system. He was supposed to be a fling, but there’s more to the dreamy veteran than meets the eye, and now she’s at risk of losing her heart. When it comes time for their affair to end, will she be brave enough to put everything on the line, or will her past get in the way of happily ever after?

🌏Is the haunted hero capable and ready to change his roguish ways?

3.🌟 stars
The romance in this story was fine, with some smoldering steam and emotional connection, but there were details in the rest of the plot that did not add up. The hero is a New Zealand⚓ Navy veteran who gets injured on duty on land in Iran. What mission could he be on in a country that has not seen military action within its borders for decades? And why would the Navy conduct missions on land anyway? I also felt the action ending was too pat and not an organic part of the story: it just came out of left field for dramatic effect. and had nothing to do with the rest of the story.

I read a complimentary copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

Likeable characters and an ok story. Her lack of trust got kind of exhausting fast. Glad it was addressed and dealt with.

Eh

Cute idea, but the female character harps on old things too much and it frustrates the story. Quick read, but don't expect something great.

He is a wounded soldier without a war trying to numb himself in the beds of female strangers. She is his sister's best friend and should be off limits to him, but she wants him in a way he is happy to deliver.

Sophie Delaware is a lady with many depths. On the outside she is a realtor and upbeat member of the community. In private she mourns the loss of her late father and takes care of her heartbroken mother. Sophie just found her on again/off again long term boyfriend in the arms of another woman and she is so incredibly tired.

Cooper Simmons returned to his hometown with physical scars and deep emotional ones that no one sees. His reputation as a man-wh*re in their community is not inaccurate but he is beginning to see why it's a short term fix for a long term problem. When he accidentally runs into his sister's best friend he is delighted to catch up with her. But when she asks him for a temporary no-strings attached fling, he immediately turns her down and regrets it.

Sophie is extremely aware of the chemistry between her and Cooper which is why she suggests an arrangement that will suit both of them. But his reluctance puts her self esteem in a dark place. Once Cooper realizes he can't refuse her they begin a spicy arrangement. Soon Cooper finds himself wanting more as Sophie has one foot out the door leaving him in a scenario he has never been in before.

Dual POV, sister's best friend, fling turned into forever, wounded war hero, female victim of cheating partner, loss of parent, sex scenes: yes.

Second book from this author and while it was a better reading experience than book one it didn't land perfectly with me.

Spoilers:

I appreciate the spin on the trope that it's the sisters bestie instead of the brother's. Sophie is a hurting, broken woman who tries to use meaningless sex to fix her emotional trauma. I'm not even a radical feminist but this message is a huge red flag on how she values herself as a woman. Sophie's insecurities cannot be fixed properly by getting into the bed of a man who only wants her body. Cooper is not a bad guy. He is very open about his relationships with women, or lack thereof, and knows he isn't what Sophie needs. Cooper has his own inner demons he needs to address and uses Sophie as a placebo remedy for his emotional wounds. These two don't have strong potential long term just looking at their attachment styles and coping mechanisms. I wanted more emotional intimacy between these two that went beyond the carnal. When these two weren't horizontal, they were bickering and not respecting each other in a healthy way. Impulsivity and miscommunication dominate their personalities when I wanted to see them grow stronger as characters. I don't believe I will be continuing on with this series. Sweet HEA and clever Epilogue matches the Epilogue in book one.

Sophie Delaware has just caught her now ex, in a compromising situation with his secretary. In the office on his desk, one evening when he said he was working late. She thought she would surprise him, after him being so generous by waiting, to hit it sexually, right when they just got back together. Walking past his office window gave her a clear view of, all the action he was getting from her. Running from the horrible scene, she drove away in tears but realized she is hurt, demoralized, and not in love with, Evan.

After, thinking about it she decides she needs to talk to, Aria so she heads there taking the wine, with her. She knocks, to no answer. So, she waits and drinks that wine. When she hears footsteps approaching. But, heavier than, Aria could make. Ready to pounce on the person with the bottle, it turns out to be, Cooper, Aria’s brother. The two of them talk and he finds out what happened, to her and her ex. He is not happy with what he is hearing.

Things don’t get, to pull her down for long, though because she has her mom, to care for. She has, MS which started ten years ago, but it has gotten worse in conjunction with, her depression. What Sophie doesn't know is, that Cooper is suffering from, PTSD as well as, survivor's guilt. She knows that, Coop is known for his one-offs, and that intrigues, Sophie to no end. Thinking that meaningless sex is favorable to him, he doesn't react well to the proposal she comes up with for an ‘All out sexfest,’ but with no attachments.

But, when he does answer it’s a, no in every way possible. With his sister being, the most important factor. She is not happy with, the rejection but just tells him she will find, someone else. Making Sophie all he can think about, which never happens. This is a unique book, of two people helping each other, manage difficult stressors in life. However, they are being such closed books, to those around them they can't help them.

This was another quick and enjoyable read by this author. I believe these can be read as standalone stories, but I did read book one and it helped because it made me invested in Cooper and this book does bring in the characters from book one as well. This is the second book in the series and features Cooper and Sophie.

Cooper is Aria’s brother (from book one). He is retired Navy and suffers from horrible PTSD. We learn about his last moments in the Navy and it explains his current troubles with commitment and how poorly he has been coping with his PTSD. He has a very big heart, but doesn’t want to be a burden to anyone so he keeps his relationships short. He shows up at Aria’s house one night after he broke it off with his latest fling, but finds himself giving advise to Sophie instead.

Sophie is one of Aria’s friends and has been a part of her family for years. She hasn’t had much of a family of her own since her father passed and her mother went into a deep depression and then became ill. She has been caring for her mother for years and has never left the town she grew up in. She has been dating Evan off and on for years and he finally screwed up enough for her to end it for good. She shows up at Aria’s house for moral support, but gets it from someone she least expected to.

These two have known each other since childhood, but it was never even a consideration to cross the line. After a proposition he can’t refuse their relationship takes off. They are both wounded souls so to speak and they help each other overcome the dark. I enjoyed their journey and how their relationship evolved. It was inevitable that they would fall in love, but it still was a good read. I will say there were a few editing errors and I wanted more from the epilogue. ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is a steamy, emotional, sweet and romantic story. Cooper is an aloof, cocky and charming playboy who suffers from PTSD. Sophie is a strong, independent and vulnerable woman who's been taking care of her mother since she was 12. They've known each other for years because Cooper's sister is one of Sophie's best friends. When Sophie catches her boyfriend with his secretary she goes to Aria's house to cry on her shoulder, but she ends up crying on Cooper's shoulder instead. Afterwards Sophie decides that she needs to have a fling to get over her ex, and Coop is the perfect guy to have one with. Coop isn't as thrilled with the idea, he knows that if anyone found out about them they'd say that he took advantage her, so he politely declines the offer. Then a week later, after he has thought of nothing but Sophie, and her being with another man, that he tells her that he changed his mind. So they embark on a two week fling. But it turns out that both start having feelings, and both realize that their actions in their other relationships left a lot to be desired. Both of their issues are heartbreaking, and both are strong, brave and determined to change their future actions. I loved the storyline and the characters.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Booksprout and I am voluntarily reviewing it.

This was a wonderful story. Sophie Delaware comes upon her boyfriend with his secretary. She goes to her friend's house for comfort but she isn't home but her brother is. Cooper Simons is a former military man who suffers from PTSD. His friend passed away in his arms. He is a player that only dates women for a short period of time but never sleeps "sleeps" with them. He has nightly nightmares of the day of the bomb blast that killed his friend. Sophie comes to the conclusion that she just wants a fling after suffering her heartbreak. What better man to suggest it to than Cooper.

I really felt for both of these characters. Getting a glimpse into both of their POV really helped to make their individual concerns and fears known to the reader. I did appreciate the author not dragging out some of the fears that Sophie had. Both characters really did have a great rapport. You could really see a connection between the two of them. The story flowed nicely and before I knew it, it was over.

There were some minor sexy scenes that were well written and shouldn't offend anyone. This wasn't erotica by any means. I highly recommend this to anyone over 18.

Sophie Delaware still lives on the property that she grew up in. She had never left her home town because she had to take care of her mother who had been diagnosed with M.S.. she thought her relationship with her boyfriend was improving, when she catches him with his secretary. She breaks up with him but feels lonely. Then she gets an idea to have a no-strings-attached fling with her best friend’s older brother.

This is a small town, contemporary romance set in New Zealand. The characters are engaging, with well developed complex personalities. Right from the beginning you want to have they successful in their quest for happiness, even if they do not know it is together that that will happen. Their relationship is rocky due to dealing with past experiences, insecurities, commitment issues and secrecy. The writer takes you along for the ride as they experience the character’s emotional ups and downs. This is a hot, steamy romance with some sexually explicit scenes. The author expertly wove the intimate scenes into the storyline in such as way as to progress the story and further develop the characters. If you enjoy hot steamy contemporary romances then you will enjoy this book.

Falling for the Veteran is very well written with characters who drew me into their story. Cooper is a veteran with PTSD from serving in the Middle East, which he seems to handle with frequent meaningless hook ups. Sophie, best friend to his sister, has just walked in on her boyfriend and his secretary in a compromising position when she encounters Cooper on his sister's porch. While they have been around each other for most of their lives, they really don't know each other. Knowing that Cooper never gets involved with the women he dates, Sophie proposes a short term fling - which Cooper eventually accepts. The sex is hot, and as Cooper gets to know Sophie, he finds himself becoming emotionally invested in the relationship and admiring the person Sophie has become. Sophie is afraid to get in too deep with Cooper as she is certain he will move on. It is interesting to see how the author moves each of them out of their comfort zone and toward Happily ever after. I thoroughly enjoyed the story.

An emotional second chance romance.💞💖💞

Sophie just can't believe her life. The one thing she can't forgive is a cheater and yet that's what she catches her boyfriend doing. So, when she heads over to her friends' house for some girl talk she wasn't expecting to run into Cooper instead. She's had a thing for Cooper since they were kids but never did anything about it because he's her best friend's brother. How bad could that be, right? But Cooper is recovering from the military and doesn't "do" relationships and that sounds just fine for Sophie right now. Too bad feelings always come into play, huh? 💗🔥💕

There is so much going on in this one but it's easy to follow and it all gets dealt with by the end. But be prepared for an emotional ride and fair warning? You probably will need a couple of tissues... I did. 😍

This is the second book in the Little Sky Romance but can be read as a standalone.😉❣️

Sophie and Cooper are such a cute couple. I liked how the author deals with the issue of PTSD and gives us an insight into the varying forms this traumatic disorder can take. She also introduces readers to the debilitating disease of MS (multiple sclerosis) in a somewhat less informed manner. I will not nit-pick but having been living as a victim of this disease for the last 13 years, there are a number of obvious discrepancies that I noticed right away. This does not take away from the story though. I still applaud Ms. Rivers for featuring a disease that is not well-known or understood by the public. Thank you for bringing both ailments to the forefront in this book. Looking forward to Avery and Gareth getting their story told next.

Betrayed by her boyfriend’s philandering, Sophie goes to her best friend Aria for comfort, but runs into Aria’s brother Cooper instead. Haunted by nightmares, veteran Cooper never spends the night with a woman. So, Sophie persuades him to overcome his qualms about her being his sister’s friend and they embark on a no-strings two-week fling. Except that they fall in love. The characters in this book are its strongest point, which is saying a lot because the story and the heat are pretty good too. Aria’s family is fantastic, and Sophie’s mom becomes increasingly vivid as the story progresses. The end crisis is a perfect way to force Sophie and Cooper to think clearly.

This is a sweet semi friends to lovers story.
Sophie has been hurt by life/love many times and is looking to rebound with hunky playboy/her friend’s brother Cooper.
He has his own baggage and hides his feeling with his playboy reputation.

This is a pretty short read at just 200 pages, so we don’t get super deep dives into who Sophie and Cooper are as individuals or as a couple. What I did see, I enjoyed and really would have liked to see more. Both characters had some emotional evolution, but we saw the aftermath more than the process.

This is story that is obviously part of a series, but works as a stand-alone. While I enjoyed this book, it wasn’t quiet enough to make me rush out and buy the first book in the series.

Sophie's life is the pits she has just caught her cheating boyfriend and she is caring for her mother with multiple sclerosis needing a shoulder to cry on she heads to her best friend Aria hoping to find a shoulder to cry on. What she actually finds is Aria's brother Cooper a returned serviceman who has his own battles to fight with PTSD. He has a reputation as a love and leave them kind of guy and Sophia thinks maybe that is what she needs so they embark on a two week no strings attached affair. What will happen when their feelings for one another grow, can she help him with his PTSD will she be a calming affect on him You need to see if they will in fact get a HEA

A new author for me and one I would be happy to read again. I enjoyed the family and friends connections, the likeable and developed characters. There was also an honesty in the way people make assumptions and judge people - consciously and unconsciously. I liked some of the role reversals in the story and I believed in the connection between Cooper and Sophie. I personally would have liked to have found out what decisions were made with regards to Antonia.

Another sweet and spicy lovestory

Adorable. Love these characters so much. Flawed inasmuch as they are damaged and emotionally injured, but not stupid humans. They and their friends and family actually make great strides towards healing each other's emotional traumas and beginning to build a new life.

PG13 for sexual content, mild language. Discussions about violence in the characters past, but very mild on screen violence. Themes include PTSD, infidelity, injury and death in the line of duty, casual sex.

Sophie decides to use Cooper, who is known for loving and leaving women as a fling to help her getting over her cheating ex. They start to see sides of each other, his PTSD and her caring for a bedridden mother with MS and start to want more than just a good time. But she has trouble trusting men and he has his own insecurities to deal with. There was plenty of humor and romance. It was great to catch up with Aria and Eli from the previous book.

She has no need for anymore long term relationship since she dumped her cheating ex. All she wants now is a friend with benefits so when her best friend brother appears, he seems ideal. They start it as he feels the same about a long term relationship. Will they be able to give each other up? See if it will become a long term relationship

Another great Itirangi romance.

I've looked forward to Cooper's story since we first met in book 1. 😁 Sophie and Coop didn't disappoint!

I love Alexa Rivers' ability to craft her words and draw you immediately into her stories. This book was no different. The depth of her characters is satisfying, and their interactions with family, friends, and each other is realistic, messy, and heartfelt.

Looking forward to the next book! 😊

Sophie is one of Aria’s best friends and she has just broken up with her long-time boyfriend. Now, she is looking for a fun fling, and Aria’s brother Cooper can provide that for her. Cooper is a lady’s man who has trouble sleeping at night because of PTSD. He goes through women very fast and never sleeps with them…as in sleeping. When he hooks up with Sophie, everything changes. But will he be able to overcome all the self-doubts and past to give them the chance at a HEA?

They both have issues with relationships but for different reasons. After she catches her boyfriend in a compromising position, Sophie has given up on men. Cooper has PTSD and it hinders him from being in a relationship with women but being with Sophie has him thinking forever! Can these two put aside their past and work towards the future of being in it for the long haul?
