A 5-step process for implementing a People First philosophy in your organization, where caring, connected leaders create loyalty, ownership, value, and excellence.
In the hospitality space, Three and Jackie Carpenter know full well the importance of leading teams who are loyal, engaged, and happy. Working in an industry where customer expectations are at an extreme, Three and Jackie have applied a mindset of treating employees like customers. They’ve developed a 5-step roadmap to creating positive employee experiences and company cultures where connection is the crux of the team’s success. People First will teach you how to support, coach, and develop employees at every phase of the employee lifecycle—unleashing people’s potential, sparking passion, and igniting purpose in a way that brings about amazing results for your organization.
I won this book in a giveaway. I was interested in this book because it sounded very close to a framework I am developing. This book was centered on the hospitality industry, but its steps can be used by any company wishing to improve their culture and their business. People First is a great roadmap for how to value your employees in a very authentic and comprehensive way. The ideas are backed by others who have succeeded with the same concepts. The steps are detailed and easy to understand. Not necessarily easy to implement as this is a total paradigm shift from the way we treat employees today. I especially liked that the treatment was for all employees, not just professionals but everyone in the organization. Everyone has value in an organization and recognizing that can make your organization a place people want to work.
This book will remain on my shelf as a reference for years. It has a wealth of ideas, and several will find their way into my framework (with attribution, of course!). I've filled the margins with notes and highlighted a lot of text. I think this should be a must-read for all business owners.
I listened to the audiobook version, but as soon as I finished I had to order the hardcover version. It was that good. I am a career coordinator for a local high school and was looking for ways to better help connect students to careers - that Human Connection the Carpenters write about. The 5 Steps that they write about however inspired more. And that's their skills - to inspire those around them and now goes further with the book.
