While there were several things I liked about this, there were also 3 things that really bothered me.
- The inner monologue went on and on and on and on. It was quite ridiculous. Like, they were in the middle of a conversation and we got one sentence and then had 5 pages of inner musing before we got to back to the conversation again. I often couldn’t follow what they were saying because of that. Because both of them did this constantly. I also remember this happening during sex. Gage was thinking he was almost coming and 4 pages later that still hadn’t happened, because he needed those 4 pages to think about how wonderful Noah was.
- The sex. OMG, so much sex. These guys didn’t really do anything else besides have sex.
- They lived in a bubble. Now, I like it when my characters are trapped in a remote cabin in the middle of a snowstorm and are therefor cut off from the rest of the world. But not when the characters are two college guys with an active college life. In the beginning they were at a party where Gage won Noah with a game of poker, and we had some other people interacting with them. But for the rest of the book, it was like no one and nothing else existed. Gage and Noah were only ever in their dorm room together.
What I did like was mostly Gage’s total dedication to Noah, even when they were just best friends, and definitely when they were boyfriends. And the total lack of a gay freak-out.
This book was also very long, but I can sum up what happened like this (a bit spoilerish):
- Straight college guy Gage wins best friend Noah in a poker game.
- They have (no penetrative) sex while Noah is drunk off his ass.
- Gage decides Noah is his now, and always has been when he thinks about it.
- They have lots of sex and play out the master and slave fantasy some more.
- Noah’s parents wants him to move back home.
- Gage comes up with a study plan for Noah so his grades go up and that doesn’t happen.
- HEA.

Wow.... my initial impression after just finishing this story is I am in awe of the intricate ability Chara Croft has with weaving together a complex story that appears simple but morphs into a beautiful transformation of a relationship.
One of my favorite aspects of this story is the endearing and caring relationship between both main characters. Their relationship is close before the start of the story, but it quickly becomes inexplicably intertwined. Their relationship naturally transforms throughout the course of the story and I enjoyed watching their dynamics change as their feelings deepen.
I particularly loved how their specific form of love was depicted, which verged on possessiveness, codependency, and enmeshment. If you enjoy reading friends to lovers meets GFY with a twinge of possessiveness than this is a fun story to totally sink your teeth into.

Okay, so that was a whole lot hotter than I was expecting 🔥🔥🔥
Adorable little Noah, with his unwavering adoration for Gage, even before things were taken to a sexual level.
Gage being so super protective and sweet to Noah (even if Noah was literally the only person he's sweet to)... The fact that even when they were just friends he referred to Noah as "my boy"... always saw it as simple fact that Noah was perfect... thought about how Noah's eyes were pettier than the hot girl vying for his attention. Again, all before it became sexual.
....but then it got there fast.... and stayed there.

HOLY FREAKING HELL THIS WAS SOME HOT BOOK!
The wait for this book was soooo worth it. It was sweet, hot, filthy, sexy, romantic and everything in between.
Noah and Gage are so right for each other. It only took a drunken night to steer them in the right direction.

Noah: Sweet, Clueless subby Noah was such a treat to read about. His responsiveness, blabbing. ADHD and nervousness all made for an adorable character. A character you can’t help but go “AWWWWW” all of the f@cking time. The way he became so utterly enamored with Gage, the way he submitted so fully for him, was simultaneously sweet and sexy. #LetMeSurrender
Gage: The player didn’t know what hit him once Noah won that game… His “snake” certainly knew what he was supposed to be doing before his mind did…Thankfully they agreed to the curse of action pretty quickly. Gage doted on Noah, did anything and everything for him, took care of him and loved him in all ways except one. That was until that night when everything changed. #LovingYouIsMyJob
-The Plot:
It is all about Gage and Noah being together, their relationship progressing, Gage helping and Noah submitting. Noah’s parents were jerks and Gage helps him stand up to them and be better with planning his life. Gage was his Daddy. His Dom, his Best Friend and his Boyfriend all in one. I loved the progression… weeks pass between each breakthrough they have with each other. They move gradually as well, not diving into anal which I appreciated. #ThisIsUs
- The Romance:
Best friends to lovers trope. They knew each other all their life and they were both each other’s rock to lean on. Even sweet Noah was there for Gage in everything that mattered. I felt like their relationship was already established in all its aspect except for the physical one which came in full force later on. Gage was all ‘baby” and “Sweetheart” and “Mine” and Noah was all “Yes” and “Yours” and “Please”. #InsertSwoonEmojiHere
-The Heat:

WeW! Chara Croftsure knows how to write a good book! Amazing how she can write all sorts of stories, each better than the last. Anything Goes is the story of Gage and Noah, best friends, roommates. One night of Poker and fun, and everything changes. What I really enjoyed here is that even though the kink is very light - and not heavy on the angst at all - the chemistry between the guys is there right from the first scenes, and I just couldn’t stop reading. They complete each other, more ways than I can count, and that’s what makes this here even better. I was really excited about this release, and I’m really happy with the result! Chara is one of my favorite authors and I’ll definitely check more from her work in the future.

1.5 stars. This was quite possibly the dumbest book I've read all year. The premise was promising - college roommates experimenting with D/s stuff. I can get down with that. But actually, it was such a schlep to read and all the characters were pretty unlikeable. Genuinely upset by the full-on misogyny of one of the MCs, like he could have been a lady's man without making him a gross frat-boy type caricature. I know this is M/M romance but why do some authors insist on treating female characters with such disdain? Then there's the writing itself - it was 90% tell, 10% show. There was just endless babbling, repetitive internal monologue. I honestly had to skim some of it because it was literally the same few things repeated again and again. I became very good at spotting quotation marks, although even the dialogue was tired. It could have been so hot and fun if we weren't actually inside these guys' heads, but unfortunately, their perspectives were terrible.

Well, I'm sorry, I seem to be one of the few who didn't like it. DNF. While it was hot as fuck, the whole thing was unlikely and the extreme in the Sub/Dom character was laughable at most. I couldn't get into the story as it made my eyes roll repeatedly. One of the character was so cocky about his fat cock that I was metaphorically slapping him behind the head.

Ugh I’m definitely in the minority here but I could not get through this. It felt like the same thing over and over again and basically just a constant stream of Noah being a mess and gage being overly cocky about about his dick. Like yeah we get it you have an anaconda in your pants let’s move along. It’s a shame because I usually love this author but after skimming through ridiculously long internal musings over and over and disjointed thought processes I had to put it on the DNF list.

omg the writing is so irritating and convoluted and annoying…..so bad that i was maybe 30% in and i was like i’m never reading another book by this author…..i just wanna know why why why was there so much unnecessary fucking inner monologuing PLS!!!!!!!! omg it went on and on and on, i almost lost it….it made all the smut BORING because it just dragged on and on and on……also the smut scenes were just seriously too long and i’d never thought i’d say that but fuck ! noah would b like omg i’m gonna cum i can’t hold back much longer and then 20 (!!!!!) fucking pages later i’m STILL reading noah think about how he can’t hold back much longer😵💫🥴 and i’ve NEVER read a main character i’ve wanted to strangle more than noah jesus fucking christ ! the man was jumping to conclusions in outer space and blubbering like a toddler at all times……his inner monologue alone took 10 years off my life…..so much book space wasted on words that i’m wondering why the author felt was even necessary to include……it was so repetitive and also just like why tf am i even reading about this….like there was a whole chapter of noah trying and failing to study and instead just overthinking and it was SO LONG like reading it felt like i was being held at gunpoint !!!! i was like and the point of this chapter was…. ?????? seriously 50% of the words in this book could be taken out and you’d still be reading the same book but it’d just feel less like pulling teeth……it would be inhumane torture to make me open this book back up, i’d rather get waterboarded by fermented piss

This book, in a way, reminded me of early MM romance that I used to read back in the early 2000's - when there is ONLY straight OR gay (did either of these boys think that maybe one or both of them are BISEXUAL?!) and there's a lot of resistance to putting a label on anything.
I also thought that things really, really dragged on in this one. When they were together, there were some very hot moments, and I enjoyed a lot of it, but when they started internally debating over everything and thinking/worrying over everything, that's when I started to skim and skip ahead.
I enjoy this author and they can write a steamy scene, but I wish it had been a bit more open to discussing sexuality as more fluid than just gay vs straight, and a bit less bro/no-homo feels?

Oh my myyyyy, this book was HOT AF. I always love reading anything from Chara but I swear I was about to catch on fire from some of the scenes in this book. Holy shit.
Okay, so Noah and Gage have been best friends since the first grade. This is their first year at college and they’re roomies. The book opens up with a super drunk Noah and Gage playing poker with a bunch of other college buddies. A collar ends up being thrown in the pot and whoever loses gets to be the winner’s slave for the night. Gage wins, Noah is the slave... and Gage doesn’t really plan to take it anywhere but Noah has other ideas. He wants to be Gage’s slave and thinks he’ll be the best damn slave ever. They get a little closer than best friends that night and ohhhh man is it sexy. 😉
I’ll also be honest - I’m normally not into the whole calling someone “Master” or “slave” but omg did this whole dynamic just work for me in this book. Plus I got so excited that first time Gage referred to himself as Daddy. Fuck yes. I was all for that.
The rest of the book deals with some drama with Noah’s parents, his grades aren’t so hot, and he starts kinda freaking out about where his and Gage’s relationship is going after they started messing around.
Except Gage is fucking perfect. He reassures Noah every single time he freaks out about whatever it is at the moment, he takes care of him, he gives him every damn thing he needs and he enjoys doing it. It was seriously so heartwarming to me to read about. I could FEEL the love between them but it kinda hit me in the feels even more so for Gage. I didn’t like his manwhore-ing ways so I was kinda meh about him at first... but I completely turned my opinion around because he was just so there for Noah. And he never once freaked out about liking another guy, doing things to another guy, admitting he and Noah were boyfriends, just being fully committed to him right after that first night. All he wanted to do was make Noah happy. Siiiiiigh, it just made my heart flutter with all the happy emotions.
And the first time that they kissed? I’d been waaaaaiting for it to happen so when it finally did I was jumping up and down, squealing with happiness. Yeah, they did other sexual things before that but kissing felt even more intimate, like it was a for-real sort of thing... a forever thing.
Overall, I reeeeeally enjoyed this book and I’m so grateful that I got to read an advanced copy. It took me a few chapters to get fully invested but as soon as I was, I was IN IT and devouring each page. The epilogue seriously made me tear up. I absolutely love Gage and Noah and they are so perfect for each other. I hope one day we might get a bonus novella or something because they are just that special of a couple that I don’t wanna say goodbye to them. 😭😭

Okay, so Noah and Gage have been best friends since the first grade. This is their first year at college and they’re roomies. The book opens up with a super drunk Noah and Gage playing poker with a bunch of other college buddies. A collar ends up being thrown in the pot and whoever loses gets to be the winner’s slave for the night. Gage wins, Noah is the slave... and Gage doesn’t really plan to take it anywhere but Noah has other ideas. He wants to be Gage’s slave and thinks he’ll be the best damn slave ever. They get a little closer than best friends that night and ohhhh man is it sexy. 😉
I’ll also be honest - I’m normally not into the whole calling someone “Master” or “slave” but omg did this whole dynamic just work for me in this book. This book was beautifully filthy and the sweetest thing ever! Gage and Noah have been besties since first grade when Noah claimed Gage as his best friend. Since that day, Gage had done everything in his power to always look out for Noah. A drunken poker game takes their friendship in an interesting direction when a slave collar ends up around Noah's neck, and Gage is his proud owner for the duration. Gage is fully prepared to let Noah off the hook, but is pleasantly surprised when Noah embraces the collar and is prepared to do whatever would please his Master. When Gage sees how serious Noah is about doing WHATEVER Gage wants, the hotness factor of their situation goes nuclear! I loved how Gage always puts Noah first in his life....in ALL things. No matter what. And Noah is the most precious thing, EVER! The way he worships Gage is so pure and beautiful...he just adores him so much. The way their relationship progressed was so natural and almost sacred. Noah and Gage melted my heart as their passion burned. This book was everything!

I forced myself to finish, honestly it overloaded me on smut. Like there isn’t really any plot. The smut goes pages long and in every chapter basically. Good smut tho
Noah annoyed me, yes he has adhd but he was go into these rambles that never stopped so when it was in his pov it would jump around constantly and you wouldn’t know what he was originally trying to say until pages later.
The phrase “thank you very much” was said 17 times. I counted it. It grated on me

I am a huge fan of OTT possessive/needy trope and no one does it better then Chara Croft. Noah is our sweet needy babbling brook of a cinnamon roll who has been in love with his BFF since first grade Gage. Gage had no clue and has spent his life protecting and being the best friend to Noah possible but sleeping around with only girls until a poker game changes the stakes and the rules! Suddenly Noah is Gages slave and willing to do ANYTHING Gage wants or needs, Gage never thought of it before but once the blinders are off anything really does go in this steamy and filthy as fawk story! Both are freshman in college when this story starts but we get a perfect epilogue at the end that shows us how swoony our boys are together even four years later. DNF’d at 82% it’s not the endless pages of sexy times, this book had so much potential. The storyline was super sweet But the repetitiveness of the writing was taxing. Both mc’s couldn’t be THAT clueless, can they?

There's nothing I love more in my books than seriously needy characters and the men who take care of them - totally and completely (which, in turn, absolutely fills them up too).
Noah is beautifully needy and his best friend Gage has always been there for him. After a drunken poker night, Gage learns how to be there for Noah in all new ways and the discoveries and exploration is as fun as it is filthy.
Chara writes in such a way that the words come to life in your head like a personal dialogue. The pages turn themselves and the characters become part of you.
This book has lots of bits for all us needy smut readers, such as size difference, best friends to lovers, virgin MC, College setting, generous endowments, power exchange and such pure emotions that you won't be able to help falling in love with Noah and Gage!

August 11, 2023I should have DNF’d. Way too much inner dialogue, the bro-y language became annoying fairly quickly, and I’ll be happy if I never have to read the word “parentals” again. The smut was fun and the the master/slave concept was interesting but overall it just didn’t work for me and I skimmed a lot.

January 30, 2024I had to momentarily DNF this because the MCs are exhibiting criminally horny behavior and while I can get behind that sometimes, I'm currently in the mood for something slow burn.
Also, everything in this book is a superlative and once I started noticing it, I couldn't stop.
"It was beautiful. Gage had beautiful eyebrows. The beautifulest."
"You’re amazing,” I breathed out, wishing my mouth was working better so I could also say how lucky I was that I was best friends with such amazing amazingness."
“You’re… You’re the best, Gage.”
"......the intense way he was suddenly looking at me made my whole body buzz with… with the intensely intense intensity of the weird look he was giving me." Four times, guys. FOUR.
"I ignored it, intensifying my glare instead, because I was so, so not going to be distracted by all his… his mesmerizing amazing Gage-ness."
Then there's the disorienting use of the word snake for the dick.
"The snake flexed."
I miss the words for dick which I used to think I hated.
Manroot. Cockstand. Where art thou? I don't know if this is because snakes freak me out but I really hate this choice 😭

Gage and Noah are best friends with Gage being protective and possessive and Noah being needy and adoring. Gage never considered anything sexual between them and Noah never hoped for more. And then one poker night changes things and now they are also Master and Slave, caring daddy and his good yet filthy boy. But it's not just about insanely hot sex, it's about loving someone and giving them exactly what they need. Noah might be the one to wear a collar but he is also the one to completely own Gage's heart.
The story is entirely focused on Gage and Noah, at times it felt like they exist in their own bubble. I missed them interacting with others as a couple. Also, Gage's dismissive attitude towards anybody but Noah was too much at times.
Babbling Noah was the most adorable, loving kisses Gage - the most sweet. I also appreciated Gage veryfying Noah's consent and making sure nothing truly hurts him.
