Cancel culture and political correctness are destroying free speech and Western civilisation’s institutions and way of life – it’s time to fight back and return to sanity. A topical and informative anthology exploring the origins and impact of cancel culture and political correctness on Western societies – including schools, universities, political and legal systems, the church, family, the media and intermediary organisations such as trade unions and professional bodies.
Especially as a result of the Black Lives Matter movement and the impact of political correctness not a week goes by without public controversy and debate. Destroying statues, re-writing history, re-naming Coon cheese, promoting gender fluidity in schools, opposing the establishment of the Ramsay Centre for the study of Western civilisation, attacking free speech and seeking to intimidate and silence those who don’t subscribe to Woke orthodoxy are recent examples of cancel culture and political correctness in action.
To date the public debate has been dominated by the cultural-left. In way of response this anthology will detail the nature and origins of the culture wars, provide real-world examples and detail how prevalent and dangerous cultural-left ideology and cancel culture are. The anthology concludes by positively exploring the best way forward in order to foster reason and balance instead of politically correct ideology and group think.
Kevin Donnelly is an Australian educator, author and commentator. He is Senior Research Fellow at the Australian Catholic University and the director of the Education Standards Institute.
A well crafted book, the essays are expertly organised so the themes of each merge into the next. Covers a variety of topics relevant to the political debates of today, including how cancel culture started, critical race theory in schools, the debate on teaching western history in schools and gender issues. Well worth a read if your interested in the history of how cancel culture has manifested itself in Australia.
A pretty good read if one wants to know about the pretty horrible direction our western world seems to be heading. Australia is certainly today not the free, easy-going country of self-reliant individuals mostly free from government interference that I grew up in. Today it is a whinging, lynch mob and dobbing society where governments follow the trends set by the way-out idiots on the far left while the general population seems so apathetic that one day they might wake up and find their freedoms just don't exist anymore. If you are willing to persist this book might awaken you to the country's plight. (I'm glad I have lived my long life in a free Australia and not the one we have now.)
"Dr" Kevin Donnelly is back, having yet another whinge about losing the anti-gay Australia he grew up with, this time using the guise of cancel culture to repackage his bigotry. But he isn't alone. He has brought along some friends of his to help push his narrative: Failed Prime Minister Tony Abbott, narcissistic pseudo-expert Anthony Dillon, plus a whole bunch of other names that I've never of. And all together, they have created a piece of reactionary trite full of cherrypicked information and weak arguments, topped off with a nice big helping of hypocrisy. (Nothing like being lectured about cancel culture by a book that includes a member of the party that's trying to silence FriendlyJordies, and a so-called academic campaigning to have Dark Emu banned from schools and bookshops for not saying what he wants to hear.) If you're a fan of Murdoch puppets with no self-awareness pretending to be freedom fighters, then this is the book for you. However, if you're looking for an insightful and factual read, then you won't find it here. Judging by those who have given it positive reviews, it seems that the only way to find substance in this rubbish is to live in a right-wing echo chamber.
This is a really interesting book if you want to understand the extent to which radical Marxist ideas have infiltrated many areas in our lives in Australia.
The book consists of a series of well compile essays from experts in their field. Topics include educational institutions, teaching of history, COVID-19, law, religion, climate change and gender fluidity.
This was a very interesting book to read, learning a lot about why our society is now so very chaotic. This anthology of essays about cancel culture explored all the issues and history of how cancel culture came to appear in the main institutions of Australia, and the rest of the western world. Yet, it gives the reader hope. Also, telling us how to fight back.
Thus, this is a book for anyone who wants to understand how cancel culture and political correctness is causing problems for society, and the ways to stand up to them and there waking ways.
A brilliant and comprehensive overview of the constant, steady, relentless push by woke ideology into our University and teaching spaces around the country. Great for helping folk stand firm against it and recognise its intensity.
