This is great as both a successor read (to anyone who has already read about Awadh; and its politico- socio-cultural history) as well as a beginner read. The essays are written in simple language without much jargon which makes it a well thought-out creation as the issues dealt within aren't that simple. My favorite chapters were those which highlighted the religious and educational nuances of the region in past.
