She had longed for a taste of the wild and reckless. And Olivia Jeffries got her chance when she met a handsome stranger at a masquerade ball. The attraction was instant, the electricity ... volatile. But days later she discovered her new lover was none other than Reginald Westmoreland, her father's most-hated rival. She vowed to resist him further, but Reggie was relentless in his pursuit. He would stop at nothing--not even blackmail--to get Olivia back in his bed. Talk about sleeping with the enemy!

Oh, those Westmorelands!!! A boring masquerade ball turns into a hot affair! Only in Ms Jackson's world! This steamy novel, unites Olivia Jefferies and Reggie Westmoreland (of the Atlanta Westmorelands). Olivia's fine brothers, Duane and Terrence, who are introduced and or dealt with in other Jackson novels, are also woven in this story.
Although I am not as adventurous, Oliva's spontaneity in this story is to be admired --- you have to hand it to that sista! What began as a one night fling with an unknown subject, evolved into an amazing love affair despite external variables (as only Ms Jackson can inject).
Olivia or Libby as she is called is summoned home to help with her Dad's campaign. Soon she learns that his opponent is more than just another candidate in the race for Senator. Unlike other Westmorelands, Reggie isn't as resistant to the inevitable. It is Libby who takes a little longer to see the writing on the wall.
Not as much intrigue in this novel as in other Jackson tales, but primarily a love story that moves pretty quickly.
4 stars. I adored this one so much. It’s a crossover between Jackson’s 'Jeffries' series and 'The Westmorelands' and it was well done and well balanced. I loved the characters so much. Olivia and Reggie had crazy chemistry and I thought they were perfect for each other. I liked that they met at a masquerade ball and had a one night stand and kept their identities hidden. I also liked that Olivia was the daughter of the man that Reggie was running against for Senator. It was all very intriguing. They had to sneak around and keep their relationship on the low. I loved that Reggie didn’t care that he was running against father and just wanted to be with Olivia. It was sweet. The ending was cute and left me smiling. I just really love these books.
Don't know how I missed this one. Or it's possible I just don't remember it. I read a collection it should have been in years ago.
I listened to the audiobook. The narration was good. The story was ok. It was a really quick read/listen. The bit of suspense in the story fell flat when creepy guy blurted out the truth.
The story was pretty predictable, and after that, it became even more predictable. Although I was surprised by how fast Jeffries flipped the script on everyone. It was an ok read with an inevitable HEA.
This came my way as a bonus story in “State Secrets” by Linda Lael Miller. I hadn’t previously read any of the Westmoreland novels. Despite that, this novel was very enjoyable - I didn’t feel “lost” without previous knowledge of their world. I especially liked how the characters handled their life issues in realistic, yet still entertaining (to read about) ways. I think I need to check out more of this series.
I have become a fan of this author. I have begun to read about the Steele family and cannot wait to learn more about the Westmorelands. The intriguing and fascinating of the stories than she crafts causes me to want to read more of her works. She always includes one out of character action like the senator being punched by an unlikely character.
L have read every book, MS Jackson has written. She doesn't disappoint. Her novels are some easy to read, has a great plot and real. She has a way with words that I love. Her stories just capture your imagination. She can write with words that pull you in.
Nice to get back into the Westmorelands; didn't disappoint! Thankfully these are relatively stand alone as I'm pretty hazy on who all the support characters are now. Loving the HEA!! got a little 'Caveman' at random points so couldn't put it as 5 stars, but still nice all the same
This is the story of love at first site for Reggie Westmorland and Olivia Jefferies. There is a lot of spice and innocence. They keep their relationship under wraps until they were ready to reveal it to the world.
This was a short and sweet book. Reggie and Olivia met at a masked ball and spent one amazing night together only to meet again a few days later and find out that he is her dad's political opponent. That didn't stop their feelings from growing. I really enjoyed this book.
I have always enjoyed Mrs “Js” books, the Westmorelands are one of my favorite families to read about. The senator, the baby of family was a very special story to enjoy reading for me. Thanks again Mrs “J”.
The beginning was unrealistic but once the masquerade ball is over and the main characters actually know each other's identity, things get interesting!
Typical Westmoreland novel. Giving it only 4 stars because it was so short. Although we did get to see some of the romance develop between Reggie and Olivia the plot was an after thought.
This book was a bonus on an audiobook from Linda Lael Miller's State Secrets. And it was a pleasure to listen to it. Politics and romance, what more can you ask for.
I'm just as hooked on The Westmoreland's like I am with The Madaris family series,. Another good read Now I can't wait to read the Denver Westmoreland's
Loved it, wish it was longer but Brenda Jackson never disappoints. The intensity of their love was fire had me anticipating how they would make it work.
This story made me think of a Cinderella fairytale; the lost earring and the woman he must find that they belong to. Reggie Westmoreland and Olivia Jeffries meet at a masquerade fundraiser ball, which lead to a one-night affair. Still not knowing each other because they kept their identity concealed. However, they eventually find out at a political campaign where Reggie and Olivia’s father are running against each other for Senate. This story was a quick and to the point love story. Reggie says, “love at first sight”, I call it lust at first…., all I can say is Reggie was whipped. When he said, “we are in a relationship”, I was like what relationship? Even Olivia said it. After one night this man has claimed his woman. It was a good read and interesting. A few twists and turns that did not take away from their love story. This book is one of those stories you read when you just want to read something quick, smooth, and seductive. I think that it could have been more to this story, none the less, I enjoyed this book. I give it a 4 out of 5-star rating.
My choice of characters: • Alvester Martin as Reginald Westmoreland • Jordyn Woods as Olivia Jeffries
