Technically I haven't finished "reading" the book but I have worked through about 75% of the music pages.

In January, I didn't know how to play the ukulele at all (or any instruments). Now it's April and I'm a semi-pro ukulele player! Cough cough, well, really, just more able to play around with a ukulele with some confidence.

The book forced me play the ukulele.. just to play it and struggle through the tabs and building finger strength. No theory. No BS. Just play. Just practice. Just do it. Eventually my fingers developed muscles and remembered where each string was.

This inexpensive book has been a launching pad for me to explore the process of learning how to play an instrument. He doesn't offer too much 'advanced' advice in the book since it just has some very basic songs that allow your fingers to get run up and down your uke. I now spend more of my time just jamming along to other notes I'm slowly starting to find.

If you are new to the uke (or playing instruments in general), approach this book with willingness, patience and enthusiasm. You won't become a musician overnight but with practicing the tunes in this book and just jamming out, you can become proficient at the basics.

I have also looked at the 'Uke for Dummies' book but that book was a little bit over my head for where I was at the time. This book offers a simpler approach. While it does not explain certain things it does give you an opportunity to feel like you're exploring the instrument on your own and that you can be in control of your uke destiny.
