Ménage et trois! It's been 40 years since John Sullivan's Only Fools and Horses first graced our television screens. In this new official guide, packed full of rare and never-before-seen photographs, Mike Jones and Jim Sullivan - son of John and co-writer of the hit West End show Only Fools and Horses the Musical - chart the creation and evolution of the nation's favourite comedy series. Including behind-the-scenes info and interviews with those who helped make the show a success, and more than a word or two from Del, Rodders and the rest of the Peckham faithful, here we take an episode-by-episode look at what made Only Fools and Horses work.
I am wiring this review despite only finishing the beginning part of the book. There is a lot of information which is wonderful to read as a huge Only Fools fan, but this book is more of a book to read whilst you’re watching the episodes as it describes what happens during each episode in chronological order with little tidbits and anecdotes thrown in. This edition even came in a Del Boy suitcase with polorised pictures seen in the opening credits and even a cut off piece of the wallpaper from one of the episodes ( a real piece used in the program! )
I saw this book in a bookshop recently and I decided to buy it, as I have been a huge OFAH fan for most of my life.
I certainly wasn't disappointed. This book is a literary treasure-trove of information on the series. It covers every episode of every series, including all of the Christmas Specials, in fantastic detail and with lots of superb photos, many of which I had never seen before. The book also includes interviews with cast and crew. I learned a lot of things that I didn't know before from this book, and it was a fascinating read.
I have bought (and read) lots of film and TV books during my lifetime, but this is one of the very best. As I said, it is a superb resource of information on OFAH and the making of it. I am so glad that I found this book, and so glad that I made the decision to buy it. It is a must for anyone interested in OFAH. Buy it now! I don't regret spending money or time on it and you won't, either.
A superb book, well-written and well-researched. It is, without doubt, the best book on the series that I have ever seen. Don't hesitate, buy it today! You'd be a "plonker" not to!!
Received as a Christmas gift, Lovely Jubbly and Cushty! what a book, a fantastic read! It gives a good recollection of the series from beginning to end and beyond with wonderful recounts from those involved on camera and behind the scenes. going over the series and what went into creating it. Also, it has a small laugh on the current affairs of the world that really fit with the characters and can't help but chuckle at. This book is a Winner!
I bought this book for my father last Christmas and finally decided to read it myself.
I like many others grew up watching only fools and loved it. Watching the Trotters get up to their antics was a highlight of any day I decided to watch the series.
Reading about the creation and depth of the show was something I thoroughly enjoyed. I really enjoyed the notes from characters that actually felt like the character had actually written them.
This is a wonderful book that every OFAH fan should have on their bookshelf. Packed full of great pictures and perfectly written details of how each and every episode was made with a nice modern context as well.
