The Legacy #4

Heart and Seek

Rate this book
Is their chance encounter a witchy second shot at love? Or just another score?

Ruby Donovan is a lot of things—paramedic, single mom, Legacy witch. The one title she never wanted? Senate heir. But that’s exactly what she’ll become unless she can find a loophole fast. It’s just her luck that the man who steps in to help her is the one who crushed her heart so many years ago. There’s no way she’ll give him a second chance to do that.

Treasure hunter Diego Benitas has no interest in witch politics. But he does have a significant interest in Ruby. He always has. Keeping her safe and helping her find what she’s looking for shouldn’t be too hard. Convincing her to let him into her heart again? That might be the toughest assignment he’s ever faced.

It’s not long before Ruby and Diego realize how much danger their search has stirred up—and just how much they need each other. With enemies closing in from all sides, can they survive long enough to find their way to happily ever after? Or will the odds keep them apart forever?

This is such a great book. I love, love, love Ruby and Diego's second chance relationship. Their chemistry and the angst and all of it is fabulous and off the charts and so good. Rose is probably one of the best written young children I've seen in a romance. She only adds and I love her powers and how she contributes to the world and mythology and the magic.

And let's talk about ALL of that because the way this story connects into the history with the FAMILY SECRETS (I am a massive sucker for family secrets) and evil relatives and surprises and it's so, so, so, good. After this you are completely begging for the next book because you NEED TO KNOW how it all works out and how it is all connected. I just love this book and this series so much, you like can't put it down. Totally recommend this one and the entire series, which I have gotten to read early and from the beginning since the author is a dear friend and the best.

Slow burn. Sacrifice. True love.

Ruby and Diego. These two...all the feels!
A pull and push between these two, made their passion even steamier! I love that there is history between them. It added more to their story and even more for them to lose. Everything was put on the line. One of the things I love about a Luna Joya book is that there’s a fantastic story along with those passionate moments between characters. I am fully invested in this series! These characters have become family. Secrets and lies are unraveled. Change coming and new possible future is ahead! There are some nail biting moments which had me at the edge of my seat.

It’s always hard to choose which book is my favorite when it comes to this series. I love all of them but this book just got me right there….you know. In the feels! A huge fan of Luna Joya;s writing as well as her storytelling. I can’t wait to see what she comes out with next! I give this 5 stars.

Legacy witch, paramedic and single Mum Ruby Donovan is also something that she never wanted and certainly didn't ask for - Senate Heir. Now she needs to find a loophole fast to get out of that - especially as the one man who has stepped in to help her is the man who crushed her heart years ago. Diego Benitas is a Treasure Hunter and is not interested in witch politics but he has (and always has had) an interest in Ruby. Surely helping her to find what she is looking for while keeping her safe should be easy for him. However, can he also convince her to let him into her heart again so they get a second chance? After all, she is all he has ever wanted or needed. In a short while, Ruby and Diego realise that their search has stirred up a lot of danger where they really do need each other. With their enemies closing in from all sides can they find their happily ever after or will the odds beat them and keep them apart again?

I loved this story where their orbits came back around at a better time so that they could make a success of what they always had. The world of magic was definitely on show here with Ruby who was an elemental witch and could use those skills as well as some standard ones, and Diego with his magical talent for finding things. I loved their relationship and how strong it was at the times when others were trying their best to force them apart. I also loved the way that Diego was so protective of Ruby's daughter and really did everything he could to make sure that she was safe even at the cost of his own life. Well written and easy to read and understand. It was definitely easy to feel as I was caught by another household member crying while reading this book. Contains some sexual content. Looking forward to the next story which sounds great.

The Legacy series continues in this fourth book. This is Ruby's and Diego's second chance story. Ruby, a Legacy witch and heir with a daughter and Diego, a treasure seeker, meet up years after their brief romance as young adults. As they battle politics and demons, they reconnect. This story is fast, exciting and hotly romantic with everything you have come to expect of this series. It is its own story with lots of connections to the past books and setting up well for the next book.

The Legacy Series is heating up! Joya delivers a perfect balance of action, romance, and mystery in this stellar fourth installment. Ruby and Diego bring top-notch stakes to the story as a second-chance couple who rediscover each other amidst the deepening dramas of witchy politics and intrigue. They have their hands full (literally and figuratively!) but can't seem to forget each other. It's masterful how their emotions rise to the surface, showing the potency of their desire and the power of an unforgettable, soul-stirring romantic connection.

Joya excels at balancing the different dimensions of the story so that each element harmonizes with the others in consort. Heart and Seek is sure to appeal to fans of paranormal romance tropes as well as readers who love sexy, second chance romance, single-parent MCs, and subplot goodness. There's something for everyone in this Spring must-read.

Thank you to the author and City Owl Press for supplying an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I am an unabashed romance lover in basically every format, however I’ve had a lot of misses in the paranormal realm, but Ms. Joya is an author I count on to give the deep, meaningful romance, panty melting sexy scenes, and heart stopping suspense with an absolutely stellar thread of magic. With every story I am equal parts impressed and jealous at the seamless way Ms. Joya weaves in paranormal elements into a realistic love story.

As any one who had followed my reviews for a long time knows, I adore broken characters, especially broken boys. That is a facet of story building that Ms. Joya excels at and I always make sure I have lots of warm blankets and fresh brownies to cuddle her characters closely.

In this story ups the broken by giving us Ruby. Okay, so listen. Being a single mother and a paramedic makes me immediately want to give her a big hug, but then we add in a backstory that legitimately ripped my heart out and… yeah, I was baking Ruby a fresh batch of brownies.

And then… we have Diego. Now, straight from the cover I was 100% #TeamDiego. That man is basically the definition of my type. Okay, maybe not so much the questionable ethics involved in his treasure hunter lifestyle/career, but the whole tall, dark, and mysteriously charming bit? Sign this girl up.

One of my favorite parts of Diego, however, was unrelated to his looks or facial hair (which is shocking because this girl loves her a well groomed beard), but his absolute devotion to Ruby, his deep desire to have a second chance with the girl he still loves (and oh my GOSH am I a sucker for that second chance romance story!), and his willingness to lay his life on the line for Ruby or her precious little girl Rose. And Oh. Emm. Gee. Rose is one of the most brilliantly written children I have read in romance in a long time. She has a fabulously engaging personality and sucks you right in.

However, none of these are my favorite character in Heart & Seek. That spot is reserved for Fen and if you read this story and do not love the precious little floofy fluff that is Fen, we will need to have a strongly worded conversation.

As with every Luna Joya story, there are scorching hot sex scenes and grippingly suspenseful moments that will, both, have you clinging to the edge of your seat… uncomfortably.

Even if you’re not typically a paranormal romance lover, I’d strongly recommend discovering Ms. Joya’s The Legacy series. Every book is fabulous in its own right, but you need to read in order to fully immerse yourself in the depth of planning Ms. Joya has put into mapping out this thrilling and enticing series.

Very intense story with fantastic world building and a second chance paranormal romance.

Full disclosure, I did not read the prior books in this series and the first part of the book took a significant amount of concentration and some re-reading to grasp the many characters and how they were related or associated. It was an immensely enjoyable read, and technically could be read as a standalone, but it definitely would be best reading from book 1.

Ruby and Diego’s relationship started 20+ years ago when they ran into each other as teenagers volunteering at a hospital. They were forced apart by circumstances and had a couple more brushes with each other while each served in the military. Ruby is now a mother to an adorable 2 year old daughter, and she is a paramedic using her healing powers to help people.

Diego is haunted by his past which includes the death of his sister and nephew, his battle with alcoholism and his heartache at losing Ruby years ago.

This storyline is full of intense drama, some twists and surprises before coming to a happy for now ending. It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger, but the over arcing story is left unfinished to be concluded in the next book. I am definitely planning to go back to book 1 and enjoy the series from the beginning.

I received an ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

Ruby Donavan is a paramedic, a single mom and an Elemental Witch. Her grandmothers are pushing her to become the Senate Heir, a role she never wanted. She's a confident, kick-ass, powerful witch, with power over the Earth and healing.

Diego Benitas was a Ranger now he's a treasure hunter, and a recovering Alcoholic. He lost his sister and nephew to fire at a young age and gave up the love of his life to protect his family. He's always been good at finding things, and people and he never stopped loving Ruby.

They met while working at a hospital volunteer program and quickly fell in love with each other, but were forced apart by the disapproving Senate.

Searching for the cauldron of rebirth, he and a legacy male get injured and Ruby is the paramedic that comes on the scene. He had to end things twenty years ago but forces keep bringing these two back together.

When Ruby and her daughter are threatened, he's steps in to watch over her and their old feelings resurface. She's not the only target and while they search for the cauldron and deal with Rose's emerging powers, they also have to fend off an enemy trying to kill them. These two fight side by side to keep those they love safe.

There's a lot of secrets being revealed and battles fought in this fourth installment of 'The Legacy' but it was no surprise who was behind all of the attacks. Diego and Ruby's second chance at love has many roadblocks and battles to overcome before they find their happily ever after.

I think this was my favorite book in the series and little Rose is adorable! I can't wait to find out how Joya wraps this series up in the next book.

“Heart and Seek (The Legacy Series, Book 4)” is a series about a family of young female witches (Sisters Ruby, Mina, Delia, and Cami) whose main magic is rooted within the elements. A governing body of older witches comprised mostly of witches descended from the Legacy clan is known as “The Senate”. The Senate has all the power even in matters of mating. There is a constant power struggle between old and new, strong magic and weak magic. When the two described entities are not fighting each other, they are then battling against the common enemy known as the Revelare (demons). Also, male born witches don’t have too much magical power. Their role is to procreate and protect.
With that said, Book 4 in the series focuses on second chance love between witch, Ruby Donovan Sorenson (who has the element of earth magic) and Diego Benitas, a male witch who is good at finding lost things and is currently looking for The Senate’s magic cauldron lost in Sunken City. Diego and Ruby can’t be together because Diego doesn’t have the right pedigree and Ruby is next up as Legacy heir to lead the senate.
Now I explained all this to say that the book had strong heroines, lots of magic and a nice little mystery. I also loved Ruby’s daughter, Rose and her familiar, Fenn. My only gripe is that I did not read the Books 1 through 3 in the series. And although this is my fault, I feel I know too much from Book 4 to go back and read the others. Don’t make my mistake.

Our heroine has magic but it is not going to get her out of the responsibility that has just been thrust upon her. Just the opposite. Our hero wants to help her out, but they have a history and she is not sure she wants to give him another chance. Of course, fate has plans of its own and they better get with the program.

This is book four of the series, but it works pretty well as a standalone. It definitely interconnects with the previous books, but the story itself is mostly self contained.

This is a paranormal romance (witches!) with a second chance theme as well. The story is really well written, easy to read and highly engaging. I have not read the previous books in the series, but that did not stop me from getting sucked into the story. Both the characters and the setting are well done and bring the story to life. And while they have some history, our characters also have excellent chemistry and make a great team. Overall, this was a really fun story and I look forward to going back and reading from the beginning.

Highly recommended.

Ruby Donovan and Diego Benitas come together in a story of danger and suspense. Ruby and Diego are offered a second chance in this story line. Will they take the risk on letting each other in again? Or will they hold back until the threat of their deadly enemies closes in and makes them realize what they mean to each other?

The story line was strong and well-paced, with tension and suspense where needed to keep the reader focused on where the story was headed. I enjoyed seeing Diego’s protective nature toward Ruby and how the two of them found strength, not only in themselves, but in their reliance on each other. Grab your copy and read their story to see what the future holds for them.

"She might never be his, but he would be hers until the end. However happy or heartbreaking that might be."

Just when you think you kind of know what's going on. There is a brand new twist to the story. This series has been exciting to learn together with the Donovan sisters what life has in store for them.

Ruby and Crash had something powerful that called to them but will the past and the present align to give them a second chance at love?

A big thank you to NetGalley and City Owl Press for the ARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. This is the 4th book in a series. I have not read the others. I found it a bit confusing at first and a mite overwhelming, but quickly caught up. It may be best to read them in order. I felt I was missing a lot of background story, I truly enjoyed it once I got caught up. OMgoodness the drama!! I found it to be a wild ride. I absolutely adored Fenn, and Rose. This is a fun fantasy, paranormal, with a smidge of romance. Lots of suspense. 3.5 stars.

Heart an Seek is Book 4 in the Legacy Series by Luna Joya.

This is the first book I’ve read in the series. It was a little challenging at first to keep track of who was who, but the author did a good job of explaining. I don’t usually read this genre of book but it was very well written and kept my attention.

A page-turner filled with non-stop action! Heart and seek is a fabulous addition to Joya’s Legacy Series. This second chance romance is a story about family, redemption, betrayal, and pulls at the heartstrings. The star of the book has got to be Rose, the cutest two-year-old witch you’ll ever meet. As a couple, Diego and Ruby have unforgettable chemistry with smoking-hot love scenes. With a family that deals in secrets and lies, it’ll keep you glued to the pages right until the very end.

I really enjoyed this book. I read it without reading the previous ones in the series and I didn’t have any trouble keeping up with the narrative. This story had many classic Urban Fantasy elements, and the writing was solid. The big unique family dynamic between Ruby’s family was really fun to read about and it really makes me want to read all the other book in the series. Ruby and Diego were so cute together and the second-chance romance trope was utilized really well. Overall, this was a great book. If you like Urban Fantasy, I really recommend it.
