Sleet #2

Sleet Sugar

Rate this book
My friends have convinced me. No more hockey players.

With a dad who is the Head Coach for the Minnesota Sleet, it seemed like an easy decision.

My friends have also convinced me that the best way to boost my fragile self-esteem is through a one-night stand.
A dating app. A hotel bar. A sexy-as-hell man... who’s sweet, and funny, and - did I mention? sexy-as-hell… I fortified my courage and invited myself up to his room.

Assumptions. There’s a rule about them.

I assumed he was passing through town. I assumed he was a businessman, or maybe an investor, or accountant, or literally anything other than a professional hockey player. I assumed I’d never see him again.

I assumed wrong.

What do you do when your ONS you just met from swiping on a dating app turns out to be the newest member of the hockey team your father is coaching?

You scream and throw papers at him, ignore him as much as you can, avoid him at all costs.

What do you do when your ONS turns out to be the coach's daughter who ran off in the middle of the night and deleted her profile?

Crash every single date she goes on and basically give her no room to breathe when it comes to avoiding you, because you have become obsessed and fallen for her.

Zach just showed off how much he is willing to do to get the girl of his dreams. Every time he showed up wherever she was too funny because you know someone was helping him get the information.

I understand why Izzy pushed him away, after her horrible dating history with men and the fact he was a new player. She was scared of what it could mean if she gave in and how much damage she could do to either of them if things did not work out.

Again, this was a slow burn after they found out their real identities. They do have sex right in the beginning when they meet up, but we do not get them together for quite a while.

Each time he took a step towards getting her, she would (literally) run away.

There is no third act break up in this book, but we do get a small miscommunication when she gets assaulted at the party they are attending, and he beats the crap out of the guy and he gets arrested.
And he thinks he fucked it up with her while in reality she was fearing for HIM not of him.

I liked her dad a lot, the whole thing about him possibly not being okay with their relationship was not true at all as he had figured out everything long before they told him, and he never implies he is unhappy about the pairing but instead is able to help Zach see he does belong with her.

There is real OM drama in this book, as Izzy wants to find a bf but gets set up with guys who are no match to what she feels for Zach and nothing ever happens with any of them.

Another cute sports romance in the ‘Sleet’ world. Fairly common troupe of coach’s daughter and player but with a bit of a twist. Zach and Izzy were great together and I loved all the crashing of dates.

I loved Sleet Sugar so much! Our leads Izzy and Zach meet while Izzy is looking to have a one night stand to get herself back in the dating game. Unbeknownst to the other, Zach is an NHL player who just moved to the city to join his new team, and Izzy’s dad is the coach is said team. In addition, Izzy is an accountant/financial planner for many of the players and is often at the rink. They are shocked when they bump into each other a few days later when Izzy’s dad introduces them!

Despite their immediate connection and attraction, Izzy is reluctant to date a hockey player, knowing she’d still see them regularly if things didn’t work out. Zach is immediately infatuated with Izzy and is very determined to convince her that he’s worth taking a chance on.

I really enjoyed the back and forth between Zach and Izzy throughout the book! The banter, the flirting, the emails…it was all adorable. I loved Zach showing up on Izzy’s dates and not making a scene, but making his presence known to her. You see a little jealousy from him as she tries to date to “move on” from Zach, and some jealousy from Izzy when she hears women in the stands making suggestive comments about Zach during hockey games.

Zach was such a sweetheart, and was so protective of Izzy, and I loved that. Izzy’s relationship with her dad was also so cute! There really wasn’t much drama between our couple, making this book low on angst (and high on laughs! I laughed out loud several times!). I foresee myself re-reading this one many times in the future as a fun mood booster.

I can’t wait to read the next book in the series about Meghan!

SJ Tilly does it again! This book is full of laughs and the chemistry between Zach and his “Sugar” is off the charts! There are quite a few unique and hilarious parts to the book, and I particularly loved the paint night date that Izzy goes on. I went on a paint night once, and it wasn’t nearly this hilarious or awkward.
This book also teases at who the couple in the third book will be. I can’t wait!

4 stars. Significantly better than the other two books I’ve read by this author…since I actually enjoyed it! Lol.

I’ve always loved a romance with a hero in pursuit, and this book delivered just that. The heroine pushed the hero away until nearly the end… and I didn’t mind it at all! I liked that she didn’t just sit up and roll over, even though she really wanted to be with the hero. She didn’t think he would make a good long-term prospect and didn’t give him a chance until he proved he wasn’t only interested in a good time.

Totally safe
Heroine not a virgin but celibate for 7 years 🥴
Hero not a manwhore

Mild OM drama

I maybe just didn't read this in the right mood, but I found myself getting really irritated with Izzy (h). She's sweet, awkward, and trying to get back into sex and dating, but when she has the perfect guy fall in her lap, Zach (H), she keeps pushing him away because of these rules/ideas in her head about dating hockey players. He doggedly pursues her, including crashing dates, all while showing her how dedicated he is to being with her. The story is written in first person, mainly dual POV (one of the side characters has a couple POV chapters). No ow drama, om drama in the sense she goes on dates but it's clear they're not going to be more, neither are virgins - she's been celibate for years and I don't remember how long it's been for him but it was a while, bc used.

Don't get me wrong, the story is funny, cute, and sweet with some nice steam (there's what's expected to be a ONS early on in the book and then more steam doesn't come til later). Izzy is also relatable in a lot of ways. I just felt bad for how wonderful Zach was as this big, alpha, hockey player who only had eyes for her while she kept trying to find a "real" relationship. There are several j/p scenes though because of this. We get some sweet emotionally bonding moments too, but there are also ones where there's more telling than showing or glossing over a moment that could have been deeper. Again, I might just be in a mood because I did enjoy this overall.

Like with the first book, the side characters are hilarious and add great bits to the story. We get to see Kitten and Jackson from book 1 and I'm sure we'll see them along with Izzy and Zach in book 3. The story does end on a HFN with no extended epilogue, presumably because of the events of book 3, and there's a lead-in to that book.

3.5 ⭐

I really enjoyed Zack and Izzy's story. Though they had ONS at the beginning, the second time they did it happened around 91% so I would say this is still falls in the slow burn part.

I liked Izzy although at times she was so immature but I find her antics comical. She had so much issues when it comes to hockey players but the root of them were founded. Although it took her quite sometime to actually admit her feelings to Zack, I still root for the both of them.

Zack was persistent and patient. It was instant attraction for the both of them the first time they met. But I really enjoyed him falling so hard for her. The way he crashes all of her dates and how he protected her at the end. I also love it that he didn't shy away from showing his emotions. I rarely read MMC who openly cries but Zack has no problem doing it.

I love Izzy and her dad's relationship they were the best of friends and the love, trust, and respect were adorable to read. Thank God, her dad isn't an asshole who has issues with his players dating his daughter. Well I guess it's also because of Zack, he has been a good and steady guy since the beginning. He couldn't ask for a better guy for his daughter.

Overall, I enjoyed this just like the first book. Each couple made my heart so full and kept me smiling all throughout reading their story.

Much of what I have to say about this book I said about the first book - please note I finished this series out of spite.

If you are a fan of hockey, do not read this book because so much of what the author writes about hockey is wrong. In this one, one of the big plot points I don’t think makes sense in professional sports at all. Thirty year olds don’t play their whole career in a European league and then get signed by an NHL team and become an overnight star. Especially not when they are called an enforcer and aren’t a “skill” player.

If you are a fan of adult communication in healthy relationships, nope, we strike out again in this book. Assigning nicknames rather than asking about them, pushing/crossing set boundaries as if they don’t exist, demanding instead of asking your partner… communication is sexy! Being open and honest with your partner is hot! Talking over them and not listening to them is not. It’s this sort of thing that has people saying the straights are not okay!

The structure of this book is weird in that the start and end of chapters seems to have nothing to do with time frame? They seemed designed so every chapter ends on a snappy saying or a pretend ‘what will happen?’ rather than then we are moving someplace else in time and space, but there isn’t any consistency so it ends up being more difficult to follow because of it.

Positives: the heroines of this series are 30 or older. There is a description of how a woman adjusts her boobs in a bra that is accurate and made me believe this was written by an actual person with boobs

Sleet Sugar was the perfect sequel to this series! We now follow Isabelle, the coach's daughter AKA Izzy, and Zach, the NHL player and their not only a one-night-stand romance! We jump right into their first date with a hot night of sex that, through happy chance and strong sexual attraction, turns into an addictive romance!

At first we have a cat-and-mouse relationship (love the resistance!) with Zach following her through dating disasters with other men and Izzy trying not to fall in love with another hockey player. S.J. Tilly writes in a very trendy and modern style, with e-mail dialogues etc, which is not only fun but also keeps a fast pace to the story (the pages literally flew through my hands!).

I love that Zach isn't perfect, which makes their romance even more relatable. Zach is a lonely man, with some traumas from a broken home and distant selfish parents. I enjoyed to read about how he put an effort to overcome the lack of love in his childhood and find new love with Izzy, in a true and heartfelt way. She tries to fight it, but is hard to resist to a such handsome, wonderful and protective man (who could resist that?!) From book one we witness a strong bond of friendship between Izzy and her friends, trying to help each other finding true love, success and happiness!

This book gave me a serious sugar rush!

The Sleet series is the gift that keeps on giving. While in Sleet Kitten we followed the story of Katelyn and Jackson, this time we focus on Izzy, the Coach’s daughter, and the one night stand that turns into a whirlwind romance with the Sleet team’s newest member, Zach. I didn’t think it was possible to top Jackson and Katelyn, but the woman I’ve become reading about Zach and his Sugar laughs at the person I used to be. So far, Zach and Izzy are definitely my favorites.

Their personalities were perfectly complimentary, with Izzy being the sweetest girl and Zach being the bad boy panty-dropper that steals my heart within 0.5 seconds of page time. I admit that I loved the way the author used the bad boy trope though. Despite appearances, Zach isn’t one to fool around, and his determination to win his girl’s heart made him all the more attractive in my eyes. The romance starts with a bang, but the build-up to a real relationship was slow, agonizing and enjoyable to the max! There were some truly hilarious situations in this book, and the banter between Izzy and Zach was the cherry on the top. Bonus points: we got some incredible curvy girl rep in this one, and I’m so thankful for that!

The only reason I’m not giving a full 5 stars is because I was a little unconvinced by the “fall before the happily ever after” moment typical of every rom-com worthy of its name. It’s not that it didn’t make sense, but I felt some reactions were a bit of a stretch. However, it does resolve quickly so little harm done.

Now I’m very excited to dive into the final book of the series, Sleet Banshee, which will follow my favorite vixen, Meghan! We get some glimpses of what her story might be throughout this book and in the epilogue…and I have a feeling this one will be my favorite of the trilogy!

Thank you to the author for gifting me a copy. All opinions are my own.

3.5 - 4 stars!

Sleet Sugar was sugary sweet and I loved getting to know Zach and his Izzy. Zach meets Izzy for a one-night stand not realizing they'll meet again and makes things infinitely more complicated. Zach is the new enforcer on the team and Izzy's dad is the coach. Izzy has sworn off hockey players and has many reservations about having a second helping of the sexy Zach. Fear not though, Zach is up for a challenge.

"It’s like I can see into her mind. She’s doing everything she can to convince herself that we’re a bad idea. She’s trying to build a barrier between us. She’s trying to deter me. But Sugar doesn’t seem to understand that I, Zachary Hunt, never back down from a challenge.

Despite Izzy pushing Zach away quite a bit, I loved Zach's tenacity and possessive personality. He respectfully crashes dates, pushes Izzy outside of her comfort zone and builds something beautiful between the two of them. Even Izzy finally succumbs to his charm and wit.

“You went younger last time. I see you’re trying your hand at older tonight. But you’re wrong to keep trying. You don’t need to keep searching for your perfect man.”

There’s no hint of teasing in his voice or his eyes. I keep my tone just as serious. “I know.”

Sleet Sugar is a little angsty, pretty steamy and sexy and just an all around cute sports romance. Izzy could have been a little less annoying at times but I also understand her reluctance. Overall, I am really enjoying this series.

So you're the boss's daughter and one night stands that don't stay that way with your dad's employees stay that way? Take that add two parts angsty hockey metaphors and you found this book.

I would recommend this to any puck bunny who wanted to be closer to the action in their sports romance.

When Izzy decides to break her dry spell by arranging a blind date with the sole purpose of hooking up, she never expects to see her one-night stand again. Except, it turns out he's the newest player of the Sleets - the ice hockey team her dad coaches, and who she herself is very involved in. Izzy has lots of reasons to avoid dating hockey players but can't deny the connection between her and Zach, who is very determined to make Izzy his girl.

I really enjoyed this sports romance and it was a great follow-on book to Sleet Kitten with Jackson and Katelyn being side characters in this one. There are a few spicy scenes in this story but I don't think it was overdone, and the chemistry and connection between Izzy and Zach was really believable and they were easy to root for. I also preferred the nickname of 'Sugar' to 'Kitten' (in Book One) as the latter had given me the ick a bit but I liked how Zach used 'Sugar' with Izzy.

The lack of over the top complications and drama in this story was actually really nice, and I enjoyed that were wasn't a forced or silly 'third act break up' like in many romances. Izzy's initial reservations about dating Zach are very easy to understand from having to see him all the time if it didn't work out, and of course, her dad essentially being his boss and how that could make things difficult. Not to mentions she's had bad experiences with hockey players in the past.

Zach's maturity and emotional depth actually pleasantly surprised me in this one as well. I was really ready to read how Zach's relationship issues with his parents and his hard childhood meant he would never be good enough for Izzy and he could never fall in love as this is the exact formula I've seen with similar male leads in other books but no, Zach was all in for Izzy and ready to love her and I loved it.

This was so easy and enjoyable, and while parts of it were slightly over written at times (I don't think Izzy needed to explain everything in so much detail all the time to her friends, it wasn't a realistic way of talking), I didn't mind it too much. Looking forward to reading Sleet Banshee and see what's in store for Meghan!

I didn’t think I could love a couple more than Jackson and Katelyn, but….

I love Zach. And I adore Izzy. Her sweetness mixed with his gruffness made this book soooo freaking good to read. I stayed up late too many nights in a row finishing this one but do I have any regrets? Absolutely not.

Love the characters and the banter. The anger was a little silly but thankfully short lived. The haunted village was probably the best part

Zach falls first... and Izzy fights it at every turn! Izzy Thorpe hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to dating. Having a dad who is a head coach in the NHL makes her typical dating pool consist of your average hockey player, which has led her to swearing off all hockey players. Her girlfriends decide it’s time for her to get back out there, encouraging her to sign up for some dating apps. Before she takes dating seriously, she is looking to have a night of fun just to get the nerves out, and she looks no further than her newest match, Zach. After their night together, she wasn’t expecting to see him again, especially not being introduced to her by her dad as his newest player. The thing about Zach is that just like Izzy, he hasn’t been able to stop thinking about their night together. But, unlike Izzy, Zach isn’t going to hide his feelings. He has every intention of fighting for Izzy’s attention. So much for swearing off those hockey players, right?

I flew through the first book and immediately started the second I’m working my way onto the third right now.

This book follows Izzy and Zach and is absolutely hilarious. So far. The first two books were both fast-paced funny this one. I was laughing out loud throughout the story. They’re not slow burn they’re not overly spicy, but spice fits the story in the right places, the way that these are written is great for character development and it definitely has you wanting to see where the next book goes and all the other characters are brought in but they can be read as interconnected standalones.

“I’m feeling possessive, protective, and guilty. Possessive of her. Protective of her feelings. Guilty about how we met.”

“What are you doing, you weirdo? Go back to your seat!”
“No.”
“What do you mean, no?”
“Exactly that. I’m sitting here now.”
“Why?”
Zach’s eyes turn serious. “Because I thought I lost you. And now that I have you, I intend to keep you as close as possible.” 🥰🥰🥰🥰

"Whatever assurance you want from me, consider them granted. Isabelle Thorpe, I want to date you. You and only you. I'll be whatever you want me to be."

💜 5 be still my sugary heart stars!!!💜

Zach and Izzy share one of the sweetest love stories I've ever read about 💜
Izzy is done with hockey players who used her to get on the teams her father coached, but her huge heart and kind soul are in no way done with love! 💜
To get her dating-ball rolling, she hooks up with a guy she met on a dating app ... meet Zach, the new hockey player for the Sleets!! :)
The two of them are coming in H O T, but also realizing from the first minute that this is not just a one time thing.
Throughout the book SJ Tilly weaves a beautiful story of two people with the best intentions who have been burned in their past trying to make it work (also a lot of Zach chasing Izzy which I LOVED, where do I find men like these?? I want to sign up!! 💜)
Until eventually they figure out they're the absolute best for one another.

Everything about this story warmed my heart in the best way, and I cannot wait to dive into Meghan's book, because she is one spicy lady which I loved from the first moment she was introduced on Sleet Kitten.

Go read this now!! 💜💜💜💜💜

The Minnesota Sleet is quickly becoming my favorite fictional sports team! If you haven’t read this series yet, what are you waiting for! Izzy and Zach have an undeniable chemistry and I am here for it. The push and pull in this one was killing me, but was so worth it. S.J. I really enjoyed this audiobook and the narrators a bit more than book one. Overall, fun read, but low conflict. The trend with these are low conflict that often comes late and is resolved quickly, which just isn’t my personal preference.

They are really fun and light and well done audios!

DNF 30%. So boring. Could not get in to the writing style. Wayyyyy too much description. Heroine way too immature. Like acts like a 12 year old. Not my thing. I wanted to tough it out bc all the reviews say the H is amazing but I couldn’t get interested. Only a few chapters in his POV. Needed more.

"Ever since I met Isabelle Thorpe, I wanted her to love me. If I could have nothing else in this world, I wanted to have her heart."

I love Izzy and Zach! This one grabbed me right from the very beginning.

Izzy has been in a slump with men and needs her confidence back. Her friend Meghan has a brilliant idea to have a one night stand with someone from a dating app. Just a one night romp to get her back in the saddle.

Well, she has that one night and it is unbelievable. And when she finds out he plays hockey for her dad's team she knows she's got trouble.

"Every time I see him, or hear him, or touch him...my brain has a little sex aneurysm and goes off line. Maybe it's a brain orgasm. A braingasm."

Zach is the cocky, badass, NHL player who deep down has a heart of gold. His confidence and cockiness is funny and sweet and you can't help but love him.

"I'm just not good at this part."- Izzy
"Sugar, I find that very hard to believe. But-even if you think that's true, you have nothing to worry about. Because I'm very good at this next part."

The end, god the end, when something bad happens to Izzy and Zach intervenes. Then he talks to her dad. It is just hot guy, alpha guy, sweet guy gold. Izzy's dad melted my heart and his interaction with Zach and Izzy is one of the best parts of the whole book.

"Come on, son."
"Those words."

Now, I did love Katelyn and Jackson. Izzy and Zach were even better. But, I am telling you. I can't wait for Meghan's book. I only have to wait a few days. Less than one week. Meghan is just like Katie from Utterly Unashamed. I am a little bit Izzy and a little bit Katelyn. But I have a feeling Meghan is going to steal the show.

"Listen bitch, you need to snap on that strap on and fuck this guy tonight. It's the only way....I mean grow a pair. Nut up. Balls out."

Sass, snark, sex, and heart. I can't wait!!!!

Another fantastic book in the Sleet series! This one was the perfect follow up to Jackson’s and Kathryn’s story. Izzy and Jackson are amazing and their story is full of passion.

Dating is hard, especially if you are the coach’s daughter. Izzy swore she would never date a hockey player again. Because they never liked her. They like her father and what she could do for them.

So to cure get dry spell, Izzy matches with a guy named Zach on a hook up site and the two meet up. They had the most mind blowing night and Izzy leaves in the middle of the night, expecting to never see this man again.

Until she walks into her fathers office and sees Zach, the new player on the sleet team. More than ever, she tried to ignore his advances and put distance between them. Which is proving difficult because everywhere she looks, Zach is there. She can’t deny her need for him for much longer.

I absolutely adores Zach and Izzy. I thought he was the perfect, sweet alpha male for her. He brought out the best in her and she him. My heart broke a little during a certain scene, making Zachary spiral and with thoughts of not being good enough.

Overall it has a happy ending and I’m so excited for the next one! I think It’ll be my favorite!

Zack is the perfect guy for Izzy. He doesn’t take no for an answer. He knows they have great chemistry. So what better way to let her know he’s interested than to show up on all her dates. Maybe, just maybe she will come to her senses!!
This series is really fun. I’m off to get the next book!!
