Sleet Kitten

Rate this book
There are a few things that life doesn’t prepare you for. Like what to do when a super-hot guy catches you sneaking around in his basement. Or what to do when a mysterious package shows up with tickets to a hockey game because, apparently, he’s a professional athlete. Or how to handle it when you get to the game and realize he’s freaking famous since half of the 20,000 people in the stands are wearing his jersey.

I thought I was a well-adjusted adult, reasonably prepared for life. But one date with Jackson Wilder, a viral video, and a “I didn’t know she was your mom” incident, and I’m suddenly questioning everything I thought I knew.

But he’s fun. And great. And I think I might be falling for him. But I don’t know if he’s falling for me, too, or if he’s as much of a player off the ice as on.

i illegally downloaded this on my phone after seeing a tiktok about it and i got through 82/284 pages. at the first mention of thigh high boots and skinny jeans a piece of my soul flew away from my body and landed in the pits of hell, but i kept reading. then came the sentence “I’m wearing my favorite pair of dark-wash jeans and a grey Henley.” this set me off and i don’t think i’ve ever felt that much hatred in my heart. i went on a rampage against henley shirts. i cannot even put this into words. i only have one question and it’s why are we wearing thigh high boots, skinny jeans, and HENLEY SHIRTS (😭) in this day and age?? i almost let it slide because i thought the book was written in the early 2010’s but it literally came out last year and that almost ended me for a second time. i never abandon books because it feels wrong but i could not finish this book as it would be detrimental to my mental health. i had to look out for myself.

Every time he called her kitten, I thought of a 30year discord mod in his mother’s basement grooming children online. And for that reason alone this book was painful to get through.

if i had the option of shooting myself or reading any line from this book again i would choose shooting myself any day
other than the title, i knew i was gonna hate this book but the opening line of jt just made it a full circle
“ "Well, fuckity shits on a stick. Isn't
that just great? I grumble, thinking how tonight just went from dull, to bad, to worse.”
wtf was that also there’s a point where he doesn’t even call her her name anymore just kitten (even when proposing to her) and then everyone else calls her that too
just weird and no real plot of a book

3.5⭐️ this was such a cute fluffy book 😭 it was very character driven so if you like no plot just vibes then this is the perfect book for you. Can’t lie at times it was a little dry with barely any plot but it was a lovely little easy palette cleanser 😌

I’m embarrassed to even put I read this book lol. I saw it on tiktok advertised as a more adult version of the Off Campus series that I loved in high school and it ended up being the most cringe book I have ever read. Even the cover is cringe ffs

Started it after seeing cute excerpts on tiktok but the cute moments weren’t good enough to continue and I was cringing throughout. What really put me off was the writing style throughout the whole book, very Wattpad-esque. I really wanted to like this book since I’m a big fan of sports romances but this didn’t do it for me :(

dnf at 20%: no just no. first of all, this man called her kitten more than her actual name (i couldn’t even remember her name at one point like i swear it was mentioned once) AND they literally fell heads over heels for each other just by cuddling on the same couch once like um did i miss something 😐 i only tried reading this because there’s apparently an insane scene where the mmc goes apeshit over the fmc being on the kiss cam with another guy but it’s not worth it at this point

plus the fmc was whining about how she wasn’t like the other girls and that she was actually curvy?? i was appalled anyways this really wasn’t it

I’m all about sports romance and I really love hockey books so I thought I would give this one a go. I read a book by SJ Tilly earlier this year and I loved it and though this wasn’t as good for me, it was still enjoyable.

Jackson is a pro hockey player and meets Katelyn at his home when he’s hosting a party. He’s is immediately infatuated with her and they start dating. They were really cute together and it was a sweet romance. There was a bit of a predictable misunderstanding at the end, but overall I liked it a lot!

Jackson and Katelyn have an adorable meet cute when she crashes his basement during a party she attends to support her cousin. These two had instant chemistry and I really loved their banter from the beginning.

The fact she meets his mom at the hockey game but has NO IDEA that's his mom and tells her their first meeting was funny. I loved the side characters that rooted for them.

He seemed to be just the perfect gentleman with a hint of crazy when he basically ''stalks'' her to and gets her to go out with him on multiple occasion but each one is constantly interrupted by different reasons and people.

This is technically a slow burn but not because they push/pull or deny themselves but because timing just needs to be off, they do not have sex until around 70% of the book.

We do have OW drama in Jackson's ex fiancée, something he never mentions to Katelyn (the ex-cheated and he dumped her two years ago) but she finds out by accident when hanging out with his sister. This ex causes massive issues between the two when she tries to get back together with him, and he turns her down but sadly they are photographed, and Katelyn doesn't get a reply from him the next day and then when she goes to his place the same ex is at his house naked under a robe and claims they are back together causing her heartache and eventual breakup.

Jackson is distraught and HATES the ex and kicks her out by getting security involved. Sadly, the damage is done for a short amount of time, and he attempts to win her back and grovel, but Katelyn is not interested to even read his messages or talk to him.

THANKFULLY she is told the truth from his sister of everything that happened, and she is able to forgive and let go.

These two were really cute and I adored his adoration for her.

His proposal was also really nice, and it worked really well with their relationship and how it all started.

Meet cute and slow burn with some heat

Katelyn meets Jackson at her cousin’s party, which happens to be at Jackson’s house. Her heel breaks and as she’s trying to leave the party, she notices her ex and his new flame by the door. So she goes snooping around and heads down into a library, which she thought was a sex dungeon LOL, and comes face-to-face with the owner- Jackson.

Jackson was in a serious relationship for a couple of years, and then he realized that he didn’t have a strong connection with his fiancé, especially after he discovered that she had been cheating on him. He notices Katelyn, whom he nicknames Kitten, and they share a moment. Since she’s never seen The Godfather before, they start watching it together, but then she falls asleep (and eventually he does too). He gets her number and they start texting each other. It isn’t until the next day that she realizes that Jackson is a famous hockey player for Sleet.

The chemistry was pretty steamy between these two. Their dates keep getting interrupted by others🤦🏻‍♀️ (which pushes the steamy encounters to the back burner ugh); I totally enjoyed the secondary characters, but wanted it to be steamier lol. I mean. I loved seeing his J/P ness come out when the kiss cam lands on Kate and another man at his game LOL. And I love how he… um… pleasures her when they finally kiss in the hallway 🥵. They don’t have smex until after 70% and the second smex scene isn’t until over 90%. But the chemistry was 🔥💦 regardless.

It was a nice, feel good romance. The owd with his ex was annoying, but I’m glad Jackson didn’t ever hesitate in his quest to get rid of her and move forward with Kate.

⚠️safety squad⚠️
-no cheating/sharing/omd
-owd- the coach’s daughter asks the H on a date, but he lets her know he’s not interested and the ow ends up befriending the h
-owd with the ex fiancé. OW goes to H and tries to talk to him but he brushes her off and leaves her. She also shows up at his place, waits for him naked under her robe; when the H comes home, she gets naked (not near him). He kicks her out, has security escort her out, and bans her from his building 💁🏻‍♀️

I’m struggling to rate this one, because I did like the story but felt like the writing could be tightened up. The H called the h “kitten” but then used it outside of just a pet name, and used it instead of her actual name for everything, like “Kitten was wearing…” etc. and I found that to be on the cringy side. The story itself was very cute and I enjoyed the H being possessive while also being sweet! I’ll rate it 3.5 stars and round down.

I really enjoyed this sweet contemporary sports romance. I don’t read many straight-up contemporary Rom-coms and even less ones that involve sports but someone shared a snippet of this on Facebook with the kiss cam outtake and I was intrigued enough to pick this up.

Very glad I did as this was such a breath of fresh air a real feel-good read that left me feeling so warm and fuzzy. This is set in the world of hockey something I know nothing about. It’s not a complicated story and it’s a little bit instalove but did I care well heck no. This gave me such a happy glow and Katelyn and Jackson or Kitten as Jackson calls her were absolutely adorable together.

There’s a little bit of accidental strife from an ex causing waves but it’s minor and even that couldn’t spoil the happy party I had going on with this. Definitely recommend it if your looking for a feel-good contemporary with plenty of hot chemistry this one was a definite winner and delivered all that and more.

I admit, I do not understand people that tell every detail of their love life to LITERALLY EVERY WOMAN THEY MET EVER. But I could have been okay with it, IF I DIDN'T HAVE TO READ ABOUT IT.

Basically, the story in this book looks like this: Something happens between the hero and the heroine - the heroine proceeds to tell her best friend, a girl she just met, his mother and his sister the whole thing AND I HAVE TO READ ABOUT HER TELLING THEM THESE THINGS! Why?! Why should I need to read about the same situations twice?

This book could have been a novella if all of these parts were not there.

Plus, nothing freaking happens troughout the whole book. Zero angst, zero reason to doubt that these characters will end up together = me bored to death.

And finally, the hero literally renamed the heroine - her name is Katelyn - does he call her Katelyn or Kate or any variation of her name more than once in this book? No, he calls her Kitten. He calls her Kitten so muuch that all of the other characters (including his mother!) also start calling her Kitten. Jesus, I hated that so much!

Anyways, I will not be continuing with this series, that's for sure.

Wow! I absolutely LOVED this book! I picked this story up on Kindle Unlimited, because someone I know shared an excerpt on social media, and I thought it sounded interesting. I think this is the first book in a long time that I’ve read several passages multiple times, giggling hysterically each time. Tilly does such a great job of crafting those misunderstandings scenes that don’t feel contrived, whether it’s a hilarious misunderstanding or a heartbreaking one.
I loved the story and the writing so much, but I also loved the characters. It’s refreshing to read a romance where both the hero and heroine are in their thirties, and they’re not considered “old”. This book introduces us to quite a few other characters that I love, and I can’t wait to read their love stories!

"You, Kitten. You are my happiness. The one who makes me a better person. The one I want to see in the stands cheering me on. You are the woman I want at my side. You are my passion."

5 shining Go Sleet!! stars!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Jackson and Katelyn's story is by far the sweetest ones I've ever read!!
This was my first hockey romance and first book by SJ Tilly and it won't be the last 😍🥰
Jackson is a famous hockey player who meets Katelyn, a book editor, at a party that's hosted at his place.
Right from the get-go these two hit it off, and despite the misunderstandings of the early stags of dating, they did everything possible to make it work.
This couple had everything I love reading about -- they cared for each other, they were honest and the spice was just 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I loved that they were different,
Jackson a hot alpha male who showed his caveman side when needed, but for his Kitten he would become the cutest cinnamon roll 🥰
and Katelyn was just the right amount of everything -- sweet, funny, awkward in the most adorable of ways and took no sh**t.
Sigh.... they were just amazing together 🥰🥰

Also -- and this was one of my favorite things, the side characters!
I LOVED that Katelyn had the Sunday brunch with the girls, Meghan, Steph and Izzy and that they were all so supportive of one another.
Yes and yes a million times to girl power!!

Totally recommended and will definitely be reading the rest of the series!

" "Jackson." She pauses and I can see when she realizes that I'm serious. "That's crazy though... right?"
I brush a lock of her hair behind her ear. "Crazy has kind of been our thing." " 🥰🥰

DNF at 40%...

I loved the main couple and the direction they were headed. The heroine was sweet, nerdy and easily embarrassed. The hero was a hot hockey player who made his intentions very clear. The flirty behavior was great and I could tell there would be some steamy times ahead.

Now why did she not finish this book???? Well...I’m glad you asked. This may not be a deal breaker for most people but it’s something I find annoying as hell.

3.5 stars rounded up

Sleet Kitten was a cute and lighter read that's character-driven with a touch of angst. Jackson (H) is a famous hockey player who's not a player outside of the game (always a win for me) and Katelyn (h) works in publishing and is a somewhat awkward sweetheart. There's a bit more telling than showing at times and the pacing is somewhat uneven since this was the author's first written story. However, I still enjoyed their meet-cute, chemistry, the jealous/possessive moments Jackson displays, and the endearing side characters.

The story is told in first person, dual POV. No om drama, some ow drama but because of her actions, not his interest (), neither are virgins (I don't remember it saying how long), and bc is used. Overall, I was smiling a lot, got a bit choked up at the emotional parts, and there's some well done steaminess that rounded everything out. I've heard good things about the rest of the series too and I liked the other book of hers I've tried. I'll be adding more of Ms. Tilly's books to my TBR for sure.

I'm super into hockey romances because...actually I have no idea. Me like ice boys I guess.

But anyways, this is a read for those who enjoy drama. The back and forth. The miscommunication. The will they-wont they shit. It's not everyone's jam but sometimes I just wanna read a relationship where the mistakes keep piling up but the sex is hot and the story is fun. That's this book.

The hero isn't a huge douche which was kind of refreshing after some sports romances where the men are basically contemporary rakes. The heroine is cute but prefers to act first and ask questions later which was a little frustrating at times but also....basically what I would do when faced with a hot, rich, cool dude who seems weirdly interested in me.

Also, the nickname Kitten which I know gets a lot of you going.

So bad. THE GUY CALLS HIS GIRL “KITTEN” I’m gonna BARF. And to make it worse not just every once in a while like 5-10 times per page I swear. Not really a good storyline. Hate the miscommunication the characters have, just seemed like the easy way out with writing

2 stars. This didn’t work for me. The writing is simplistic (nicest term I can think to use), the MCs lack chemistry, and the narration for the audiobook isn’t great either. I also found the insta love to be incredibly OTT unrealistic. These two barely spent any time together and were already thinking the L word.

I hated that the other woman was vilified in part by giving her big fake breasts. She set her chest on the table at one point FFS. Every time any descriptors of her came up, I cringed. Sure, she’s a bad person… but does she also have to be written as a caricature of plastic Barbie gold digger? Is it not possible for normal looking women to be evil? Or for women with boob jobs to be nice? This type of writing of women always irritates me.

One last point of contention… why did his first (now ex) fiancé get a huge engagement ring, meanwhile the heroine got some cheap sounding BS at the end? Why is it that the heroine has to somehow be better than his ex by showing how not materialistic she is? Does wanting pretty things really make a woman lesser? In real life, if a wealthy man who once spent a lot of money on an ex starts seeing a new woman, but now buys her lesser versions of everything his ex once got, then that wouldn’t look good. “I took my ex to Paris, but that was too expensive, I found a great deal to visit Paris, Texas instead!”

I’m going to try one more book by this author… hoping it will be better than this one!

Safe
No virgins
Hero not a manwhore
No scenes with OM/OW
No cheating
No OM drama
OW drama caused by hero’s ex fiancé who tries to get back with the hero and break the MCs up
