When she finds herself in the midst of an investigation to discover the author of some threatening letters, all her relatives become involved, in the process, mastering the art of observation. Little do they know they are about to uncover a mystery hidden within a mystery.
Squeaky clean lighthearted cozy mystery set in the 1920s
Evil and Tom , the family and the help get involved in a murder mystery. An entertaining storyline about a fox hunt, an Hunt’s Ball, a horse and a murder mystery that happens at the Ball.
Another delightful romp through the 1920's English countryside with Evie and the gang. When lady detective Lottie offers Evie a partnership in her agency she ends up bringing her, and by extension the whole Halton House group into a minor mystery. Unfortunately, it just keeps getting more complicated and confusing as things progress.
A thoroughly delightful mystery and characters you will love! A definite must read!
I really liked this book. Even though everything was laid out for us, I still didn't know who did what. I really enjoy being surprised. I'm ready to read the next book in this series.
Very good mystery as usual. However after reading all of the previous books I was expecting a more romantic conclusion. No kiss, no holding hands, no longing looks, and no formal proposal. That part was a disappointment.
.. Lotte has asked Evie to become her business partner and drawn her into a rather odd case. Sterling Wright has employed Lotte to follow his fiancée, Margery Devon, but what puzzles Evie is why would he want her followed when she's been receiving threatening anonymous letters? Instead of setting Lotte to find the author of the notes he's sent her on what appears to be a wild goose chase and only shown her a snippet of one letter.
Lotte has been using her disguises to great effect to keep Margery in her sights but when she turns up as a local vagrant complete with sacks of fabric Margery is close to erupting. With great fanfare Lotte manages to chase Margery to Evie's and beg the good Countess to explain that she means no harm.. Evie plays along not revealing Lotte's true identity. Margery is helped home by Evie and Tom which gets them an invitation to join Sterling and his friends for the hunt itself and the Hunt Ball that follows.
Not to be outdone, Henrietta gets herself, Sara, Toodles and Lady Carolina invitations too and Lotte disguised as Cousin Ophelia gets included too.. with Margery none the wiser that she's also loony Lotte.
There's little going on until a murder at the ball and then it seems that there's too much going on. Will they be able to pick out the important facts from the nonsense? Will Sterling's other guests prove innocent or guilty? And will they ever get to the bottom of the mystery letter writer?
Evie and the rest of Halton House is invited to a ball to celebrate the end of "Fox" hunting season. Evie is still deciding whether to join Lotte as a partner in her Lady detective agency, who is currently working another case in which she needs Evie's help, who drags her entire household along with her. While at the ball, they discover a murder after Caro has been attacked.
Pro's: This was a fun story with solid storyline with developed characters along with a nice bit of humor in it.
Con's: The author is having a bit too much fun with the non-engagement of Evie and Tom. There's not so much romance in it as allusions to the romance. The author will have to walk a fine line in the next one for the story to remain mainly as a mystery instead of a chicklit.
I do enjoy the Evie and Tom series - as the series goes on, especially the last 3 books (including this one) - I keep expecting the wedding of Evie and Tom to happen. It's talked about by them, family members and staff, but still not wedding. Hoping there wedding will happen in the next book before her maid decided to marry and leave
Love this series and all the great characters, of all ages and social status! It was quite involved and a fun investigation, especially the participation of the older relatives! The people being investigated were not particularly likeable and I had no interest in " who submit" , just finding and exposing them!
I've come to love the Evie Parker series. She's a Countess and a bit unconventional as a sleuth, but has a knack for solving murders. Her family is a fun group of people who are all a bit eccentric in the British way. In these books you get a good mystery and some good laughs. I'm glad I still have many more adventures of Parker and company in my future.
Thank you for this exciting murder mystery. The storyline was fast-moving and the many different characters were fascinating, especially the dowagers. I enjoyed the role playing and disguises.
A humorous murder mystery with sassy banter, disguised characters and, some talking in circles, some also focus challenged, and a possibility of love in the air ❣️💃🏻😉🧐🎢
This is an odd series. I'm never quite sure how I feel about the book. In the case of this mystery it seemed that the mystery itself was overpowered by the minor characters who seemed to run amuck.
I was disappointed in was much was the murder does not take place til b half the book is finished. This would have been better reworked was a short story.
