The book was recommended and to be honest I did n’t expect to enjoy it. It starts well and continues to engage. So I was pleasantly surprised. I was n’t overly familiar with Bill Deedes but the book is so well researched and written I could nt help but connect with him. A fascinating man with an exceptional story to tell.

I didn't know a lot about Bill Deedes before reading this other than he was a journalist and seemed an interesting chap.
I don't want to put in any spoilers here, but what is surprising is some of Deedes' behaviour; for a man to use his talents and charm to get exactly what he wants both in the Conservative party and The Telegraph newspaper (which he loved), only to be spineless and self serving when he gets there, and do very little to protect either.
The story is really interesting, and although written by a friend and fan, it seems to be well balanced and fair to all parties.
