Given that analytics & data science have become such hot topics within business, WHY do so many companies still fail at making it work? "Most data science leaders, focusing mainly on the technical aspects of their craft, have struggled to find successes in organizations & to unlock real business value." So this book looks to fill that gap! It is based around 3 key pillars: Strategy, Process and People. The book goes into detail on how to properly build & lead data science and analytics teams within any org. This is not a technical book by any means, but rather very deeply business and managerial focused. I think it would be more helpful for experienced business and analytics leader, in order to understand many of the points made. It can also be read by those just starting out who should come back and reference it as they grow in their career. I really enjoyed the last bonus chapter that covered what's next, the future of business analytics: no-code and low-code, edge AI, bias and ethics, data for good and data for bad, etc
As a practitioner and analytics leader with over 20 years of experience in the domain of data, I really enjoyed reading this book. It summarizes a lot of best practices and experience. The book does not give an introduction and AI or analytics, but focuses on the managerial aspects of leading in the world AI and analytics. In this way this book is very unique. The book covers many essential steps to lead analytics team in larger organizations. For managers new in the field of (analytics) management it provides many tips and tricks. For experienced manager it is the perfect checklist to gauge where you are in your analytics maturity.
It's a book about building and leading analytics teams, so if you're interested in that this is a book you should read. It's broad enough to touch on even topics in the periphery, yet still tell a coherent story. Just when you think it's starting to sound like a boring instruction manual, hell quote the movie Pi and suck you back in.
It is a highly recommended read for anyone involved in leading an analytics team. This book provides a comprehensive roadmap for building a successful analytics team. Mr. Jeremy blends practical experience and academic research to provide an insightful guide that covers both technical and non-technical aspects of building an analytics team.
Also, a great book for future leaders and managers/students who are currently pursuing education in the field of business/stats/analytics.
