JIMMY-THE-ONE is the second book in the Submariner Sinclair rip-roaring authentic adventures following a British submarine crew during World War II.’John Wingate has certainly found a winner in Peter Sinclair’ – The NavyTHE SUBMARINER SINCLAIR BOOK Submariner Sinclair BOOK JIMMY-THE-ONE BOOK Sinclair in Command BOOK Nuclear Captain BOOK Sub-Zero BOOK Full Fathom Five
John Alan Wingate DSC was a successful novelist with some twenty-five books to his credit. Many of these had a naval theme. Frequently involving the submarine service, they gained much authenticity from Wingate’s personal wartime experiences
This begins as a serious and engaging WWII submarine story. But for any serious reader of WWII history, this story misses the mark. Midway the book wanders off into imaginary drama that is far from realistic. The primary characters coincidentally speak fluent German, British intelligence out smarts the Germans, and on and on. All wishful thinking, the only thing missing is the hero doesn't get the girl in the end.
But What's this nonsense about putting submariners ashore to play at espionage? The Bride had hundreds of trained agents for those jobs and submarines weren't included. Nonsense!
Fast action in the Med and spies with plans for Montgomery’s offensive.
Excellent characters, fascinating twists, and realistic sequences as this second book in the series follows the WWII North African conflict between the Allied forces in Egypt and Rommel’s Axis forces arming for a final push and victory. Timing is everything and critical information about target areas and launch dates is changed at the last minute to blunt the German led initiative. An interesting view and worth the time.
Very easy book to read and enjoy. The cast of characters fit the situation well. As far as navy submarine stories go most enjoyable for me. looking forward too the remaining series.
This was the second book in the Sinclair series and I found it more gripping and enjoyable than the first. You start to find out more about certain characters and find yourself having favorite characters. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series
A bit of a "Boys own" old fashioned book. Never heard of a RAN or RN man or woman that didn't swear on the odd occasion, even if it was Bloody hell. Submarine crewss running around chasing spy's way to over the top except for a 10 year old. Very poor writing plan and execution. It really only rated two or three staiat the best.
Great read lots of action and twists and turns throughout, you. Can see his progression and experience getting stronger. Looking forward to the next one
Significantly better than the first book in the series as it was much easier to get into. The story flowed better , & I found it an enjoyable read & a book that I would certainly recommend .
The begining of the story is excellent and really provides a strong impression what submarine life and wartime Med operations were like back in 1943. I'm affadi the end is poor when it descends into a secret agent opération, rather than a submarine story.
