With Maudsley’s death, the Marquis of Brockway, Brock to his friends, finally has an opportunity to right the wrongs from a decade earlier. But Lady Maudsley has no room in her heart for forgiveness where he’s concerned.
The Maudsley countess, Virginia Ennis’s life of horror ended with the death of her late husband, or so she’d believed. The stakes are much higher this time around. Placing her trust in Brock’s hands after he’d deserted her to a fate worse than death is asking too much. But someone is after her children, and trusting Brock is her only option in keeping them safe.
Kathy L Wheeler is an award winning author in her contemporary and historical romances that include suspenseful twists. Her current series Rebel Lords of London is now available beginning with The Earl's Error,. Number six, Captivated by His Countess is scheduled for March 7, 2023. :)
Kathy L Wheeler loves the NFL, the NBA, musical theater (don't ask how her how many times she's seen Phantom of the Opera (12); or Wicked (7)), travel, (Europe, Grand Cayman, Mexico, All over the US), reading (practically a book a night), writing (15 books and counting) and karaoke (well....what can I say). She assists other authors in critiquing, formatting, and creating covers for their publishing dreams.
She writes contemporary and historical stories where the heroines save themselves and the heroes who honor their courage with suspense and humor.
She recently migrated from Oklahoma to the Pacific Northwest with her musically talented, lawyer husband, her adorable dog Angel (who lives up to her name...mostly) and their snooty cat (who is truly a snob), Carly.
This story picks up a year after the last one ended. This story is about Brock and Ginny. After coming out from a year of mourning, Ginny runs into Brock at a party and tries her best to stay away from him. Upon seeing Ginny, Brock is more determined to make her his. He regretted in letting her get away all those years ago and was determined not to make the same mistake. While pursuing her, Brock is also helping Thorne find his missing brother-in-law. Ginny has the attention of a couple of unwanted suitors, but she is determined to put her daughters above everyone else. After what had happened with Irene, she doesn't like being too far away from them. Little does she realize that in not wanting to stay away from her girls, she is keeping her youngest safe. I loved the chemistry between the two and both girls were adorable. The book had a couple of surprises that I wasn't expecting, which broke my heart. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
what a great story and well written. It's takes off from the first two books and keeps you want I g and reading the pages as fast your thumbs will turn the pages. The characters are wonderful. For 10 years Lord Brock has loved Ginny always wanting to make up for past mistakes and Ginny finally comes to her senses and then get their HEA would highly recommend. :)
This is the third book (including the prequel) of the Rebel Lords of London series. I have not read the second book, and I believe it would be more beneficial if you read the books in order. Not quite a standalone, but very enjoyable nonetheless. It's a captivating tale that I easily got caught up in and it kept my interest till the end. The story has drama, intrigue, scandal, and of course romance, which kept me hooked and turning the pages, anxious to see what happens next. The Marquis of Brockway and Lady Maudsley have a second chance at love, but after what happened years ago, she just may not trust him enough to give him that second chance. But circumstances leave her no choice but to trust him with the safety of her and her children. Her mind does not want to risk loving him again, but her heart just may have other ideas. A wonderful story with endearing characters - definitely recommend!
I was given a complimentary advanced reader's copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review.
This is the 3rd book, if you count the prequel (that I highly recommend reading), in the Rebel Lords of London series. Kathy L. Wheeler has done another outstanding job on writing an engrossing story - this time for Ginny, Lady Maudlsey, and Brock sometimes referred to as John, the Marquis of Brockway. Both characters intrigued me from the prequel and I was thrilled that they got their own chance at a happily ever after in this tale. If you like intrigue, suspense and romance then this book is a good bet for your next read. I loved the combination of tension, mystery and allure and although I found some aspects of the story both heartbreaking and tense I loved the novel. Ginny’s children, Irene and Cecilia, play major parts in this story and I thought that the author did an amazing job of creating two distinct but appealing and believable personalities. The book does a great job of solving some of the mysteries of the main characters while leaving the reader intrigued with what comes next. I can’t wait to read the next two books and hope that their are more tales to tell in this marvellous series.
Nope. This book was awful!! I don't believe the romance between the 2 MCs because he left for 10 years and she was horribly abused. He comes back and is horrible to her and possessive! And not in a good way. None of it worked.
I did not like the Earl's Error, the first book of Ms Wheeler I read, and should have given it 2 stars not 3. This book would receive a "3" instead of "4" because this is the story of Ginny and Brock, a lovely man. These books were ahistorical, and instead of the magic of history for those of us seeking escape who are interested mightily in historical accuracy--they deal with domestic abuse and child trafficking and rape. Of course these horrible incidences occurred in the past, however, I did not expect to find them in these books. The novels are interspersed with graphic sex scenes juxaposed to these horrendous events.
"The Marquis's Mistep" by Kathy Wheeler was emotionally hard to read but it grabbed my emotions right away. Some readers may find parts of this book hard to read but the author is trying to use a situation that is as old as civilization to jolt readers into understanding how this kind of abuse has never stopped and it present in our modern world. It is a very thought-provoking read. I gave it 5 stars.
Chose not to read this book, nor any of the others to come. The details from the previous book showed how the rest of the series would pan out and I, for one, could not stomach the subject matter this author chose to highlight in her books.
This story by Kathy Wheeler is very good. I can't explain how much I enjoyed this book. The suspense and intrigue was very good and it had a happy ending. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good read.
The H left the h 10 years earlier, which led to 10 years of her being horribly abused and beaten. But, the H kept smirking at her, grabbing and pulling on her, and being an arrogant possessive jerk. Could not continue past 45%.
