The second fantastic book in this series about four friends who want to make the world a better place. Izzy and Willow are being taken for a walk along the river by Emily's boisterous dog, Billy, when he decides to chase after a water-rat. Both animals land in the river, which is so choked with rubbish that Billy can't get out. His paw is stuck in an old bike wheel and the girls must work to free him. The adventure gives Izzy a great idea for their next project, though, and it's a very very muddy one... A brilliant series about the small changes that make a big difference from bestselling author Holly Webb. With cover illustration by Owen Gildersleeve.
Holly Webb is one of Britain's best-loved children's writers. She has written over a hundred books for children, and her work has been translated into over thirty languages. Holly lives in Tilehurst, just outside of Reading, Berkshire, with her husband, three children and several cats.
River Rescue is the second book in the Earth Friends books by Holly Webb. The series contains strong themes about helping the environment and friendship. The books involve four friends, Maya, Poppy, Emily and Izzy, who undertake environmental projects and have fun along the way.
After the success of the girls’ first venture, their teacher encourages them to come up with another idea for an environmental project. Izzy comes up with a proposal for cleaning up the local river reserve. This idea comes about as a result of Poppy and Izzy taking Billy, Poppy’s dog, for a walk along the river. Billy chases a water rat into the river and only just manages to avoid serious injury from all the debris choking the river.
This story focuses on Izzy’s growing confidence which has taken a battering as a result of being bullied by some other girls in her class. Like the other books in the series, the story shows the importance of small changes making a big difference in the lives of others.
The 2nd book in the new 'Earth Friends' children's fiction series. The whole series is very good and follows four friends - Izzy, Maya, Poppy and Emily as they do things to help the planet. I recommend this book for kids around age 8 to 13 (middle grade) as the series also focuses lots on the girls' friendships and how bullying makes the main characters feel. This book is about how an idea of Izzy's ends up transforming an overgrown piece of land into the nice nature reserve it used to be.
