Still having questions about the new world he's been dropped into, Ethan has more pressing concerns figuring out who or what is killing the wizards. Unfortunately, the only source of those answers seems to be the members only library of the Order of the Scroll. Of course, he can join and read all the books he wants - but there's a catch. The custodians of the library first want him to retrieve some lost tomes from an abandoned library in a ruined city. Seems simple, right? Not a chance. Did they forget to mention that no one who's entered the library has ever returned? To make matters worse, Ethan almost kills himself learning a new type of magic, but it might just be the key to making it out of this crazy adventure alive. Join Ethan and friends in the second exciting installment of the Abduction Cycles!
This is the first time in years that I have used the 0.25 stars in my rating. I consider a 3 star book okay and 2.75 stars "not bad". There is a little difference. I finished this book and nothing triggered by pet peeves but there were many problems with the book. Overall it was to generic. The MC is the only one with any substance. All the secondary character act more like tertiary characters. They are one dimension and some of them don't serve a purpose. I hate the dwarf. All she does is eat twice as much food as everyone else, complain and get wasted. She has brought nothing to the group. At least the elf is able to heal. There was very little dialogue between the characters and way to much exposition. I flipped through pages and pages of descriptions until I found dialogue. The whole purpose of the story was lacking. Probably not going to continue the series.
The only disappointment I feel is that the next book isn't out yet
Things are ramping up and I hope the next book comes soon.i want to know why wizards are having their brains stolen,I want to know what the queen and her brain sucking creatures are and I want to see more from this world, like why it was formed, why were different races placed on this world,is the magic really magic,is this really a simulation or reality, will the characters meet the abductors, what modifications were made to the characters, will the dwarf grow beyond being hangry all the time,I can hardly wait for the next book
I love the story and the world building but really disappointed by the one dimensional female characters in this book. It’s even more apparent when a side character (the other wizard) gets more developed than any of the companions the MC travelled with. Even the kobold has more of a character arc than the women in the story. It really takes me out of the story flow when most of MC’s interactions with his female companions that he spent most of his time with boil down to food and sex.
Ethan is sent to retrieve lost tombs set of 3 books to return to the Order of the Scrolls .
Ethan saves a town from a attack engineered by the previous mayor for excavation of a tomb in a silver mine. the tomb was enchanted an killed whoever tried to steal is contents which was the previous mayor himself so he was killed by the tomb itself . Ethan kills a band of goons that was keeping the village hostage an from other attacks as well. Freeing the village .recommend reading excellent series .
DAMN ... I read so many of these and hope to get a series ... often finding the First is a really good ' one-fer 'and it takes untill 3 or four to hit the roll ... other than proofing ... the characters are STRONGER ... their personal traits as well as the bond between them as a tribe (?) ... stronger and TOTALLY different from many others I have read.
While I enjoyed this book, I must say that I was listening to it while doing outside work in my yard, so that was a bit part of it, I think.
There are a lot of things in it that feel like the story is railroaded and while that can be good while you are stuck in it, reading to find out what happens to the character, once the story is over you do feel a bit cheated.
Really wondering what's going to happen in the next two books, but giving it some time to really get back into it.
Actually liked this better than the 1st book and enjoyed the character progression. One thing though the dwarf is just too annoying when it comes time for a companion to die author please do the right thing and pick her.. she's selfish, lacks self control, rude and generally not an asset to the team.
It is rare that the sequel even lives up even lives up to the 1st usually the first installment is the bait on the hook. It is even for the second installment to be much better than the first. But this is the case in this series so far full stop if you have come across this book please go and read the first volume.
This was a very entertaining light read. The MC is not incredibly over powered nor is he a total idiot. I did find that the solutions to problems seemed way more complex than they needed to be but that is ok.
This was a great continuation of the series. The MC is developing nicely and the support characters are being flushed out, although the elf could do for some more time to develop more. She kind of fell to the side lines as a character.
This was a great read and follow up to the first book. Good character development, tie ups on the plot and a portent of things to come. Can’t wait for the next one!
I like the MC and seeing him use his brain to solve problems. It’s would be great to see him grow his magic and capabilities. Can’t wait for the third book!
Why have 1% skill gains when you have no idea how much increasing a skill actually improves anything? Seems like useless stats for the sake of stats imo.
Good continuation to the series. It could be a bit better in places, as it did seem to be a bit slow here and there, but otherwise, quite the nice addition to the LitRPG genre.
