The first collection of the fantasy art of this husband and wife team, which features around 100 of their paintings which are a blend of myth, folklore and legend. Text by Nigel Suckling.
I am slowly coming to the end of my Paper Tiger collecting - either they are far too expensive (even I struggle to justify £145 for a book which equals £10 a page) or they just are not coming on to the market - the curse of any defunct publisher I guess.
However not yet - so here is the next book I have found the Garlands a husband and wife team with very similar styles. This book is a great read - both with the history behind how each item can to be to the styles and imagery used in it.
What I loved most about this books is that there are so many images I recognise - from books on illustrations of Tolkien to the early Fantasy books I started to read in my early days of reading - this book holds so much nostalgia for me - not to mention that lovely book smell.
I wish I had more time to think and write more deeply on the nature of both Garlands art. This book is illuminating about the character and history of the Garlands and the art is lovely, showing many images I had never seen before. 'Circe' and 'Ruby' from Linda were standouts.
