I did enjoy this book but found some of it didn't relate to me and my situation. I am in a happy relationship, just after our 3 year anniversary, we also live together so spend every day together outside of work.
Each chapter is sectioned into bits about being single, finding someone and starting out together, having kids, getting married, getting through arguments, then moving on.
The marriage and kids didn't relate much as we don't really want either, we don't argue much as if we disagree, we talk and it doesn't really get to the shouting stage.
I'm also unsure what age range this book is aimed for as some people reading could be 40+, happily married, had kids etc, the single section and kids wouldn't relate as been there, done that.
I enjoyed reading the sections fully and will take bits from each but maybe some sections need to be in a separate book.

Honestly, not great. The tone was far too bloggy for me, with random stories and cliché catchphrases thrown in, and not enough actual info. I like my NF books to be backed up by science, so even just some of the psychology behind the random statements in this book would be better. I think the useful info in this book was great, but could have been condensed to less than 30 pages and I found myself skimming the book. There were just pages of paragraphs in talking speech that I felt were repeating the same thing but trying to stretch the word count out like a student writing an essay. Overall I’m sure this person is a great relationship coach and maybe even a good blogger, but not a good author (imo).
I bloody love Anna Williamson.I think she is awesome. I love her podcast Luanna too! So it really does pain me to give this book such a low star rating, but I will explain my reasons.
I have read Anna WIlliamson's previous book on anxiety, and it's one of my favourites on the topic. It was so spot on, and I could relate to so much in that book. I was hoping for the same with this book - unfortunately that wasn't the case. This book took itself too seriously, it had no tongue-in-cheek about it. No humour. Also, I found a lot of this to be stating the obvious. It was all a bit too dense, and I didn't get Williamson's usual voice coming through in the writing. It was a bit patronising too in places.
I didn't enjoy this, but it hasn't put me off reading other books by her in the future.
I love Anna and her book on anxiety was one of the best I've ever read, so with being a single mum I thought this book would be helpful for when the time came to explore dating again. However, I really didn't connect with much of this. I'm not sure if it was the blog style writing or the speed in which it went from one stepping stone to another. Although it gave me the opportunity to think a bit deeper about myself and what I want from relationships, I was disappointed in the lack of actual advice in regards to dating, etc. In this day and age, I think most of us comes with some form of baggage, so it was a shame for it to not get covered. It was all a bit too unicorns and roses for me. That being said, Teens and those just starting out in the serious relationship world, would probably be a perfect audience for this book, but for a more mature person it may need to be expanded into maybe 2 books, one for dating and another for relationships.
This has got a very broad scope, covering dating, relationships, marriage, kids, and breakups. With that wide variety of topics to cover, it can't go too deep, but it's a good basic guide for relationship skills and tips. None of the advice is particularly new or revolutionary (keep a positive attitude while dating, fight fair, prioritize intimacy, etc) it's still necessary and it's presented in a light, conversational way. Anyone new to relationships or back on the market after a long time could find this a pleasant and not-too-intimidating refresher.
A note for US readers: this is very much written in UK English (actual sentence: "many of us have not snogged like a hormonal teen at a disco for yonks"). The message is clear enough from context but it's heavily peppered with UK slang and phrasing.
Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!
I found Where is the Love? to be helpful, honest and insightful. Anna shares lots of practical tips that everyone can benefit from whether you're dating, married, or wanting to get serious in your relationship. The exercises n the book really gave me some food for thought for my own marriage and making sure that we as a couple prioritise time for each other as well as being parents, workers and wanting to do things separately. With thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is sectioned into different parts being single, finding someone and starting out together, then marriage and kids, getting through arguments and moving on.
I feel that maybe the book may have been better as two different books rather than the one. Perhaps one on the single and dating side then one for relationships.
I did like the way Anna explained things being to do with different aspects of life and how these factor into it. It was also interesting to see how things are perhaps perceived by the other person too.
I’m a huge Anna Williamson fan; from loving her on Luanna to Celebs Go Dating and enjoying previous books of her’s, but I unfortunately found this book too generalised, mostly opinion-based statements and without enough substance. I found the examples used to be focused on client’s experiences along with her own marriage, and her opinion on modern dating via apps to be completely different to my own and fellow peer’s recent experiences.
I think focusing on either dating or being in a relationship, or making this a longer book with an expanded area on each focus would have been better.
Helpful, honest, insightful for this new age of dating! Practical tips that everyone can benefit from. Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read an advanced reader copy!
