It was supposed to be a simple favor for my very important boss, Frank Kaminsky of the Salt Lake Slammers professional basketball team—go to his good friend Tex Jameson’s luxury ranch and provide personal medical care for his recently injured teenage son.
I thought it’d be a working vacation of sorts—a chance for my city-girl self to experience something I would never otherwise do—but everything is upside down, and absolutely nothing is as I thought it would be.
For one, this patient is not a teenage boy.
Not. Even. Close.
He’s a real-life, blue-eyed, tough-as-nails, thirtysomething cowboy who is so darn strong he looks like he could lift a car just for the heck of it.
He’s also stubborn, rude, and we don’t get along…at all.
Add in the heart-melting vision of him as a single dad to the cutest little girl on the planet, and I’ve found myself in a whole different dimension of trouble.
Lust. Feelings. A whole lot of enemies-to-lovers-style complication.
Please help me. If I’m not careful, this Grumpy Cowboy might just be the death of me.
Many moons ago, a dynamic duo of romance authors teamed up under the pseudonym Max Monroe, and, well, the rest is history...
Max Monroe is the New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author of more than thirty contemporary romance titles. Favorite writing partners and long time friends, Max and Monroe strive to live and write all the fun, sexy swoon so often missing from their Facebook newsfeed. Sarcastic by nature, their two writing souls feel like they’ve found their other half. This is their most favorite adventure thus far.
This grew on me - a LOT. I'm really not a fan of MM's new habit of devoting almost a hundred pages to comedy before our couple even spends any time on the page together, so it took me a long, long time before I became invested in this romance. I'd also use a different (less friendly) word to describe the grumpy cowboy at the heart of it, but he undergoes a complete transformation along the way - and won me over in the process. I loved the chemistry and connection in the back half, and there's (of course) plenty of comedy throughout. It's a sweet slow burn that warms up as the story goes on, and I seriously wish that the whole book had been as solid as the second half.
The story follows Rhett, a single dad working on the family ranch. Rhett's leg is still recovering from an injury, but he insists that he's fine and continues to overwork it on a daily basis. In an attempt to get Rhett to take his injury seriously, Rhett's father calls in a favor and has a doctor come stay at the ranch while he's healing. That just makes the already grumpy Rhett even moodier, and he takes out his frustration on Leah. She's a definite city girl who is completely out of her element on the ranch, and Rhett takes every opportunity to try her patience. But Leah is stronger than she looks, and it's not long before the two are forming a connection. Having Leah on the ranch begins to feel like the future Rhett never could've envisioned for himself.
I always look forward to MM's rom coms, because they frequently knock it out of the park. I'll openly admit that I haven't been enjoying the direction that their new releases have been heading (outlandish comedy over romance), but there's still so much to love about their work. And once this opposites attract romance gets the humor out of the way, the heart shines. I loved the sweet family moments with Rhett's daughter, and I loved seeing him turn into a kind, caring man. The chemistry and playfulness sparkle in the back half, and I would've happily rated this as 5 stars if the rest of the book had been that good. It just wasn't. The first half is a 3-star (at best) read for me, with a buildup that felt tedious and some humor that was kinda mean. I'm very glad that I didn't abandon ship in the beginning, because the back half was really great. With a stronger start, this could've been something pretty special. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this single dad romance.

WARNING: Prior to reading, it’s important for you to know that this book does come with risk. Duh Duh Duuuuuuuuh! Our editor complained several times of almost dying while reading and eating/drinking at the same time. We do NOT recommend that you attempt this.
INSTEAD...try one of these other acceptable behaviors:
1. Peeing your pants. We mean, hey, we’re practically all doing it these days anyway, are we right? Why not do it from laughing your little booty off!
2. Falling in love with a new book boyfriend. It’s not really cheating if one of the guys is fictional. Repeat that to yourself. You’re going to need it while reading Rhett Jameson.
3. Forgetting about your family. (Don’t worry, this is only temporary. Once you devour Grumpy Cowboy, you will come out of your romantic-comedy-induced-trance and should be back to normal within 48-72 hours.) In the meantime, have several frozen meals on hand.
OKAY, BUT SERIOUSLY, HOW MUCH FUN IS THIS BOOK? Even your astrologer thinks Grumpy Cowboy is orbiting just the right moon for you!
Your Love Horoscope: Make a love potion, swirl it up, and the answer to your heartache just might be a swoony freaking grump.
I'm going to have to put this on the back burner for now.
It is really frustrating to read/listen to books about Cowboys from people that don't know squat about them. For me, the writing was pretty lazy and dialogue was overly dramatic.
I wanted to keep going because HELLO, there's a new narrator I hadn't heard of. Tor Thom even his freaking name is sexy!!!!
I'm going to put this back on the shelf until I'm out of other things to listen to.
4 Little Star Is Born Stars * * * * Spoiler Free Max Monroe is a combination of two terrific authors, with success on their own. When these two minds get together, share life experiences, and then laugh hysterically about all they have done, we benefit. Grumpy Cowboy comes from these minds melding on something they each had to share about men and ranch life. Lucky us.
Dr. Leah Levee is on her way to having the career she has always wanted. As an orthopedic specialist, she landed the position of the second doctor for Utah's NBA team. This was a huge move from private practice and she had hoped to become THE team's doc down the line. When her boss asks her to go to a ranch and take care of a friend's 14-year-old son for the next two months, sounds like there is no turning it down.
Why would she... She would get a relaxing vacation/work time out on a dude ranch. Sounds like something fun and she would be making points with her boss, win/win.
Rhett Jameson has been The Man of Rodeo. Lots of Winning Buckles, lots of Buckle Bunnies, and a huge mistake with the Rodeo Queen. She was the mistake, not the adorable daughter Josephine. Nope, Josie/Joe was the best thing that ever happened, and stepping away from the circuit was the smart decision. It also was his responsibility to take the ranch over from his stubborn dad, as this land had been theirs for generations.
Rhett was happy with his life, focused on work and Joe but one night hanging with past buddies caused him to let his ego take over his actions, and bam, messed up knee and leg. Rhett was laid up and recovering from his surgeries but once he was put on a walking brace, he was not doing anything his doctor wanted. Instead, he was stubbornly behaving as if he knew better and his working on the leg not letting it heal properly.
When his dad realized what his son was doing, which didn't surprise him at all, he called his best friend, the team owner. He asked if the team's doc could come and handle his son. The owner was happy to send Leah.
Now Leah, city girl, high heels, designer clothes, thinks she is going to a "ranch" to rehab a 14-year-old kid. She gets off the private plane and sees lots of land...Tiny, the ranch manager, picks her up, looks at how she is dressed, and knows this is going to be "something".
After talking with Tex, Rhett's dad, she heads out to Rhett's house on the ranch. She is impressed with the beauty and is aware, things are not as easy as she thought...no WiFi, Cell Service Spotty, and lots of dirt. She pulls up to the house, the door swings open and the cutest little 5-year-old girl stands there. She welcomes Leah and invites her in.
And Then Leah Meets Rhett. He Is Not 14, He Is A Man...A Fine Specimen Of A Man, Oh Lord, With No Shirt On. With A Brace On His Leg.
Are You Kidding Me....Leah wants to just die. This was not what she signed up for. The man is being ridiculous, rude, and smug. The only thing worth her time is this adorable child. A real fireball, 5 going on 35.
Rhet is furious with his dad thinking he needs a babysitter while he heals. He knows what needs to be done and wants this woman gone. If she thinks she is going to make him do anything, she has another thing coming.
The setup is perfect. The clashing of personalities, the assumptions, the stubborn mistakes, and the final realizations of what was at stake works. All of the characters work, but I have to say the scene-stealer was JoJo, as Leah called Rhett's daughter. A True Star was Born.

See it’s quite simple really, everyone and their moms know that Rom-Coms are the way to my heart. What most people probably don’t know? That the Cowboy Trope is next in the lead. So, when I found out that the amazingly talented Max Monroe was going to write not only one, but two of my favorite tropes, I knew my dreams were about to come true. What I didn’t anticipate? How Max Monroe surpassed every expectation and then some that I had. The Grumpy Cowboy was fluffing fantastic. It had everything and MORE. As I’m sure everyone is aware, this duo of authors holds the reining title of the “Rom-Com Queens” and after reading this, that title still holds true.
The Grumpy Cowboy was an original that truly captured my heart, and in true Max Monroe fashion they poured the development into Rhett and Leah’s one of a kind story. I not only loved the dual POV, but I loved loved loved seeing another persons point of view as well. The pace was absolutely perfect, and the overall plot line was even better. I could never describe my love for the lol moments that came with the witty dialogue. That was some too notch stuff, but these characters? They are something special, every last one of them. Each gave such a unique view of their way of living/thinking, and it truly was a site to behold. And little Josephine was honestly the best little side character I have ever read about. She made this story even better. The Grumpy Cowboy is love. Love is every where in this book, rather that be tough love, or many different variations of love. When it came to Rhett and Leah’s romance, it was like foreplay, and when things really got going? Boy oh boy did they burn them pages up.
I can gladly say this is by far my favorite book I’ve read this year. Max Monroe has upped the ante in the Romance world. I can’t wait to see what the the future holds. I am however hoping we get some more cowboys though.
This was a fun read to get me out of my slump. It is an enemies to lovers, slow burn, small town romance. Gorgeous and smart orthopedic doctor Leah is tricked into helping single dad and grumpy rancher Rhett recover from his knee injury. These two clash right from their first meeting. But all that fire turns into sizzling hot chemistry and something like love as they start spending more time together.
Certain scenarios in the book seemed highly unlikely to occur in real life. But I guess you must open yourself up to the unlikely and impossible while reading romance. These situations were, after all, necessary for the story to flow seamlessly and the relationship to build between the MCs.
Leah's childhood and parents are referred to in short at various points in the book. But I felt that there could have been greater emphasis on the effects of such a past on her current life and relationships. I find that talking about a character's back story is pointless if its not going to be talked about in at least a little detail.
Lets talk about the characters now. Leah is a determined, smart and also bright character who does not give up in the face of challenges. Rhett's daughter, Joey is adorable and most of all, written like a real child. Rhett's family and the other secondary characters help bring in the sense of a close knit community and found family to this story. Rhett is your classic grumpy cowboy with a deep love for his daughter and a secret heart of gold. There are also plenty of laugh out loud moments that are vey well placed and makes this book that much better.
Overall, Grumpy Cowboy was a fun and chill read you can pick up if you are looking for low angst and low drama.
If I’m lucky, I can get him to pick up an ax and swing it around before I leave, at least. You know, just to see what those muscles look like when put to use.
Why, dear authors, do you ruin your books with third-act breakups again and again? Okay, fine, sometimes it might be acceptable for dramatic reasons, but this was not one of those times. This was one of the dumbest and most unnecessary third-act breakups I’ve ever witnessed in an otherwise nice book. The misunderstanding in their final conversation is just ridiculous and annoying. The only thing their breakup adds is thirty more pages. I can do without that trick, thank you very much.
Before, it was a cute and funny slow burn romance with lots of banter, good for 4 stars. I mean, it’s Max Monroe, so it was pretty unrealistic and over the top, but I still enjoyed it with all the absurdities like the bull sperm collection scene (see below) or Leah exercising the horses, much to Rhett’s amusement. “I’ve had the pleasure of watching her run around the pasture like a maniac. Jumping jacks, sprints, lunges, squats—you name it, and she’s out there doing it to an audience of about ten confused-as-fuck horses.” I’m usually not a big fan of comedy, but Max Monroe’s comedy works for me.
I also liked both main characters. Given, Leah puts up with an incredible amount of bullshit from the man she’s supposed to be helping and is sometimes pretty naive for a doctor (see above). But she’s also relentless, determined, and very nice, especially to Rhett’s five-year-old daughter. The grumpy cowboy is quite the jackass. He comes across like a mama's boy and not very mature, despite his 36 years of age. Risking his health, and thus his future (and that of his daughter!) is simply idiotic. At the beginning he’s unbearably stubborn and self-righteous, but under Leah’s steady influence he changes and it’s nice to watch. Their love story evolves beautifully and it’s a shame that it’s ruined by this stupid breakup.
Somewhat irritating was the additional POV of Rhett’s father (4 or 5 chapters, I think). The book is written in first person, dual POV, and Tex’ POV adds some additional information. It seemed pointless, though. Everything you learn could have been told in dialogue with Leah and Rhett. It seemed to me—just like the breakup—like a pad out of pages.
“What…and I mean this in the nicest, most non-offensive way possible…but what in the ever-loving hell is going on here?” There’s a big boy cow, up on his hind legs, his giant horns stretched way out to each side of his head, and a man stands at his side with a tube of some sort in his hand. There’s another big cow or whatever in front of it, just sort of standing there while someone holds its head in a fenced-in area with a lead line. And it’s very apparent the big boy cow is thinking he’s getting some bow chicka wow wow action. Literally. The guy with the horns is in full-on hump mode, and I don’t really understand how or why. Obviously, I get why he’s in the mood to hump—he has a penis. But why he’s doing it into a large tube held within a man’s hand is a different question entirely. “Longhorn bull sperm collection.”
Does this author know what a physical therapist is?
Did this author posit a world in which an orthopedic surgeon wears heels during surgery?
Does this book end when an independent, self-made, highly skilled physician gives up her life’s work (with ZERO professional angst about it) to become married to a man-child?
All the answers to those questions and more in this underwhelming ranch romance!
Well, butter my biscuit and call me darlin’. Max Monroe have gone country!
Rhett, is the hot, single dad cowboy of your dreams! He has an adorable and feisty little girl named Joey and he is working on taking over the family ranch. One night out with friends and a walk to the wild side reliving his rodeo glory days, leave him with a severe leg injury. Not one to sit around and wait to heal, he continues to work and push his limits despite the pain. Then, hold your horses, meddling parents are fixin’ to be as busy as a cat on a hot tin roof! A city doctor (a single pretty as a peach gal) named Leah is hired to come to the ranch to ensure he follows doctor orders and gets the care he needs to actually heal. She doesn’t know her patient is a grown grumpy man as she was told he was a 14 year old boy. Total opposites and both stubborn and unwilling to admit defeat or give in, hilarity soon commences as they try not to let the other one get the upper hand. I don’t want to spoil any of the hilarious scenarios that happen on the ranch; you need to read those for yourself!
Well, I declare, Max Monroe are funny as all get out and you’d have to be plumb crazy not to read this rhinestone. So grab a chair, crack open this book and read until the cows come home!
Rhett had an amazing career in rodeo that all changed one day when he became a single dad to his gorgeous daughter Josephine (Joey.) There was simply no time to be out indulging in a sport that carries a high risk when he had his wee girl to consider now.
Rhett lives on the family ranch that he will one day take over. His parents Tex & Jenny live in the main homestead and have provided him with fantastic support & help with Joey. The ranch is hugely busy and Rhett pulls long hours each week. When Rhett gets himself injured one night, Tex decides that if his adult son is going to behave like a boy he is going to need a babysitter to make sure he is doing what he is told to recover. This is how Leah comes into their life.
Leah is about to start a new job as a team doctor with a high profile sports team when her new boss decides to temporarily reassign her for a couple of months to help out his old mate Tex. All she knows is that his son has a leg injury he needs help with and that he is 14 years old. So yeah, some wires got crossed somewhere because Rhett is no gangly teenage boy, he is a fully grown man who doesn’t want to entertain the idea of a doctor in his space every day.
Rhett is not happy about his father deciding what’s best for him but Joey is beside herself with excitement over meeting Leah. These two connect instantly and it doesn’t escape Leah’s notice that Joey’s mother is MIA in her life. Rhett really does try to put Leah through her paces to see how tough she is but she slowly worms her way into his good graces. They become good friends whilst dancing around their attraction to each other.
This romance is a slow burning one. There is definitely a bit of instant attraction but that just makes things more interesting as they try to resist what is happening between them. Rhett was not looking for someone new in his life but being with Leah is more than he could have ever imagined. She is everything he had no idea he had been looking for and she just fits so perfectly with him and Joey.
Neither of them expected to feel so much in such a short time so saying goodbye is going to be tough. Rhett knows that trying to maintain something long distance simply won’t work. He belongs on the ranch and she is just beginning her career in the city. This story begins with a grumpy cowboy and if he doesn’t get his shit together it will end that way too.
Joey completely steals the show every time she appears in this story. I just loved all of the scenes that she was in. Her connection with Leah was so cute. This was really easy to read, low angst and plenty of laugh out loud moments. This is the third story in the single dad collection, they are all complete stand alone with no connection.
Awful. I stopped at around 25%. The H's character was dumb as a rock. She had a week to make a decision about the job opportunity, but somehow never found 5 minutes to google the ranch so she knew what to expect? She's a doctor, but is surprised there is "cows and sh*t" on a ranch. She wears stilettos on the plane there. And per the book it's not unusual for her to wear heels during surgery. Insert major eyeroll. Oh, can't forget about her favorite Pucci dress, which after all its mentions, it became another character to me. I would never want her to be my doctor if she's that clueless. I stopped when she showed up for dinner at the ranch owner's house with a bottle of wine. A bottle she just so happened to bring on the plane with her as a thank you gift to the owners for the job. What is she thanking them for? It's a JOB. Who brings wine to their new job? I lost track how many times I mumbled "oh FFS...."
I’m so annoyed with both characters that I’m afraid it will colour the rest of the book. The h is so ignorant about so many things (like wearing a designer dress and heels to a ranch and being shocked that there is cow & horse dung on the ground). While the H seems like nothing more than a fully-grown sulky teenager. They haven’t even met yet in the story but I really don’t want to invest in their story. So, I’m just going to stop here.
I usually love MM’s books, so I feel a bit guilty for dropping this one so soon.
I was so excited to hear that Rhett was getting his own story. I was definitely not disappointed at all. Rhett and Leah are a match made in heaven and their banter was priceless. Add in an adorable 5 yr old and Joey will definitely melt your heart. I was laughing, smiling and got teary eyed while reading this book. This will definitely pull on your heartstrings. The ending was perfect and exactly the ending I was hoping for.
I voluntarily reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Leah is the second-in-command ortho-doctor for an NFL team in Salt Lake City, Utah. Her boss sends her to a ranch in the middle of nowhere for 8-weeks to rehabilitate a patient with a knee injury as a favor for a close friend. When Leah arrives, she discovers she was deceived about her patient for the next two months. Rhett is not a teenager, but a 36-year old man with quite the attitude.
Rhett used to ride broncos on the rodeo circuit but quit it all when he became a single father to his daughter, Joey, 5-years ago. But after a crazy night with his buddies, he totally screwed up his knee. Rhett should be taking it easy, but that word isn’t in his vocabulary. And now he’s pissed his dad has hired a glorified babysitter to watch over him.
Leah & Rhett can’t stand one another and butt heads at every turn. But before long, Leah is smitten with Rhett’s little girl & Rhett can’t help but fall head over heels for his physical therapist.
Grumpy Cowboy by Max Monroe is book 3 in the Single Dads Collection, although this can be read as a complete stand-alone. This had so many things that I loved: single father, cowboys, enemies to lovers, grumpy/sunshine. I fell hard for this book! It’s a slow-burn romance since nothing truly happens between the two MCs until around the 75% mark. I was expecting tons of funny moments (which there were plenty) but what I wasn’t expecting was to shed some tears toward the end. Highly recommend this one! 4.5/5 stars.
Max Monroe's Grumpy Cowboy deserves a might "yee haw." It takes the sweetness and humor of the usual Max Monroe fare. It mixes in a cowboy angry with the direction of his life: taking on his family's ranch in the shadow of his father, having to turn away from a future of rodeo riding, and handling his adorable daughter without her mama who would rather be a rodeo queen. Add to that a horrible accident that leaves him unable to adequately do his job. And add to that a heroine who is an up and coming orthopedist ready to kick his butt if he doesn't take the proper care of himself. All of these elements work together to create a fantastic story with a sprinkling of slow burn chemistry, opposites attracting, and a sweet happily ever after. Grumpy Cowboy is the perfect read for right now.
Rhett is the type of character who is equal parts compelling and crotchety. It's actually interesting how long it takes for him to recognize his interest in Leah. Much of the story is him putting Leah through her paces. It's in those moments when the humor you come to expect from Max Monroe is found. Rhett creates a gauntlet of sorts for Leah to run as a way to run her off. This portion of the book will make you chuckle as you can see their burgeoning attraction.
Even better, the character of Leah is Rhett's perfect foil and romantic partner. She keeps Rhett guessing and she challenges him in ways that no one else in the story can. As their interest grows, for me, their story feels more serious. There is still Max Monroe's signature humor sprinkled in, but once Rhett fully sees Leah, the vulnerability of their interest in the other lends seriousness and adoration to the romance.
Along with Rhett and Leah's journey is the addition of Rhett's daughter, Joey. Joey adds a sweetness to this tale, and Leah's ready acceptance of her makes you love her character even more.
In the end, this cowboy romance is exactly what you can expect from Max Monroe: funny, fierce, and fabulous. If you want a quick read for the weekend, order Grumpy Cowboy today.
Leah + Rhett. Rhett is a 36 year old single dad who used to be a rodeo star. Now he's working at his family's horse/cow ranch slash Dude Ranch. Which he is supposed to take over one day soon - says dad Tex. 33 year old Leah was just hired as a doctor for the Salt Lake City professional basketball team. But her new boss has another job for her first. Two months on a ranch to 'nurse' the owner's son back to health after a riding accident that shattered his knee. City girl Leah is expecting a teenager - not a super hot and grumpy single dad!

ADORABLE!
I loved this! The perfect city-girl falls for grumpy cowboy rom-com!
I was a tiny bit worried in the first chapter where we meet Rhett. There were soo many people in this chapter - so many rodeo guys. I was afraid that I had to remember them all. But nope, it was just a slightly weird and confusing first chapter that didn't really grab me like it should have. But that was probably just me and my weird brain.🤣 After that it got so much better. I just adored this book. Rhett and Leah, grandma Jenny and especially little Joey. So adorable! There were so many hilarious farm-moments with city-girl Leah. LOL!
I've read every single one of Max Monroe's books so far - and I will keep on reading them until eternity! Those girls know how to entertain their readers!
How are none of their books streaming their behinds off on Netflix yet? The world is a weird and sad place!!
GRUMPY COWBOY was such a hilarious and sparky and adorable city-girl falls for grumpy cowboy hottie love story! Hurry to your nearest amazon for your own Rhett - he'll be sold out in no time!
Tiny little thing ... The cover? To me ... this guy doesn't look like a hot grumpy cowboy. He looks like an acting school drop-out who is auditioning for an adult movie! Rhett wouldn't be standing/looking like that. Am I the only one seeing this? The straw in his mouth and the ridiculous look in his eyes? So weird. 🤷♀️
I am loving this Single Dad series! First, Joey, the daughter is super cute and sassy which I love, mix in a fish out of water and a hot cowboy and you have your new favorite Max Monroe read. No spoilers but there is a certain scene involving farm work that is one of the funniest things I have ever read in a novel!
Rhett and Leah’s story is written in first person from multiple POV. In addition to Rhett and Leah, the reader will get a few chapters from the perspective of Rhett’s father, Tex. I love the grumpy hero thing. And Rhett is the perfect grumpy hero, Leah comes into his life without his permission, and without her having all the facts. I love their banter, but I love Leah’s stubbornness and her backbone even more. She takes what Rhett throws at her and ups the ante. (There is a scene that involves bull sperm collection that was very, very funny.) Leah is smart, confident, and loving. I adore the relationship she forms with Rhett’s daughter, Joey. There is so much to love! And that kid is 5 going on 30- so sassy. I just loved her. Rhett is such a good dad. I really enjoyed getting to know him and what makes him such a gruff cowboy at times. I loved that he had his mom and dad and his ranch family to support him and Joey. I really appreciated his straight talk and take no-crap attitude. The story packs a lot of heat, though many might consider it a bit of a slow burn. There are several funny moments. It is not as funny as some other books by this author duo, but it is certainly one of the most romantic. There are some seriously romantic scenes in this book. Fireworks on a blanket, dancing in the moonlight, and a swoon-worthy grand gesture were all there to melt my heart into a puddle of goo. The bonus epilogue is especially heart-warming, and we get a glimpse of Jake Holley, Garrett, and Lauren from the other single dad books. I enjoyed the ranch setting and the aspect of the city girl getting her first ranch experience immensely. Rhett is a real cowboy on a working modern ranch, and it was fun and interesting to read about that lifestyle. Honestly, it makes me ant to be on a ranch a bit. If you like grumpy heroes, cowboys, strong heroines and an extra-cute kid, do not miss this one. You will love it. I am voluntarily leaving this honest review after receiving an advance reader copy of the book.
In this installment of this series, we meet grumpy Rhett, a single father who injured his knee but not following doctor's orders for his recovery and Leah, an orthopedic doctor who has been loaned to Rhett's family to ensure that his recovery goes smoothly. From their first meeting, the pair where like oil and water. Rhett was resentful of the intrusion in his recovery made Leah's job a living hell at first but slowly relented to letting her treat him. Leah, determined to be successful in her career sees Rhett as a challenge that she must tackle. With the more time that this pair spend together, the more their attraction to one another grows.
This was a hot and LOL type read and that is before one meets Rhett's daughter Joey. Once Joey enters the picture you get the added bonus of her whit and cuteness. The antics that the pair pull on one another was at times LOL funny while the chemistry between them was off the charts and scorching at times making it almost palpable. Each one comes to the table with baggage - Rhett with his issues with Joey's mother and Leah with her past of growing up with alcoholic parents who were not present for her or her brother when growing up that they work through throughout this story. Watching this pair look for and find their HEA made this book a pleasurable read.
Overall, this was a LOL read that had me hooked from page one. I loved the characters and the plot - and that was before you add in Joey's over the top cuteness as well as her extra large personality. I could not get enough of the story and would recommend this book to others.
I absolutely loved this book from the moment I started reading. I pretty much had a smile on my face the entire time and laughed out loud several times. Rhett was a perfect grumpy cowboy and Leah was exactly who he needed to become less grumpy, lol. The chemistry was instantaneous between these two even when Rhett was his grumpy self trying to scare Leah away from the ranch. Fortunately Leah was made of stronger stuff than he expected and wasn’t scared away, in fact her attitude impressed him. The tests he gave Leah will crack you up because she does them and does them hilariously. I mean horse aerobics, dying laughing, and the bull “job”, seriously where does this come from, LOL. Leah is just so great. And I can not forget, Joey or JoJo, she was absolutely wonderful and I loved the relationship that Leah had with Rhett’s daughter. This was a fantastic, hilarious romcom and one you definitely want to read! And don’t forget to read the bonus extended epilogue, you do not want to miss it!
This is quintessential Max Monroe. Grumpy Cowboy is a sweet, funny, romantic, and sexy story! Rhett and Leah went from enemies to friends to lovers and made me laugh and swoon right along with them. And what can I say about Joey?? Jojo stole the show! She was so stinking cute and had the best personality. I loved how much Rhett loved her and I loved watching her and Leah fall in love with each other. Max Monroe definitely knows how to write the best light & funny romances. A quick and entertaining read for sure!

I'm a southern girl at heart, so Grumpy Cowboy certainly tickled my fancy! It has all the fixin's, especially the single day, sexy, bull headed and grumpy cowboy Rhett Jameson. Oh yes, he could be a major PITA but he was also so swoony and a true southern gentleman.
After a major injury, one he's not letting heal properly, his dad hires orthopedic doctor Leah Levee to oversee his rehab. She is just so perfect for him. She is up to the challenge of getting him to follow doctors orders and is hilarious doing it. I loved watching these two bicker back and forth, and I loved watching them get to their HEA.
Bonus to this story? Rhett's 5 year old daughter!! Gosh I just loved her and her sass.
Get ready to laugh hysterically and feel all the feels!
Grumpy Cowboy? Check. Swoony Single Dad? Check. Lots of muscles? Check. City Girl? Check. Badass Female Doctor? Check. LET'S DO THIS, BITCHES! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I really love Max Monroe because their books always make me laugh-out-loud! 𝗚𝗥𝗨𝗠𝗣𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗪𝗕𝗢𝗬 checks all the boxes. I loved this smart and stubborn female lead. Leah is driven and strong and not here for this cowboy's bullshit. I loved her fish-out- of-water moment when she arrives at the ranch in her heels and designer clothes! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And Rhett. WOWZA! Where do I sign up for a grumpy cowboy? He is so perfectly gruff and infuriatingly opposed to Leah's medical help. I loved his relationship with his daughter and his cranky exterior. His daughter is (HOORAY) a realistic little girl who has ups and downs. She is sweet, but not always a perfect angel, as is so often a problem with Single Parent Romances. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And I promise you, you will be a quivering mess of sexual anticipation by the time Rhett and Leah finally...FINALLY...seal the deal. Pssst....by "seal the deal" I mean have hot, muscled-cowboy sex. Yeeee-Haaaawww! It is HOT. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 𝗚𝗥𝗨𝗠𝗣𝗬 𝗖𝗢𝗪𝗕𝗢𝗬 is another winner from Max Monroe. I have loved each of the books in this Single Dads series and highly recommend them all! They are each VERY stand-alone so you can also read just one without a problem (but, like, read them ALL).
RATING:⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ STEAM LEVEL: Rated R TRIGGERS: emotionally distant parents, alcoholism, heart attack, parent abandonment FEELS-O-METER: 2/5: a bit of drama, but still a light read
I love a good cowboy romance but this one didn't do it for me. The H is a single dad who breaks his leg being an idiot and trying to impress his friends at 36. Then he proceeds to throw tantrums and refuse to rest and recover. Good thing the author keeps reminding us of his age, cause I would have guessed a whiny 19-21 year old. His dad has to intervene and recruit an unsuspecting physician, who works for a basketball team, to babysit him. He makes her chase him, literally, to do her job. The h, an orthopedic surgeon, is a smart and beautiful city girl. Talk about unnecessary credentials for this story. WTF? Can she tame him or at least help him grow up?
Throughout this whole story the H remains a child. His 5 year old actual child displays more insight and maturity than he does. The h, with a tragic history just wants love. Will she forgo her life's work for a man? I think you know the answer to that and it pissed me off. The only parts I liked about this story were the h and the child, super sweet.
After meeting Rhett and Joey in the extended epilogue for Hot Stuff, I was crossing my toes that they’d get their own book, because seriously? Hot cowboy with adorably precocious and sassy daughter? Um, yes, please...and OMG this book gave me everything I wanted and then some. It was all kinds of eye rolling, snort laughing fun, filled with great characters and a truly adorable 5 year old that scared and impressed me all at the same time (trust me, you’ll see after reading the book).
Rhett had me torn between swooning while my ovaries exploded and wanting to grab a 2x4 and Gibbs smack him with it ~ mostly in the first half of the book, but still ~ this man. He’s such a good man. He loves his daughter, his family and the ranch, but WOW is he all kinds of stubborn. Leah was a force and when she dug in her heels ~ whether in heels, boots or sneakers ~ she dug them in and didn’t give up. But for as stubborn as she could be, she had a golden heart that just drew you in. And then there is Miss Josephine aka Joey aka Jojo aka the most adorable, impressing yet scary five year old you’ll ever meet. She knows who she is and makes no apologies for it.
Their journey to their HEA was a rocky one ~ in many ways ~ but it was all kinds of fun. Rhett and Leah gave as good as they got and even when they were “enemies” they still had this chemistry that was undeniable. And once they got past the “enemies” thing...well, to say that they were meant to be is an understatement. But there always has to be wrench tossed into the mix, and it was and wasn’t a surprise, but I loved how everything worked out for them in the end.
This was simply a fun read. It has a great balance of all the things I love about a good romcom and then some. The “and then some” includes a great cast of secondary characters from Rhett’s family to the workers on the ranch to Leah’s own friends and family. They all added a lot of goodness to this book and I wouldn’t mind catching up with them at some point in the future.
What a wonderful, entertaining read from the very talented writing duo of Max Monroe, this is single dad Rhett Jameson and Leah Levee’s story and what a captivating tale they have to tell. I’m not sure where to start and what to say that will do this read justice so I guess I need to tell you how this book made me feel. In the world we live in we all need some diversion at times and Grumpy Cowboy is the book that will take you away from it all, the characters are easy to love and their story is captivating but once you add in an adorable little girl called Joey you get the perfect read. A stubborn cowboy trying to deal with an injury did not expect his father to call in a nursemaid even more worrying is Leah thought she was coming to look after a fourteen year old teenager not a extremely hot broody cowboy close to her own age and this where the fun and games begin.... I loved everything about Leah and Rhett, the chemistry is sizzling, the love passionate and the banter is funny but Joey stole some of their show with her sass and some classic one liners. If you are looking for a book that’s going to make you swoon and smile, I highly recommend you one click Grumpy Cowboy you won’t be disappointed.
Rhett is a grumpy cowboy who just wants to love his life as HE sees fit. Leah is a new ortho doc about to be surprised that her 14 year old patient is not fourteen. Not only that, Leah is getting ready to go on the ride of her life. Question is, can she make it longer than 8 seconds? This books is absolutely laugh out loud hilarious. Although Rhett takes the city girl on some wild ranch adventures, she takes his heart on the best adventure of all. Between all of their mishaps and funnies, we also get to fall in love with the sweet Josephine, Rhett’s baby girl. She’s probably the cutest kid you’re ever going to read in a romance. Take a chance with this book and you’re sure to have a heartwarming read and many a giggle.
Stubborn mule headed people who bicker and banter their way to love.
Rhett Jameson being a dumb a** falls off a bucking bronco and land on his knee, hard. Being the stubborn cowboy his parents raised him to be, ends up pushing himself too hard too fast. His dad, Tex, wants him ship shape and ready to take over the family ranch, soon. He hires a glorified babysitter, orthopedic dr to live onsite for the summer and help Rhett stay on his rehab plan.
Leah Levee starting her new gig with a pro basketball team as the assistant sports medical doctor on staff. Her boss is good friends with Tex, so he asks her to help out and keep Rhett on the road to recovery.
The story is told from three POV, Rhett, Leah and Tex. Their relationship forms gradually and happens organically, not forced, the chemistry comes through as genuine. I loved his daughter Joey, she was a load of energy in a very young person. I was disappointed at the ending. The last two or three chapters seemed rushed. Would have loved a bit more.
