Fantasy poetry driven by myths and legends has been my passion for as long as I remember. I was published in poetry long before I caught the romance writing bug.
I always meant to write a book; I really did. But I was born in a horse-centered, fox-hunting part of Pennsylvania and put on a horse so young it’s a wonder I ever learned to walk. My early years were completely taken up with horses. When one of them knocked me unconscious for a rather long time, I began to have different thoughts.
Thus began an 18-year career in various aspects of psychiatric social services. And did I mention I married a man with five children? I wrote poetry because it didn’t take as long as writing 100,000 words. All of it was published and that helped silence the little voice going, “But I really want to write a book!” When I was widowed at age 41, I dealt with it by running away to Ireland, where the little voice kept getting louder.
The result was an outburst of writing. This comes after massive amounts of help from Romance Writers of America, Valley Forge Romance Writers, Celtic Hearts and Rome-antics.
Let’s hear it for all those great ladies!
Presently, I live on a small farm in Elverson, Pennsylvania with an assortment of rescue animals …mostly horses.
There’s nothing better than having a dun, hilarious collection of books to turn to, of an evening,,especially when things aren’t going too well. I took a dive, straight into this collection, and it really was as hilariously fun as it promised!
This has a great selection of authors, who created a brilliant collection of stories for the readers. I love that each story holds true to the theme, but is unique in its own right. The storyline behind eac is really fun and interesting.
Overall, I was impressed by each story and found the overall book a great success. This definitely one to get for those rainy days
The Scent of a Man is an anthology of four unique books that share a small theme of the scent of the male love interest. I've never thought too much about how much smells play into a connection between people.
The four stories are enjoyable, especially if you love a quick read to finish in one sitting. I would love to see each one receive the full treatment from their respective authors. I think they could hold their own as a novella or even a full novel.
Love Cabin by Miriam Newman was probably my favorite, and it was also the longest. This might have influenced my thoughts. I loved the grumpy neighbor to love interest trope. It was thoroughly entertaining. Marjorie is a bit down in the dumps and on her luck after a divorce. Enter neighbor Jack, who helps her bury her cat, Jack. The double name sounds confusing, but it works well. The small community vibe is delightful, and I enjoyed the barn-raising and the descriptions of food. There is a lot of food and muscles in this book.
Exiled to Love by Jae El Foster is a fun tale that reminded me of a Bewitched meets klutzy rom/com sweetheart. For a witch to be exiled without her powers was a rude awakening for Donna. Luckily, she meets her hunky neighbor Devon who helps her with everything from finding a latte to finding a job. Light fun.
The Scent of a Man by Jennifer Patricia O'Keefe is so entertaining with its heroine, who is the biggest klutz around. Trust Beth to run into her true love while concussing herself walking into a pole after nearly being run over in the street. This book is set in the Disco era, so it has a fun late 70s vibe.
The Scent of You by Kristi Ahlers is a book I think needs fleshed out a bit more. It had the potential to really captivate but was just too short for me. It should have mass-appeal, though, as the trope of love at first sight (or stumble) with your favorite rockstar is a winner. The band members are so fun; I think they could each carry their own story, while Arden and Cade star in this tale. Arden is another clumsy girl that we can all relate to.
I recommend this book to all lovers of romantic comedies. Let me know which is your favorite story in this book.
I received a copy of the book for a book tour. This review is my honest, unbiased opinion.
I was granted complimentary access to The Sent of a Man as part of my participation in a blog tour for this title with Goddess Fish Promotions. Thank you to all involved in affording me this opportunity! My thoughts are my own and my review is honest.
Normally I'm wary of romance books as I'm really not the steamy romance reader type and I don't like being surprised by excessive steaminess when I wasn't expecting it, but this collection of rom-coms sounded so funny and fun and I've already hosted tours for half of these authors before, so I decided to give it a chance. I'm so glad I did! What an entertaining ride this little collection was.
While all four stories were great, my favourite was Jae El Foster's "Exiled by Love." Where is your coffee, fellow neighbourhood mortals? I hear you, girl, I hear you. But way to pull off a "hello fellow kids" moment! This one had me in stitches, and I was so happy to see that particular passage was one of the excerpt options for us to use on the blog tour.
Rom-com fans, check out this little collection. You won't be disappointed!
1. For the sense of humor interwoven through the stories 2. The lightheartedness of the characters 3. A great collection of tropes 4. The Rom-Com not to steamy romance🔥🔥🔥 5. For the diverse settings 6. Packing a punch (It may be a collection of short stories, but they were well done!) 7. For the fun flirtiness or each story in a different way 8. And of course… The Scent of Man 😁
This book was a quick, enjoyable collection of stories with fun conversations between characters, some interesting situations (I mean really!), and I loved the variety of tropes the authors decided to go with. It kept me guessing and I did not put it down! I really enjoyed each author’s story, and while I wish some of them were longer (because I did not want to leave the characters!) they gave me a fun flirty set of stories to get lost in that I really liked. I give them 4 out of 5 stars for their creativity, the characters, and for making me smile.
*I am under no obligation to post a positive review, all thoughts expressed are my own.
A Bewitching tale! A young witch exiled to the mortal world is forced to live as a mortal—with no powers! She must learn to do everything mortals do, starting with getting a job. Perhaps her sexy and charming neighbor could have the answer.
A woman wakes up in the hospital after being saved by a handsome savior.
Fun and flirty tales! Nice Rom-Com stories that you can give you a quick fix.
This is just a quick, light read if you don't want to work too hard and can enjoy a little romance. Because there are many stories in this collection, you can easily come back to it as you have time. I liked some of the stories better than others for sure, which is always going to be the case, but I think was a wonderfully put together anthology. I was not familiar with all of the authors, so that gives me a chance to go back and check out some of their other work now!
What did each of these stories have in common? Laughs galore! When reading a story in general, we want to feel like we are satisfied with the book we read, but also want more from the author and their characters. The stories are all completely different but each just as fun as the one before it. The comedy and romance are both spot on in all of them. The laughs are a plenty in each one. The wit and entertainment just flows through the entire collection.
Romance with plenty of laughs. This is a great collection of quickies that will really whet the readers appetite for romance and comedy. Each author brings a unique story that a reader can pick up and put down and read as they have time. (I promise you wont want to though) I had my favorites, and many laugh out loud moments, but I think overall this was a great compilation.
I'm glad I picked this up. Sit down to read and hilarity ensues. These authors definitely bring the laughs. I found each story a great read in its own right. The balance of romance, wit, and humor was well done in each. It's a great collection you won't want to miss.
This is a set of romantic comedy stories. Each story can stand on its own so the book as a whole is something you can read a little at a time. However, I didn’t do that. I read it from cover to cover in one sitting. It was also easy to read because each story has such a good flow. Easy to read, no blips, no hiccups. I don’t mind a romance but don’t like the steamy embarrassing kind. I think from the title that’s what I thought this would be. But it wasn’t. The stories were sweet and funny. The feel-good kind and they did just that, made me feel good.
