Hush, Little Trucker: A Picture Book
Soothe truck-loving toddlers off to sleep with Hush, Little Trucker , a vehicle-themed bedtime board book.
Hush, little trucker, you’re in luck.
Mama’s gonna find your lost toy truck.
A new spin on the classic song “Hush, Little Baby,” this truck-themed lullaby follows a mother and child as they discover different vehicles, from a bulldozer to a front-end loader. Kim Norman’s gentle rhyming text, paired with Toshiki Nakamura’s imaginative color illustrations, makes this picture book a great option for bedtime read-alouds.
“Prep those vocal cords and sing your scales, because this is a book that begs to be sung repeatedly and with gusto.”— Kirkus Reviews

I took one glance at this book at a bookstore and knew it would be perfect for my car and truck loving son. When I took it home and read it to him it was even more perfect than I could imagine. The images are so beautiful. He loves these books that you sing along too ( Car Car Truck Jeep and Old MacDonald Had a Truck), but this one is the most beautiful and easy to sing along to the tune of Hush Little Baby. We have read this countless times. He is two years old. One of my favorite things about this book is how it starts with an emotion (sad son) and then he and his mom work together to figure things out. One of the most magical things is that they use their imagination through the book. It is a truly beautiful children’s book and bound to be a modern classic.

HUSH, LITTLE TRUCKER is a delightful new twist on "Hush, Little Baby" for children who love vehicles. The song begins with a young boy who is crying because he has lost his toy vehicle under the snow. His mother comes to help by bringing out all the construction vehicles, which also struggle in the wintery weather. Eventually, the dig in the snow and pull out the truck, which is a toy version of his mother's tow truck.
What I loved: Vehicle lovers will delight in this new song rendition for "Hush, Little Baby," enjoying all of the cool construction vehicles that appear throughout the story. The beautiful, wintery illustrations add to the fun as children can watch them try each of the vehicles in succession. I really enjoyed that the truck driver here is the mother as well as the easy-to-read font and a brief amount of text on each page. For little children, this is a perfect format - plenty to see and enjoy on each page but they also turn quickly with each line of the song appearing on a new page. My preschooler was grinning from ear to ear throughout this read and cannot get enough of it!
Final verdict: A delightful read for truck lovers, HUSH, LITTLE TRUCKER is a sweet and lovely picture book that travels through construction vehicles in the search for a young child's toy. Highly recommend this book for toddlers, preschoolers, and up for its elegant illustrations, quickly turning pages, and all the trucks!
Please note that I received a review copy. All opinions are my own.

Picture book. This book is set to the rhyme Hush Little baby (I can always remember the tune but not the words, so this works for me!). A young child loses her toy truck in the snow. Her mother comes to help look for it, and while they are searching sings the song. "Hush, little trucker, you're in luck. Mama's gonna find your lost toy truck." They go through various vehicles including a jeep, forklift, dump truck, backhoe, concrete mixer, bulldozer, flatbed truck, front-end loader, and a crane. The title page makes it clear that these are all toys, but the illustrations throughout show them life-size. The soft digital illustrations are lovely, with a little bit of glimmer on the trucks as they appear. Easy to read, enjoyable to look at, and fun to see female characters in a book about trucks.

This book has a lot to like--provided you can suspend your disbelief. Kids will enjoy all the different trucks that are featured and storytellers will like that it's simple text that can be sung to "Hush Little Baby." The characters appear Japanese and that the truck driver is the mom--which was cool. My adult brain was too confused though about why all these unrelated trucks were getting fired up to find a toy truck hidden in the snow (like...is the concrete mixer really going to help here? Or a crane?). So the story didn't make sense but I'm sure it will get checked out in winter time regardless.

I received an electronic ARC from Abrams Books.
A take on "Hush, Little Baby" for toddlers and preschoolers who like trucks and construction equipment. Mother and child explore all sorts of construction vehicles after the child's toy truck gets stuck under the snow. The vehicles get larger and larger until they circle back in the end and dig out the toy truck. The love shines through the illustrations and the text as the two explore together together. A terrific read aloud for families and a springboard to further discussion about the various vehicles and how they are used.

I generally don't love picture books that require me to sing. This one is to the tune of Hush Little Baby Don't Say a Word, and I know that will work for some readers/listeners. The book does feature a Mom working a lot of trucks and equipment and I have lots of little readers that will love that very much. It takes place in the snow, and the young boy has lost his little truck. He and the Mom use lots of trucks before finding his little one.
I got an e-ARC at a School Library Journal event from the publisher's booth, which was much appreciated.

Set to the tune of “Hush, Little Baby”, this cute book follows a mom reassuring their child of what she would do if their truck got stuck in the snow. I love the cartoon family with the detailed trucks as well as the mom who drives all the vehicles to show her child, there is nothing to worry about. A sweet little winter book for those who love trucks and are afraid of too much snow. This is would also be great for Mother’s Day and any parent who wants a different version of “Hush, Little Baby”.

Thank you to the publisher for a digital ARC!
Do you have a little one that LOVES trucks and big machines? This is the perfect book to share with them. It is set to the tune of "Hush Little Baby" but features a search for a lost truck. Best of all, our truck driver is mom! Obviously a good one on one sing/read this would also work well in a story time about trucks or lost & found.

A sing-able book about a young boy who loses his truck in the snow and his mother sings him a song to the tune of "Hush, Little Baby" about the progressively larger equipment they'll use to find the little truck.
Illustrations are obviously digital. Hand this to kids who just have to have the newest truck book.

This is a super sweet mother-son book about trucks. It goes over all the different trucks, and it all takes place in the snow and ends all nice and warm-hearted, so this made for a very cozy winter book.
I’m not into trucks but I’m looking forward to reading this to my kiddo when he’s a bit older!

Great pictures! My main issue with the book is forced/clunky rhymes. Not really a couplet fan when it comes to pictures books becuase the majority of the time the rhyming is clunky and forced. Love that the child is supposed to be a girl who likes trucks (though honestly the gender does seem ambiguous. I just take the author's dedication to mean the mc is a girl.)

Jack borrowed this book from the Oxford Public Library. I picked it because he loves trucks and nursery rhymes.
I read this book to Jack while he played in his crib before nap. He loved all the different trucks and got up close to the bars to see them better. At the end, he sang the rhythm of the lullaby with words like truck and mama, and he smiled so much.

A picture book based on " hush little baby" lullaby that is all about a missing truck. Gorgeous illustrations and a sweet story. Good for either a truck or a bedtime storytime or lapsit for bedtime.

I read this book as an adult reader for the AR Diamond Book Award. This is a wonderful selection for any little boys that love big equipment. If you don't sing this entire book, you are missing out!

In the vein of the nursery song, Hush Little Baby, this is a rhyming book that finds us using various types of trucks/machinery as we turn each page.

I really enjoyed this! I think this would be a fun book to sing a loud. It is a little long, but I think that young readers will enjoy singing along.

I hate the nursery rhyme "hush little baby." I think its weird and even a bit morbid. So this one, about finding a toy truck, and showing a MOM driving big rigs! YES

I'm sure the target audience will love it.

This doesn't make any sense as a story, but the singable text and fun illustrations will appeal to kids who are interested in all kinds of trucks and construction vehicles.
