A woman freed from chains. Three ruthless mercenaries seeking revenge. Intense attraction that won’t be denied – whatever the price.
Lana’s days are filled with backbreaking work and her nights are spent hiding from the master’s son, but, when dangerous mercenaries pass through her village, her life is changed forever. She’s thrust into an outside world she’s only ever dreamed of.
These warriors are unlike any men she has ever known. They’re driven by desperate vengeance and broken by the tragedies of their pasts. Viktor is gruff and hard, Sorin, quick-witted and funny, and brooding Kane wields a power that terrifies her. Each has hidden sadness that rivals her own and Lana is drawn to them as well as their dangerous desires.
When a formidable enemy threatens them, can her bond with the three mercenaries save them all? Can she help them find the humanity they’ve lost, but more importantly, will they want her to?
Kyra was 18 when she read her first romance, 19 when she left the US for the UK, 20 when she decided to stay in London, 25 when she met her now husband, 30 when she got married, 31 when she had kid 1, 33 when she had kid 2, and 36 when she was diagnosed as autistic.
She now lives a few miles outside London with her husband, the two (likely neurodivergent) kids, and a cuddly cocker spaniel named Patch who likes to roll in bird crap.
Not all of her stories have neurodivergent FMCs but representation is important, especially when so many women are not diagnosed until well into later life!

Bought to Break is the second book in the Dark Brothers series and follows Lana and her men Sorin, Kane and Viktor. Lana has lived most of her life as a slave due to her miserable family. Her life is a series of hardships and she doesn't see her life improving anytime soon. Days of hard labor and hiding from her master's son takes a toll. Until the men she's destined to be with happen upon her.
Sorin and Viktor free Lana but find their attraction to her needs to be explored and take her with them to meet the third of their group, Kane.
Lana soon realizes that she is now part of something bigger than herself. Lana is a quieter strength but her transformation from a slave mindset to a free woman was lovely and I loved how she challenged the Brothers. These men are deviant, vengeful and calculating and she worries if she will survive them. Sorin is the sweeter one of the group but carries a painful past. Viktor is rough around the edges and jaded and Kade is broody and angry. As Lana travels on their journey with them, loyalties are tested, feelings are hurt, truths are revealed and pains are healed. Will Lana heal the Brothers and them her in return? What does their future hold when so much violence and self interests surround them?
First off, this book cover is gorgeous. Second, we get a bigger peak into this world and what makes it tick and while I felt like I was still missing lots of pieces it was intriguing and entertaining. I really enjoyed the plot and the relationship between Lana and her men. It had just the right amount of angst and steam (whew). Like the first one, I'd still classify this as mildly dark but was so delicious. Can't wait to read the next one!
This series is getting better by the book, and i’m loving it! Even though it’s three Dark Brothers again, buying a slave girl, this story is still different from Sold to Serve. And it shows you more of this world, gives you more background…..like some kind of red thread. It’s good to know i have one more to go….and even better to know Kyra has been so kind to add me to her ARC team. I am going to enjoy reading more, that’s for sure!
Lana has been dealt a bad hand when she was just 13. After her mother died, her stepfather sold her,and told her new owner to make her life as miserable as possible. Where her owner held back,a little, his son did not,and she lived in a world of hurt most of the time. The horses she had to take care of were the highlight of her days. Until Sorin and Victor arrived…..and found her on the verge of being forcefully divested of her virginity by her owner’s son. Seeing the bruises and broken skin, they knew if they left her behind, she wouldn’t survive very long. So,they bought her,and after getting to know her a little better, found she might be their fourth…. But what would Kane think? They soon found out,and it wasn’t good….. Looking at the slip of a girl,Kane felt attracted to her,but fought those feelings. They didn’t need a fourth, and they didn’t need a weak link like her.
But Sorin and Victor won’t give her up,and things turn bad very soon. Because Lana attracts the attention of the wrong crowd…. And one of them is the very person Kane,Sorin and Victor have been searching for for years now. Not for fun,but to get revenge for what he’s done to them. And guess what…..
This was a story about trust, and allowing others to see you at your weakest. All three men had a horrible past, had been hurt to the very deepest of their souls. And all three dealt with that past in a different way. Until Lana. She had an effect on them, and that made them rethink their lives…. She was special in a way she didn’t even know. And she was brave….always wanting to know more, see more, experience more. A special quartet, and i loved their story!
Once again I’m in awe of this author’s writing!! The Dark Brothers world is so addicting! Especially if you enjoy dark, spicy reverse harem romance and fantasy.
The dark brothers are big, powerful, dark and broken men. But Lana did so much to help them heal. She was a fantastic mc! Most of it is in her voice, but there were chapters in the dark brothers voices also, which I loved! My favorite of the three brothers was Sorin!! But I really grew to like all three of them!!
These books are so well written, well paced, great world building, awesome characters, and fantastic dialogue. I’ve already bought the third book, and it arrived today!! The covers are all great, but I think this third one (Kept To Kill) is my favorite!! Oh, FYI… these books are each standalones, but they all take place in the same world. An original and amazing series!! I’m so excited to read the next book!!
Personally, I love the whole Dark Brothers universe. This story introduces another trio who ultimately, end up meeting their 4th, an unusual circumstance.
Lana was sold as a slave by her stepfather after her mother died. She managed to exist until she's almost raped by her owner's son and saved by two Dark Brothers. They are convinced of her value, but convincing their third takes some doing.
The interesting back story is that all three brothers are connected by an evil man and their own dark histories. Eventually, though, even Lana draws the notice and interest of the evil and powerful man. To explain what happens would be to give far too much away, however.
The story is well-paced, the characters interesting, and the Dark Brothers in particular, are hot and spicy. If sexy, dark romance is not your thing, don't read. There is nothing more irritating than to read a review by someone who is offended by exactly what kind of story it is. As for me, I give it 5 stars for not only being well-written, but sexy and spicy as all get out!
This is one of my favorite ones. The entire ending is a fever dream, that Lana is a spirit thing and then taken to the other world, the best part is when this comes up and she saw Bastian in Lily's story. I hated Kane through the entire book, the line about him killing her father and then she still wanted him anyway was hard to swallow. As was the bath scene with Sorin where he is warning her he is dangerous and she could not care less. AND OMG, how did I forget the boat scene where everyone can hear them having sex and they are worried Kane whipped her, so insane omg
A lovely and sexy tale of self discovering and passion. I really enjoyed the book, even though there were times when I really wanted to shake Kane into sense. That man is worse than a mule! A well written book with a good plot and world creation.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Exciting, sexy, thrilling and entertaining second book in Lana's story. There is romance, adventure, and danger. The characters are distinct and dynamic. This has an amazing storyline that is very gripping.
I read many books on Kindle Unlimited and sometimes I find gems that I want to add to my library and read again (and again). The Dark Brothers stories have proven to be such treasures. Can’t wait for the next book....
Love this books and the series. It is pure escapism and when I start I struggle to stop. The characters are likable and the story really engaging. If you enjoy sexy fantasy this is up your street!
This was even better than the previous book by author Kyra Alessy which was Sold to serve.
Once more she introduced us into the world of The Dark Brothers, but these are different 👀 It's like me hearing about a new shadow hunter and loving them without hesitation but with the dark brothers! They are honestly pretty cool, and I enjoyed the dark brothers in this book just as much as I enjoyed the dark brothers in Sold to Serve.
The main character in this book wasn't my absolute fav, that being Lana. I kind of found her annoying, but the author's writing had compensated for that. The writing had very much improved along with he plot which was synchronized perfectly with Kyra Alessy's writing style!
I honestly prefer Kora to Lana, but at the same time I prefer the plot of this book to the first so I guess it evens out 🤷♀️
Anyways, once more I am even more intrigued so guess who's going to actually commit to reading this whole series once exams finish. ME!!
We first met Viktor, Kane, and Sorin towards the end of 'Sold to Serve', and this is their story. Lana, sold into slavery after the death of her mother, a wealthy freewoman, has been abused and mistreated often by the snivelling coward that is her master's son. When two travelling Dark Brothers decide to step in and purchase her for themselves, her life changes irrevocably. Sorin and Viktor, while occasionally hard and unyielding, very quickly become the ones Lana trusts and relies on the most. Kane, however, is an uncompromising d*ck, and for most of the book you'll want to boot him up his rear end. Lana is not the only victim in this book, and it's one of the things I enjoy about Kyra Alessy's books. The women, while generally physically weaker, have an inner strength that helps to see them to the end. The men, although physically strong, have vulnerabilities that they eventually share with the FMC. These characters are flawed, but they also experience growth, which is what every reader hopes for in a book.
Loved this book, which is the second I have read by this author. The characters are well developed. Each of the characters are very different with lots of layers. I love how the author has made each character and story detail completely different from the first book, not just a copy. Very sexy and believable world building. Will read third in series.
This is a fantastic story. Filled with intrigue, terrific backstories, likeable characters, plots within plots, alpha men, lots of steam, m/f, mfm, and mmfm. The sexytimes are well written and not just filler to the story. I can't wait to read the other books in this series. Caution: this story does touch upon physical abuse, attempted female rape, male on male rape, murder. How these topics / outcomes are handled was very well written. I highly recommend this story.
The whole storyline was just brilliant. I’m usually good at guessing what’s going to happen in books but this one had me thrown off a lot and not guess correctly. I absolutely love it when that happens! It makes the book all that much sweeter.
You meet Lara who is a timid slave girl who has had the worst of luck in life, until she meets the two Brothers who happen by her master’s stable that she works in. The different personalities between them was great. One cocky and smiley and the other being dark and forlorn.
They end up taking her from her situation and can’t seem to have enough of her. Come to find out that there is a THIRD Brother in that unit. You thought Viktor was the dark and forlorn one? Nope! Kane was the darkest but I have always loved characters like that.
The Brothers feel a closeness to Lana and later in the book you realize why. Talk about shocker! I wasn’t expecting that. I think this author did an amazing job pulling things together and making this story addicting and wanting more.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars was for the fact that I felt like some details could have been added. I’m a lover of details. I want some moments drawn out. Especially love scenes and how it makes them all feel or perhaps what they are thinking about it. It could just be that that’s the author’s writing style and this was the first book of theirs I’ve read that I’m not used to it.
Either way, this book was great and I would recommend anyone and everyone to read it!

While much darker than the first book it fell far short of the previous book. I didn’t feel chemistry or connection between any of the characters, especially not Kane, Vik, Sorin and Lana. It followed the same formula as the previous book but was missing the emotional elements and is largely driven by plot convenience. I think in an effort to go darker, which it definitely did, the author replaced connection with sex, which personally didn’t work.
There’s one sided conversations where Lana learns each of the guys dark history, but unless it’s about sex or commands the guys rarely talk with her. There’s a lot of whiplash when we see the hero’s constantly changing feelings towards Lana and she’s never mad at them because she’s drawn to them so everything is fixed with sex. Kane betrays her twice, treats her cruelly, but it’s instant forgiveness, and he has the weakest reason of the three to be so closed off! His big reveal was nothing compared to what the other two went through.
Given each of the guys pasts, it seems odd they’d be ok with the mass amounts of rape and unwillingness that happens in the Dark Army. The effects that Lana has on the Army aren’t well explained. There’s one plot convenience after another. This book just wasn’t for me, there’s lots of dark elements I love, but without feeling character connection or chemistry it’s just a series of events. I was more interested in what was happening with the Dark Army and the villains than the main characters.
Maybe you’ll feel differently?
I don’t think I’ll continue with the series because it seems more of the same in the next one with Quin.
Exert about Kade:
{ He had hardly touched her since the night she’d been claimed, and she had wanted him to so many times since; every time they sparred and fought, whenever she’d seen him watching her with the others, even on the boat when he was going to whip her. She had hidden it, fearing his scorn when he found out she desired him so badly when he clearly didn’t want her. But he did – at least at the moment. And she would take it.}
I honestly have mixed feelings. Seggs (avoiding this refusing to post) should always be consensual, even if it's dubious consent. The scene where they bond with each other was not consensual no matter that Lana enjoyed the pleasure. Sure, the relationship works out but I hated that scene. The way Kane treats her is also disgusting. I don't care if a person has past trauma - making it to adulthood most of us do. Treating people like trash just makes that person exactly as bad as the people who hurt them. The relationship does improve. I'm a bit sad at how Lana was healed. Here's hoping the girl in the tower is the mfc of the next book.
Book 2 was not better then book 1 but I still enjoyed this story though Lana was very weak in character having been a slave that was almost to the point of being broken. ***SPolier alert**** It was very upsetting that her powers were taken but I guess there really was no way to leave her with them and offer an hoa if she was not able to go amongst other brothers and not be detected due to her powers as well as the fact that she was not born with them and they were killing her. Glad Kane and the guys did get their revenge dude was the worst kind of monster....
Unlike in the first book, there is zero chemistry between these 4. The other difference is that something actually happens in this one. There was a wider story to get behind if you weren't feeling the MCs. There also needed to be a much better explanation of the whole magic system in this world. The whole Dark Realm thing was introduced in the first book but basically ignored in this one. All in all, it was good enough that I'm willing to give the next one a try at some point.
DNF at 23%. I feel bad for not finishing this book, because the writing itself wasn't bad. I just found it impossible to get through because there was absolutely no chemistry between ANY of the characters. I didn't get the relationships between any of the Brothers, and I most definitely didn't get the relationships between any of the Brothers and the FMC.
Sooo. The storyline was indeed interesting. I liked most of it. I did not like the non consent parts. But that’s normal I’m pretty sure. Even with that it did make sense in the book. But Jeesh way more graphic than I have ever seen!
It is comforting to know that there is love that can be shared no matter how hard situations become. Just to show you reap what you sow. Can’t wait to see what happens with Underhill.
Loved this book just like the others , kyra knows how to draw readers in leaving them wanting more. Love the characters and their development and the fact I'm kept on my toes not expecting the outcome. Off to read book 3 now
I found myself binge reading this lol! Kyra Alessy is truly an addictive author to read. If you like Reverse Harems with a damsel-to-fighter FMC with a well built world, and a good plot with spice then look no further!
