Adam Stemple is an award-winning author, poet, and musician.

Like most authors, his life experience is broad and odd. He spent twenty years on the road with a variety of bands playing for crowds of between 2 and 20,000 people. He started, ran, and sold a poker training site with poker pro, Chris "Fox" Wallace. He worked in a warehouse. He picked corn. He traded options and demoed houses. He drove pizzas for nine months in 1986, which for twenty-seven years was the longest he'd ever been employed. He drank too much and has now been sober for over fifteen years. He published his first book at the age of sixteen, "The Lullaby Songbook," which he arranged the music for. His mother is a famous children's book author. His children are artistic. His wife is a better person than him in nearly all regards.

This book was the pep talk that I very much needed to get out of my head. It made me realize that I need to stop worrying about structure so much, and that nothing that I write is set in stone. I feel a little freer after reading this. Rules and structure and plot and all that serves its purpose but sometimes especially for perfectionists like myself, we get too caught up on all the rules. Just write, and see where it takes you.

I also really appreciated that it wasn’t an hours long read. He got to the point, and gave great examples to go with his advice. Might be one of the most helpful things I’ve read about writing a novel.

If you're looking for a magic bullet that will ensure that your fantasy novels are instant bestsellers then this is not the book for you. However, having said that, I found the author's treatment of aspects of the fantasy writing process to be very informative. He relates a lot of his points to examples from his own work and it is interesting to see how someone else views story and the different ways people can approach ideas and writing.

A remarkable little book that takes you from "I have a neat idea" to "Wow, I could actually write this thing." Stemple writes in clear and concise language and offers advise on learning how YOU write, not learn how TO write, and covers the basics of Fantasy writing really well. I'm on volume two now, and working on a first draft already.

Well thought out, concise and without unnecessary detail made it look more interesting and helpful than other guides, will be of great benefit for me in writing and preparing my own writing, as these were the best approaches.

Thanks Adam.
