Beck O’Rourke’s younger sister Lizzie has cajoled her into taking tennis lessons in the middle of the summer in South Florida. Beck not only suffers from the heat but from her snooty classmates who are more interested in the handsome tennis pros than learning how to hit a backhand. But things get serious when one of the racquet club’s pros is killed by a hit-and-run driver. Beck takes advantage of her inside knowledge of the tennis club to try to help handsome police detective Devon Mathis catch the killer.

A Tennis Pro To Die For by Judy Moore is the third book in the Cozy Mysteries to Die For series and the fourth one that I have read by this author. All four novels are set in the same small Florida town of Manatee Beach. While one of them was not in the same series, there are some secondary characters who show up across all of them.
Beck O’Rourke co-owns Beach Reads bookstore and coffee shop with her grandmother. They live in the apartment above their store with Beck’s younger sister, Lizzie. By now, I feel that Beck, Lizzie, and Grammy are old friends that I get to occasionally visit.
This novel starts with a prologue where a body is found. Then it drops back three days. While this is a good set-up to pull the reader in, it seemed to take a long time (1/3 of the book) for the three days to pass, and that is the reason for 3.5 stars (rounded up to 4 stars).
Lizzie has convinced Beck to take beginning tennis lessons, but she hates it. Everything from the heat to the haughty attitudes of a couple of classmates to her own lack of interest convinces her that tennis is not for her. When one of the club’s pros is killed, Beck uses her knowledge of the people and tennis club to do more amateur sleuthing.
Beck was definitely someone you wanted to succeed. This book showed some character growth for both her and Detective Devon Mathis. The other secondary characters were well developed and enhanced the story as well as providing some humor.
The prose was compulsively readable, well-written, and engrossing. The pace picked up significantly after the first third of the novel. There were plenty of suspects and a few twists. The ending was a little unexpected with a nice twist. Will you guess the correct murderer? The author’s familiarity with tennis lent provided depth to this novel.
Overall, this was an enjoyable, entertaining, and suspenseful read. Themes include murder, family dramas, secrets, homelessness, parental favoritism, physical and verbal abuse, romance, and much more. I am looking forward to reading more books by this author. If the above sounds like something you would enjoy, then I recommend that you check it out. The books are best read in order.
Thanks to the author for a complimentary copy of this novel and the opportunity to read and provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.
Ms. Moore has written another terrific cozy mystery with Beck O'Rourke set in Manatee Beach, Florida. This time Beck has been coerced into taking tennis lessons by her younger sister, Lizzie. The clever plot is fast paced with enough twists to keep me guessing as I turned the pages. I really appreciated Beck's grandmother's attitude change in this one because in the previous books she had been a little grumpy in many of her scenes. Likable characters, a lovely beach side community and a touch of romance made for a fun afternoon read.
This is the third book in the Cozy Mysteries To Die For series by Judy Moore.
I am happy to be reading another one of Judy Moore’s books. She has come a long way in defining this series and really making it all come to a life in a wonderful way.
Beck is back in town after her stint in Montreal taking care of her mother. There is a bit of a distance between her and her detective sweetie, Devon. But her sister, Lizzie tells her to let Devon chase her. No one likes a gal who is easy to catch. Since Lizzie is the one with the romance chops, Beck listens to her advice.
In the meantime, Beck and her sister are taking tennis lessons at the local country club due to a generous benefactor from a previous book. This is where Beck meets Haley an area tennis legend. But being clueless about sports, Beck and Haley bond over their love of books. Lizzie is stunned when she realizes her sister’s new friend is uber famous.
Not long after Beck meets Haley she is introduced to her family and other colleagues: Gille and Manney. A disagreement between Haley and Manney sends her running for cover, the next day the body of Manney is discovered dead from a hit and run.
This is when Detective Daron gives Beck the green light to start investigating on her own as a type of consultant. So she jumps into the fray.
This was a fascinating mystery to follow. I love that Devon and Beck worked together and you can see the two of them growing closer.
This is one of those stories where everyone gets a happily ever after ending. I am sure you will be relieved as I was to see how it all turned out in the end.
If you love cozy mysteries, definitely check this out and dig into the whole series.
I read this book for free using my kindle unlimited subscription.
This is the 3rd book in the cozy mystery serie set in sunny Florida. In this book Beth helps investigate the murder in the tennis club. I like that it deals with tennis environment. The book is interesting and I enjoyed reading it. I will continue to read this serie.
This is the third novel in Judy Moore’s Cozy Mysteries To Die For series. In my personal opinion these books just flow and are so much better when read in order. You really begin to feel as the characters are family you could visit from time to time and join in on their adventures. I love how Moore writes these mysteries with just enough humor and wit to feel like you get a comedy read as well. It is a unique spin to the cozy mystery genre. In this one we visit the world of pro tennis and man do things get messy. Beck really finds herself in the thick of it while taking tennis lessons she was coaxed into taking by her sister. The death of a tennis pro will make things even more interesting. I can’t wait to see where we will find ourselves next in this series.
A TENNIS PRO TO DIE FOR is the third book in the Cozy Mysteries to Die for series by Judy Moore. The author’s attention to detail about the dark underside of the tennis pro circuit intrigued me. Upon reading Ms. Moore’s bio at the back of the book, I found that she’d formerly been a tennis pro herself and it’s apparent she’s put her expertise to good use in this newest release. The protagonist, Beck O’Rourke, owner of Beach Reads Bookstore in Manatee Beach, Florida is a relatable character. There’s some good-natured rivalry between herself and her much younger sister, yet they show genuine affection and concern for each other. They both live with their Grammy, who runs the café portion of the bookshop. “Grammy” is kind of a curmudgeon and in the first two books, I found her to be a bit irritating. That said, I appreciate that the author has shown character growth for the three O’Rourke women, Grammy included, over the course of the series.
The mystery is well-plotted and the pace, as Beck investigates, kept me turning pages. There’s been a possible romantic link between Beck and Detective Devon Mathis from the very first book, and despite him not wanting Beck to get involved, he values her intuition and intellect in tracking down clues. With several twists that added to the intrigue of who killed the tennis pro, the final reveal had me on the edge of my seat. Ms. Moore wraps up the threads of the story with a satisfying conclusion and sets the stage for possible new changes in Beck’s life in future books.
I was provided with an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Who killed the tennis pro and why? The answer might surprise you as it did me.
Beck is back in town and was roped into taking tennis lessons. I felt for Beck because I am a lot like her, not athletic, and definitely not interested in tennis. After one of the lessons, she meets Haley reading a book in the club, and they strike up a conversation about books. What Beck doesn't know is that Haley is a professional tennis player. I think Beck's ignorance about Haley helps forge a bond between the two since Haley isn't being hounded for her status. I enjoyed watching their friendship evolve, and books are definitely at the center.
The relationship between Devon and Beck continues to evolve, and by the end, there is a better understanding between the two. There are some humorous moments that I won't spoil for you since they might give away a little of the plot/storyline. But I appreciated that Devon recognizes Beck's ability to uncover clues and details to help solve the case.
I enjoy the banter back and forth between Lizzie, Beck, and their grandmother. Lizzie and Beck are opposites, but that doesn't prevent them from having a good sibling relationship. We also see these characters continue to evolve and have more layers to them.
And we can't forget Scratchoff and his friend Shirley now working at the cafe. Scratchoff is quite the character and, despite winning a million dollars, is still the same guy he was before. He just helps more homeless people with the money.
This has been a fun series to read and book 4 is next on my list to read. We give this book 4 paws up.
I was looking forward to reading this third book in author Judy Moore’s ‘Cozy Mysteries To Die For’ series having read and enjoyed the previous books and I was not disappointed. Back with what now feels like old friends, the main characters Beck O’Rourke, her grandmother, Miss Alice, and Beck’s younger sister Lizzie are all present. As well as running ‘Beach Reads’ a bookstore and coffee shop Beck’s also likes to investigate mysteries and crimes. In this story Lizzie has persuaded Beck’s into taking tennis lessons and to make things worse for Beck’s who does not like the heat it’s the middle of a hot South Florida summer. Whilst Lizzie is sporty, Beck’s would rather sit in the shade and watch but when one of the racquet club’s tennis pros is killed by a hit-and-run driver Beck’s helps investigate the murder along with police detective Devin Mathis. I already loved the main characters as they are very likeable and relatable and I have enjoyed the character development throughout out the three books. Each character brings something different to the story and the interactions between them all are very realistic. The storyline flows well and the plot twists and turns kept me guessing until the last page. The descriptive narrative made me feel immersed in the story and I felt like I was investigating along with Beck’s. This was an enjoyable and engaging read which had me hooked from page one. Although each book can be read as a standalone story the main characters do crossover and I would personally recommend reading the whole series to really understand the backstory.
A Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 3) by Judy Moore is another great mystery starring Beck O’Rourke. Lizzie, Beck’s sister talks Beck into taking tennis lessons at a nearby country club. Beck loves to read and really isn’t an athletic gal, who I totally relate to. The thing Beck is good at is solving mysteries. Several weeks after starting tennis lessons one of the tennis pros that both Beck and Lizzie had class with is found dead. Beck has assisted the local detective Devon Mathis with solving a couple other mysterious death in the community of Manatee Beach, Florida. In the past Detective Devon was against Beck helping solve the crimes. But a summer spent apart (Beck was helping her mom after surgery) seems to have softened his feelings. I think this is my favorite book of the series. I loved that we continue to learn more about the main characters and the supporting characters like Scratchoff and Shirley. Can’t wait to read more crime solving in future books.
A great book! Beck and Lizzie are taking tennis lessons at the Golden Palms Country Club. Beck isn’t very enthusiastic and her classmates seem to enjoy flirting with the tennis pro despite being married as well as making fun of Beck. While waiting for Lizzie’s lesson to be done, Beck meets Haley Grant, fellow book lover, and also a famous tennis star. Beck and Haley bond over books. When one of the tennis pros is discovered dead in a hit and run accident, Beck is afraid that it is either Haley or Gilles, her instructor and Haley’s secret boyfriend. It turns out to be Manny, another of the tennis pros and Haley’s hitting partner. Haley asks Beck for help in finding Manny’s killer and Devon also asks Beck for her help, much to her delight. I really enjoyed this book and seeing Beck and Devon work together to find the killer. Lizzie teaching Coquina the dog Spanish was fun, too. I really love the beach setting and the characters. I would love to see more of this series and where these characters go next in their lives! Highly recommend!
Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 3) By Judy Moore 5 out of 5 stars
I loved reading the book Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 3) by Judy Moore. It is a story that grabbed my attention, and I was hooked. I loved the storyline and the characters. The author does an amazing job of making both come alive. Beck O’Rourke and Lizzie are two characters that I liked as they are well-developed, and I found that I liked reading about them. This book includes mystery and had me turning pages to find out what happens next. The books in this series keep getting better with each story that I read. The author does a wonderful job of writing tales that are enjoyable for all. Don’t miss out on an exciting, entertaining, intriguing, and interesting book. I highly recommend it.
5 Stars A Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 3) by Judy Moore
A Tennis Pro To Die For is the third book in the Cozy Mysteries To Die For series by Judy Moore. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend reading this series in order to get to know the characters and to just enjoy this wonderfully written series. This book is my favorite yet and I definitely see myself going back and reading this series in the future. Once I started I couldn’t put it down till I finished. What happens when Beck’s sister talks her into taking Tennis Lessons ? There’s a few twists that had me on the edge of my seat. What happens when a Tennis Pro is found murdered? Can they solve the case? Find out what happens next in this absolute must read. I look forward to reading more from this Author.
A Tennis Pro To Die For is the third book in Judy Moore’s Cozy Mysteries To Die For series. With a coastal Florida setting and a book loving accidental heroine, this series is proving a great comfort read! In this book, Beck is caught up in the mystery when a tennis pro from the club where she has been (reluctantly) having lessons is found dead. A fan of mystery novels, Beck has already found herself caught up in multiple cases before and seems to have a knack for solving them. The supporting characters in this series are well established by now! I particularly like Scratchoff, the unlikely millionaire who is committed to supporting those in need. There are also some great canine characters, particularly Coquina. This book could be read as a standalone if you’re particularly looking for a tennis-themed murder mystery. Otherwise, I would definitely recommend starting at A Book Signing To Die For and working your way through, getting to know the characters along the way! For me, this is another five-star read. I can’t wait to read more of the series!
For a sleepy Florida beach town, Manatee Beach sure has a high homicide rate. Thank goodness Beck –bookstore owner and volunteer sleuth -- is available to help the local police department keep the streets safe for both locals and tourists. In this installment of Judy Moore’s engaging To Die For series, Beck befriends a top-seeded tennis player whose hitting partner isn’t long for this world. But, as usual for a Moore mystery, the murderer's tracks are well covered. Fabulous plotting. I’m happy to report that while the twisty story is new, many of the cast of characters are old friends and romantic interests. Grammy, sister Lizzie, town eccentric Scratch-off are all part of the tale. As is a certain handsome and elusive detective.
A Tennis Pro To Die For by Judy Moore is the third book in the Cozy Mysteries To Die For series. This has got to be my favourite book of the series so far. It was intriguing and such an exciting story that for me was completely made by the characters. I fell in love with them as soon as I started reading. They were so easy to engage with and completely caught my interest. The story was well written and thought out perfectly. It keeps you guessing the whole way through and is full of suspense. I have thoroughly enjoyed this series from the moment I started reading it and I would certainly recommend it to any fan of this genre.
I’ve read every one of these books in this series. I feel like I’m part of the inner group with them and can’t wait to see where they’re going to take me next. I want a shop like Beach Reads to hang out in! This one obviously has Beck at it again with her detective sleuthing. One of her newly acquired friends is having some issues with bad things happening around her. Read this story to find out if Beck can solve this one before it’s too late! (Please read these in order. You don’t have to, but they’re so worth it!)
This was my first cozy mystery and now I’m anxious to read more. I fell in love with the characters and got lost in the search to find a murderer. Clever hints led me in different directions and just when I thought I had it all figured out, a new twist was introduced. Having spent many years of my life around tennis clubs, the characters were totally realistic and relatable to me. But whether you’re a tennis player or not you will enjoy the story.
A Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 3) by Judy Moore - Review by Krista Vaughan
Beck is a girl after my own heart! She helps run the family bookstore/cafe with her Grandmother and loves reading! She's not a highly athletic person, but she agrees to free lessons from hot tennis pros at a private tennis club when offered to appease her sister. One of the pros wings up dead, and Beck grabs the chance to work with the hot detective she's been crushing on to help solve the mystery of "who done it"! Kept me guessing until the end!
Judy Moore’s third book in this series is excellent. Centered around the world of pro tennis, it’s a glimpse into the darker side of life on the courts and around the club. Beck and her sister are taking lessons, in the height of summer in Florida, putting them in they perfect spot to get involved in murder. Beck’s accidental but sincere meeting of the top ranking tennis star becomes an instant friendship over their love of books. But when murder happens and her new friend is center to the investigation, Beck has to help. There are plenty of suspects and clues, but the reasoning and ending will take you by surprise. I highly recommend this book.
This book is a great read. With well developed characters and a fantastic setting the reader is drawn right in. I would definitely recommend reading the first two books in the series to familiarize yourself with all the characters. If you're looking for a well written cozy with interesting characters and plenty of red herrings thrown in, this is the book and series for you. I received a copy of this book from the author and I'm voluntarily providing an honest review.
This author is a gifted storyteller that weaves a fantastic cozy mystery that connects and enthralled. This series is a must read for all mystery lovers and this latest addition is just as good as its predecessors. You can read this on its own but you will want to read the entire series once you start. They are just that well written. Beck is just a fantastic character to follow and I thoroughly enjoy reading her latest adventures. Hoping for more very soon!
A Tennis Pro to Die For by Judy Moore is the third book in the Cozy Mysteries to Die For series. This is a nice, quick read and great to return to the familiar characters of Beck, Lizzie, and Devon. This can be read as a standalone and completely enjoyed. I have read the other books in the series and it is nice to have the recurring characters and see how they are changing as the series progresses. I read this quickly and was left wanting the next book in the series. I enjoy the characters and the odd murders they find themselves involved in. This is a great getaway book to get your mind off of all the craziness of the world and allow yourself to find yourself elsewhere. I hope there is more to this series and look forward to more from this author in the future.
A nifty read. Although a bit predictable. Fun time with upper echelon tennis pros. I followed tennis for 13 yrs till my favorites retired so I already had a pretty good idea about the grueling work put in and the overbearing father/coach. Nice to find Beck a consultant now and more romance with Devon.
I love these Cozy Mysteries. Always a good story, always a good mystery. In A Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 3) by Judy Moore, I sure got fooled. I was absolutely certain I had it figured out. I was surprised. I love the gentle love story between Beck and Devon. This book was good clean fun.
A Tennis Pro To Die For (Cozy Mysteries To Die For Book 3) by Judy Moore
This is the perfect busy life read! Life can get busy where you go a couple days without getting the chance to read then lose interest in a book, but not this one! Every single chapter will have you enthralled; you won't want to put it back down. It's an easy to follow fun mystery that lets you connect with the characters and root for their small victories- sometimes that victory is hitting the ball over the net, sometimes it's simply just hitting the ball!
I really enjoyed reading this uncomplicated cozy mystery novel and having not read the first two books in this stand alone series I can't wait to go find them. Beck is living my dream life and I'm excited to see where we go next!
Enjoyable even if you are not into tennis. Same lovable characters from other two cozy mysteries in this series. Beck begrudgingly is taking tennis lessons & gets involved in a tennis pro’s untimely murder. Has twists & turns - a fun read with a happy ending!
Judy Moore brings us back to our favourite book store and coffee shop in Manatee Beach, Florida. This time Beck and her sister Lizzie are taking tennis lessons among some snooty classmates. Of course, it isn't long before there is a murder to be solved and Beck becomes a detective once more! Who killed the tennis pro during the hit and run and why? I am sure you will "love" this mystery as much as I did!
I really like this one. It started off a little slow but worth it. A couple of things I hope Judy Moore improves on, I work like to see Beck be stronger with more confidence. I don’t like that she constantly compares herself with Lizzie. Also I know Lizzie is young but it would be nice for her to be nicer to Beck
A Tennis Pro to Die For is book three in the Cozy Mysteries to Die For series written by Judy Moore. This is a great who done it mystery and was cleverly written. I was excited to read the work of this new to me author. It has been a long time since I have read a good mystery. The story sucked me in as I tried to solve the mystery. The characters were well developed, had striking personalities, and they were very easy to relate to. The story evolved really well and kept me interested and invested from the beginning. A Tennis Pro to Die For was a thoroughly entertaining read. 4 stars.
Well, what happens when you are bullied into taking tennis lessons but your instructor mysteriously ends up in a hit and run accident, it could only happen to Beck.
Beck has been hounded by her sister Lizzie to start going to Tennis lesson, so after a lot of coercing she finally gives in and starts her lessons at the local Country Club, but when Beck hears that one of the Tennis pros is found in a hit and run scenario her sleuthing vibes come to the forefront and is itching to get involved in the investigation but will Devon let her get involved. So to her surprise when Devon asks for her help she is all to eager to help solve this murder.
I have read all the books up to this stage in the Cosy murders and I love them, the characters are wonderful and I love to see the growth of them in each book I read. Beck is such a wonderful forthright character who knows exactly what she wants and is not afraid to run for it headlong even though sometimes it may get her into more trouble. I am so intrigued in reading the next book to see if the relationship of Devon and Beck moves into the next gear as I love the anticipation of the bubbling chemistry.
Although I love the main characters in these books, I am also glad the secondary characters are moving forward also, with Granny and Scratchoff (please involve him more, I love this character). With the fast pace of the book, you have no time to be caught sleeping, the book whisks you along with the story and you will end up saying that famous line “just one more chapter” and you know we have all been there. The story is well written and the plot twists are brilliant. I think this was my best book so far purely because of the interactions and the growth of the characters. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to see where the next adventure/crime will take us. Although this can be read as a standalone book, I would recommend that you read the series as you get a better insight into the characters.
