If you have not been reading, the McIntyre Security Bodyguard Series, I suggest you do. It will help with some of the characters’ names and references as the story moves along. Otherwise, at times you will be trying to figure out what’s going on. As with the friends at her bachelorette party. It took me a hot minute to figure out who, Gina and, Gabrielle are. At the nightclub where they went to go dancing. Making me wonder how good a friend as is, Gabrielle is since she knows her, Beth the best. With her high anxiety, her hate for crowds, and she doesn't dance it just seems odd.
Imagine her shock when she is once again confronted by, Shane’s ex, Luciana Morelli. She went off on, Beth saying when Shane gets tired of his little toy, he’ll come back to her. Then, she made fun of, Beth’s ring compared to the engagement ring, Shane gave, Luciana, that she still wears. Then, she shows the ring to, Beth. Poor, Beth tries not to flinch, or change expressions, but it guts her. Shane said they dated he never, ever said they were engaged. If he had she could have been prepared with comebacks or something, anything other than pure shock and all-out hurt and betrayal. Omission same as a lie.
But, it appears that Beth has become public enemy number one on, Luciana’s list. She wants to unnerve, gaslight, and even eliminate, Beth. With all indicators pointing back to her getting, Shane back. But, when her intended victim is, not who gets hurt the most, but someone close to her. The gloves are off. This is such a touchy-feely book. I ended up feeling tears before, I realized it was happening in several places.
I didn’t think I could ever feel this for Cooper's character, but I’m disappointed in, Cooper. He deserved the morning after feeling, that feeling of rejection is, how his partner has been feeling. Being someone’s dirty secret is not cool.
Still, let me just say this book doesn’t make me like, Gabrielle or, Tyler any better. To tell you the truth by the end of this book I am heartbroken for Sam. But, he is a hero, twice over. Loved this book.
