This Holiday Brides book #4 is a sweet contemporary romance with more ups and downs than a roller coaster. Cowboy entrepreneur Kaden Ford proposes marriage to his love, Katherine Kelly, on Christmas and they’re looking for a spring wedding. Wow, it starts on a high note but gets on the slippery slope soon thereafter. The wedding venue in Spokane is double booked and there's a freak snow storm, the reception in the park is cancelled due to a pest infestation, Kat’s wedding dress gets lost, AND, the wedding announcements have Kaden’s name misspelled! Poor Kat was an orphan, raised by her dear Aunt Lou. As a bank manager, she is normally buttoned down, composed, and sensible. But old life-long insecurities have resurfaced and she suffers a good old-fashioned nervous breakdown. Poor Kaden is broken-hearted as Kat calls the wedding off. Relatives and friends of Kaden and Kat living at the Golden Skies retirement village are not quite over the hill yet and must devise another devious plan to rescue Kaden and Kat, since they can’t seem to rescue themselves! With all the ups and downs, will the wedding ever come off or will they be doomed to failure? The story begins slowly and predictably but ends with a wild emotional ride that will leave you breathless, thrilled and totally entertained.
This was such a precious book. Not everyone can write sweet romance the way Shanna Hatfield can, she truly captures romance. When Kaden proposes to Katherine, her dreams have come true. She’s been planning what her wedding will look like, since she was old enough to add her dreams to her bridal binder. Kaden loves Katherine and is just beside himself that she accepted his proposal. How can everything so perfect become so crazy and chaotic? Thank goodness for two stubborn Octogenarian’s, who can’t help but meddle, when it comes to true love. This was such an uplifting, fun-loving romance.
Oh my heavens. Poor Kat! What a crazy adventure she had in trying to plan her wedding. I couldn't even imagine. Makes me a little nervous for when my own children have weddings and we're trying to work through all the plans. Lol!
All the catastrophes and craziness aside, this was such a sweet book to enjoy. I loved Kat and Kaden's love for each other. Such a cute couple. I couldn't help but cheer them on towards starting their life adventures together. I haven't read the other books in this series but there were a few references about Kaden's brothers and their own brides that added some fun to the story as well as making me want to go back and read those books as well.
There were several great characters throughout the book that had me smiling and laughing out loud. Kat's great aunt Lou (or her grandmother figure) was a hoot! I loved the couple little snippets about her own love story. But I loved her support of Kat and the care she offers her. Kat's parents passed away when she was young and she was raised by Aunt Lou. Lou and her octogenarian friends were just so much fun! They added a great dimension to this sweet story. I loved their scheming ways.
The authors note was pretty fun to read as well because she described where the inspiration for some of the upheavals and events in the story came from. I'm so glad that through it all, Kat and Kaden were able to figure everything out. Kaden was just adorable. I loved how he let Kat know that she was what mattered to him and not all the little details of the wedding. So sweet.
If you're looking for a sweet, charming, delightful read, check this one out!
Content: Clean. Some kisses and a couple very sweet and mild innuendos as the bride and groom head off to their honeymoon. Nothing graphic or in detail.
I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
I loved the elderly matchmakers! I loved how they helped Kaden and Kat to get back together after so many things kept going wrong. I loved how Kaden was so supportive of Kat throughout the wedding planning even though he would be happy with something simple. I liked how after everything that could go wrong, does and the wedding is called off how Kat and Kaden have people who love them and wont let them give up without a fight. I like that everything worked out in the end and Kat and Kaden learned what was most important.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
No bride wants ANYTHING to go wrong with her wedding plans. But what happens when EVERTHING goes wrong… In love with her cowboy entrepreneur, Kaden Ford, Katherine Kelly is over-the-moon ecstatic when he proposes on a snowy Christmas Eve. Knowing every one of her dreams is coming true, she sets out to create the perfect spring wedding…except the as the date comes closer all her best laid plans go awry. Beginning with a freak snowstorm, the avalanche of mishaps keep snowballing. As bad as the snowstorm was, nothing could prepare Katherine and Kaden for a double-booked wedding venue, misspelled invitations, a lost wedding dress, and a pest infestation. As the wedding plans fall apart and Katherine’s emotions spiral out of control, Kaden does everything in his power to assure Katherine all he cares about is loving and marrying her. Nothing else matters, not the venue, the weather, the dress…just her. But when old insecurities re-surface, Katherine calls off the wedding and heart-broken Kaden reluctantly steps away. Enter Katherine’s Aunt Lou and the residents of the Golden Skies Retirement Home. With the help of Kaden’s brothers and their wives, the octogenarians concoct a plan to bring Katherine and Kaden the happily-ever-after they deserve. This journey back to Holiday, Oregon and the Golden Skies Retirement home (aka – The Hokey Pokey Hotel) has all the hallmarks of a Shanna Hatfield contemporary sweet romance. Once again Ms. Hatfield has given her readers a story full of true-to-life characters, a believable plot, humor, heart, a host of animals, a hunky cowboy, and the beautiful, spirited woman who loves him. With many laugh-out-loud moments and poignant memories from both Kaden and Katherine’s past, this sweet romance will capture your heart.
Another fantastic story by this author who always writes amazing stories that are ones you just can’t put down. This is the newest story in the Holiday Brides series. This Lilac Bride is one that may not be titled by a holiday but it is one that the bride wanted a spring wedding and had to have lilacs. She also wanted one in a certain park in Oregon where her parents were married but she lost them both early in life and had to live with an aunt. To have them be part of her wedding, she felt it a must to get married in the same park and around the same time her parents did. Her hunky cowboy was all for whatever she wanted as he loved her so much, but then too many things started going wrong and it just seemed this wasn’t meant to be in her mind. He had been doing his best to let her have the wedding she wanted but after getting so upset about all that was going wrong, she lost it and called it off. That was such an emotional break up that he lost it too and didn’t know what to do. The octogenarian home that many of the grandparents of young people in town live in are always trying to match people up or get them back together, but this time it was a good interference that they pulled. Needless to say, it was awesome. Anyway get this story and you won’t be sorry. It you haven’t read the other books in this series, read the Valentine’s Day Bride to start it off. They are all great stories and you’ll get to know the people of this fun town where the crazy grandparents are just trying to have everyone fall in love. I received a copy of the story. I have given my honest opinion and I wanted to review this story as it was so good and I loved it.
It’s always a treat to return to Golden Skies and see what our resident schemers are up to. I wasn’t really sure what kind of assistance they would need to give our couple, seeing how they were already together, engaged, and planning the wedding. A bit of a twist, this book, starting at what we always see as the end of the story, the proposal. But, as most know, planning the wedding is no easy task. And so it begins…. I really enjoyed Kat and Kaden’s story. It was full of humor as well as some very poignant moments. A great addition to the Holiday Brides series.
I received an ARC of this book, however this review is my own opinion and given voluntarily.
This books starts with a proposal and the bride with a purpose to have the same wedding as her late parents. But it all falls apart. Is it a sign or can this couple with the help of some sweet older matchmakers still have the marriage of their dreams. A sweet but different story than the others in the series. Love always wins.
Great characters, fun and quirky too. This is a great story, all the disasters were enough to make anyone throw theirs hands up and be done with it. I loved how everyone pitched in and meddled in the affairs of the bride and groom. There were some laugh out loud moments that kept you smiling long after the fact. Sweet romance that captures your heart and leaves you with a smile. Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
I really liked this story. I was a bit aggravated with Kat and her attitude sometimes, but seeing where she is coming from, it is understandable. Glad she finally came around. Kaden is such a good guy. He loves Kat so much and when her wedding plans imploded, he thought they could just make other plans. Wrong! Kat wanted everything a certain way and nothing was working out for her. She wanted a way to honor her mom and dad and to feel close to them on her big day, but it just wasn't happening. Will they finally get married?
Katherine is looking forward to her wedding , after Kaden proposes . all Kaden wants is for her to be happy and get married, she wants the perfect day that she thinks she wants, if you like romance and animals you will want to read the story, i love the matchmakers and of course the animals. i do not want to give anything away but could not put the book down to the end. i was given a copy of the book but this is an honest review. sometimes what we want is not what we really need. looking forward to the next book
Katherine Kelly is a woman who knows what she wants for her wedding to cowboy Kaden. Every woman wants her wedding to be perfect and sometimes things cause us to have to deviate from the plan. I absolutely fell in love with Katherine and Kaden's love story. Sometimes when things don't go as planned it leads to wonderful things! You won't want to put this book down.
It's a charming, fun & moving story. I truly enjoyed reading this sweet romance. Katherine ❤ Kaden, fell in love the second their eyes met. Now they're planning their wedding. Everything was going as planned, till is wasn't. With love & support of family & friends, anything is possible. I loved it for the very first page. A MUST READ!!
such an awesome story and so true to real life - you are just there as Kat's wedding plans one by one go down the tubes - then she get scared and thankfully Kaden comes to his senses and they move on to their HEA!! I read a bookfunnel version and freely leave my review!
Katherine Kelly met Kaden Ford, Colton's younger brother, at Piper and Colton's wedding. Less than a year later, after Kaden's romantic proposal, Katherine has every detail of her own dream ceremony planned. However, when things start falling apart with just weeks to go before the event, Katherine tells Kaden she cannot marry him. Enter Ruth, Rand, and Matilda from Golden Skies Retirement Village, joined by newest resident, Katherine's Aunt Lou, to save the day.
Lilac Bride, Book 4 of Holiday Brides, brings another opportunity for the elderly relatives of the past and present couples in this series to use their hilarious tricks to ensure a happy ending. I always enjoy catching up with previous characters and a great job was done of that. Shanna Hatfield's color choices for this novella were beautiful and, as always, everything was described in exquisite detail. As Ms. Hatfield states in her author note, lilacs are a special reminder of our grandmothers and mothers, and they added a sentimental touch to this story.
I received a free Kindle and paperback copy of this book. I volunteered to read it and write a review.
This follows a couple from their engagement to their wedding. There are obstacles along the way that they run into which make you wonder if their relationship will survive and will there actually be a wedding. I enjoyed how characters from previous books were actively involved in the story. I noticed more faith elements in this story than I have in other books by their author (but that could just be that I really noticed it in this one - which was nice). They talk about turning to God for guidance and praying before decisions. I do wish it was longer, I wanted to spend more time with all these characters.
Lilac Bride was yet another wonder romance novel from Shanna Hatfield. Shanna's amazing writing skills, character building, humor and the antics she so often puts into her books makes her my go-to-author for sweet romance. If I need an uplifting fun romance next in my book line up, Shanna is my girl!
Katherine Kelly has been planning her wedding since she was a young girl cutting out pictures and pasting them into her bridal binder. When Kaden Ford proposes, Katherine's dreams of her perfect wedding are set in motion. Everything is planned & in perfect order just like everything in Katherine's life. Well, that is until about a month before the wedding everything starts going array. A freak snowstorm may kill the lilac fields, her wedding gown is lost, the bridesmaid dresses are wrong, the invitation were printed wrong. Absolutely everything thing is falling apart and Katherine believes it all to be a sign that the wedding should not go on!!
Kaden Ford is a cowboy and entrepreneur that had his life on track at a young age. Now his idea of a perfect wife to spend the rest of his life with has agreed to marry him. Kaden doesn't care where the wedding is, what everyone wears or about flowers and such. He does want Katherine to have her perfect wedding but can he convince her that all that stuff isn't what's important. Can their love for each other overcome the storm of Katherine's perfect wedding falling apart.
Well if the two little ole town busy-body, match makers have any say, the wedding will go on!
This story has mixed feelings for me. It had sweet moments, humor, and a bit of mystery. On the other hand, there was way too much kissing (more than all the romance books I've read this year combined it felt like). And Kat (the FMC) felt whiny during most of the beginning of the story while Cayden (the MMC) was so focused on her physical appearance (a mention of her ankles and what it would be like to untie her heels gave me an ick). He would say he didn't care about the wedding details and while I understand that guys usually don't care as much as women I felt like the way he said it was mean and he mentioned feeling sorry about other things but not for that. I did want them to end up together but the way certain things happened in the end felt immature. I think both characters needed to develop more and while there were some good quotes and faith elements most of their character arc and faith in God to overcome near the end was more told instead of shown which left me feeling a lack of connection with them. I loved Kat's caring aunt and how Kat realized that losing her parents caused a fear of being left that she hadn't dealt with. The fear hit close to home for me but unfortunately again I didn't really see a healing journey but the ending was interesting and creative.
It was supposed to be the happiest day of Kat's life marrying the love of her life Kaden Ford, but all the wedding plans leading up it became one disaster after another. She loses the reception venue, can't marry where she wants, her wedding and bridesmaid dresses are not what she ordered, the wedding invitations are wrong, and a snowstorm may keep her from having the lilacs. In her fear over getting hurt, she figures it's all a sign that she and Kaden aren't meant to be and calls the wedding off. They are both a little stubborn and neither wants to make the first move to work it out. I'll admit I don't know what I'd do if I planned a wedding and everything went wrong. It would make me consider eloping and getting married on a tropical island. Fortunately her great aunt and her matchmaker friends have a plan.
It is so fun to read this series and my favorite characters in this series are the octogenarian matchmaker; they really add a fun element to the story. Katherine has all her wedding plans done and thinks it is so easy now beacause all she has to do is wait for the big day. As the big day gets closer everything starts to go wrong leaving Katherine to wonder if she should get married. The characters in these stories just make you root for them even when everything goes wrong. As always a few twists and turns come into play along with some great laugh out loud moments. This can read as a standalone though totally worth the time to read the whole series and very engaging stories from the get go.
Katherine wants her wedding to Kaden to be perfect. But where, when and how does not make a perfect wedding. When her perfect plans begin to fall apart and she cancels the wedding her Aunt and other retirement home residents come to the rescue. They scheme to get her and Kaden together so she will realize that the love they have for each other is what matters, not the plans. You will love this sweet and funny romance and you will be inspired by the shenanigans of the older generation! Don’t miss this new clean short read from Shanna Hatfield!
I have really enjoyed the Holiday Brides series, especially the shenanigans of Matilda and Ruth (and their trusty side kicks). As I started this book it appears we don’t need them to help love along as Kaden and Katherine are engaged and well into planning their perfect wedding. However, I was not disappointed, there’s always space for Matilda and Ruth to interfere and of course make things better. Lilac Bride is an engaging read full of laughs. I love the way Shanna Hatfield makes the characters so real that I end up dreaming of them myself. Definitely a book to read and keep.
How many mishaps can a bride endure while planning the wedding of her dreams? Lilac Bride is a humorous delightful read about how life throws curve balls when planning the wedding of one's dreams. As a Midwesterner, I understand quirky spring weather, and the draw of lilacs and their fragrance. Relatable characters, some unusual twists in the plot, and a believable resolution. Thank you Shanna Hatfield, especially for including the inspiration behind the various anecdotes, which made this avid reader chuckle.
Kat and Kaden fell in love hard and fast. As Kat plans the wedding everything seems set, except one by one things bite the dust. Enough that Kat pushes Kaden away and is not sure she wants to get married now. But some good advise makes her realize the real reason she is pushing Kaden away. Now some well meaning friends have a surprise to get them back together in time for their wedding. Its not always the fancy wedding but the love between each other that matters.
This started with a twist in that Kaden had already met, wooed and captured Katherines heart. Memories of all our wedding mishaps played in my mind when I read this. There were times I really wished someone would shake Katherine to open up room in her head for common sense about the wedding and compassion for Kaden and others. When those charming octogenarians swooped in to rescue the wedding I was charmed even more.
I am a huge fan of Shanna Hatfield and this book is a great example of why. She knocked it out of the.park once again. The main characters Kat and Kaden are meant to be together. This is a continuation in a family of brothers, in the town of Holiday mixed in with some interfering group of hilarious octogenarian. You can't go wrong with humor and love. Grab your copy today and kick back and enjoy. Clean read!
This is a lovely book with a sweet storyline that entertained me from beginning to end. Written by one of my very favorite authors, Shanna Hatfield, I'm always happy to preorder any book she writes, knowing I'll love the book and all the entertaining characters that live in it. Will purchase the next one if the author decide to write another book to the series. JudyE
Katherine and Kaden have been dating each other for a while now. He knows that he wants to ask Katherine to marry him. So on Christmas Eve he proposes and then they plan on a wedding in May. She lost her parents years ago and had to live with the Aunt Lou who she loves like a Mom. Kaden is also really good with Aunt Lou.
In this book you will laugh and cry some. Shanna tells the story so that you feel like you are there. A great story.
I’m just going to put it out there, Katherine was hard to feel sorry for and Kaden had the patience of a saint. Okay, that probably sounds a bit harsh but Katherine had it better than many who lose their parents, she had Lou and her grandfather. All that said, I really did enjoy this book even when I wanted to pick Kat up and shake her. I still really enjoy the explanations for the various scenarios at the end of the book.
