Along with Helen Levitt's stunning photographs is the best essay I have ever read about photography written by James Agee. This is truly a beautiful book.

Collection of black and white photos by Levitt, most taken on the streets of New York. Interesting and historically significant.

You might be familiar with these images if you know Helen Levitt's work. They are gritty urban streets from the 1940s. It reminds me of my childhood in the 1950s when we were always playing outside in neighborhood groups. There was something that connected all of us, and Levitt's photos have even more of this humanity than our motley group of children who played together every day.
