This author did a great job analyzing the information we need to better understand not only how to fix our skin problems, but also how they’re often signs of a larger problem going on in our body somewhere. Whether it’s nutrient deficiencies, gut health, liver problems, or hormones, she lays out what to look for and it was really eye-opening! My favorite part was definitely the list of foods she points out to help aid in certain nutrients and meal plans. Unfortunately, this was the only actionable thing I was able to take from this book.
As a business, her book is an excellent strategy to drive more customers to her website, where people can purchase her products, lab tests, and courses for a lot more money. My biggest annoyance was seeing this clear strategy, and it left me feeling like I can’t really do anything with the knowledge I now have without what I consider an exorbitant amount of money. Perhaps our nation’s system simply doesn’t have the resources available to better help us reach our health and wellness goals, as was a point she did make, but even if that’s the case, I’m not in a position to afford doing so.
Another critique I have is that her links in the book often don’t lead anywhere. The page either didn’t exist or was experiencing errors. I then found out that she hasn’t officially launched her website yet. If you’re going to include links in your book, make sure they actually work.
I have a lot of mixed feelings about this book. I really value the foods she listed for each nutrient and the abundance of information. I just wish I could do something about what I learned without spending hundreds or thousands of dollars.
This is not what I was looking for. I am trying to find the latest research on acne to support my adolescent children. This book is mostly about adult acne and how it could be a signal of other health co-morbidities and imbalances. I believe that and I appreciate the summary but this still didn't teach me what acne actually IS. This book has next to nothing about the function of the skin, the layers of the skin, what a breakout actually is, what is the advantage of the more popular treatments such as LED light, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, etc. I'll keep looking.
Honestly was deeply disappointed about this book. It had too much holistic and naturopathic ideas and thinking. It was saying all these claims with no proof evidence or backing. It didn’t talk about what acne was which was what this book claimed to talk about. It just talked about what foods to eat for better skin which was not what this book said it was going to talk about and again no backing to it there is no scientific evidence and SPECIFIC food hurts or helps acne but food does impact skin but no evidence which food. Again there was so much claims but no proof or backing.
This was a great read. It was very informative. It shares a great way to address and treat acne in a more natural way. Acne really comes from your entire body and it was very enlightening to read. Definitely changed part of my routine.
It’s Not Just Acne by Dr. Shayna Peter is a must read; and a valuable addition to anyone’s personal library. Dr. Shayna sheds light on the root causes of acne, which is a manifestation of inner imbalance. At the outset, the author shares her personal experience with skin issues. This app demonstrates that her knowledge is not solely based upon her clinical experience, but someone who truly been there. The book is full of information, stories, and most importantly, action steps. Readers will walk away with a better understanding and a feeling of empowerment that they can have not only better skin, but better overall health.
This was a great book! A lot of the information the author went over is so overlooked by modern medicine. It is great that there are people actually addressing the root problem of things.
