I read this book in one sitting. I met the author 20 years ago, when my son played a part in a play about the Holocaust (we live in his hometown). Harold spoke after the play. The author passed this year, and I realized I never read his book. What a story! God was definitely protecting him to serve a purpose. He talks about that in the last pages of his story. I found myself fighting back tears. Bravo, sir. RIP.

Very Interesting Book

The holocaust was such a sad, but significant tragedy. This story tells of the horrific events through the eyes of a child. The most important lesson is this boy’s ultimate decision of how to go on with his life. This should give anyone who reads it the encouragement that their life is significantly. Circumstances that happen to us do not dictate the rest of our lives.

This is an excellent book written by a Jewish man reflecting on his youth during the horrible time of WW2 and the Holocaust. It is important to learn about history and to be on guard that this is what can happen when people do not value others. The strength and bravely it took for Harold Gordon to endure and later to share his story is amazing. I saw a glimpse of what he experienced through his writings and hope that no one ever has to face such a horrible ordeal. It makes me thankful for all that I have and can easily take for granted (air, comfort, food, water, family, etc). I'm very glad that the author lived on to have a productive life, despite so many who wanted to snuff out his life, simply for his being Jewish. It shows how disgusting racism is, what it ultimately can lead to, and how we as people need to value each other.

This is a great story of bravery and strength. The story takes place during WWII where Harold Gordon and his family are thrown into a Ghetto and then into a concentration camp. This is a true story and very inspiring.

An amazing story of bravery and clear thinking during incredibly difficult times. My paternal grandfather was from Grodno, Poland which is why I initially wanted to read this book. I'm glad that I did. What an amazing story.
