In this extensively revised and expanded second edition, we find updated descriptions of progressive teaching in six subject reading, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and the arts.
Was given this book by school administrators of “specials” teachers, therefore only read the arts section (my teaching area). I was hoodwinked by the title that there would be classroom management tips in this book. There were none. What I read was a collection of reasons why schools should include an arts education. I suppose if I had to go before a school board I might find it useful. Aside from that, the preachy tone and old arguments I’d heard from professors a long time ago made [this] a true waste of my time.
I loved the content. At times it comes across a bit righteous, like their way is the only way. Also, at times it reads like a textbook. But overall, I enjoyed it. It left me with plenty to think about.
