The Grove: A Short Supernatural Horror Story

Rate this book
Strange creatures roam beneath the shadowed canopies of Germany's Black Forest, and horror awaits those misfortunate enough to encounter them… Eric and Amanda were looking forward to a relaxing and romantic honeymoon. The Black Forest offered a perfect opportunity – isolation, beautiful scenery, and plenty of historical significance. But there's a reason such places gave rise to the legends told by the Brothers Grimm. When their car is mysteriously totaled, they frantically search for any signs of civilization. But they’ve ventured too deep into the forest's depths, and something twisted cries from out the darkness. Now faced with untold terror, they must struggle to escape whatever looms beyond the light of their fire. Will they survive? And even if they do, will they still retain their sanity? This is a horror story packed with anticipation as Eric and Amanda come face to face with predators that prey on mind and body alike. Get it now. This story is from Travis Liebert's horror collection Things Undone – Available now on Amazon.

This time the author takes us to the Black Forest together with Eric and Amanda, two camping tourists. What about the mysterious monster walking the woods? What about the strange trees and the face appearing within? Can Eric and Amanda escape this deadly forest? A nice classic horror tale about an enchanted forest and some creepy things lurking there. Recommended!

“A child’s face pressed out of the tree’s wood, its expression contorted in agony and its mouth thrown open in a scream of torment.”

Amanda and Eric are a pair of freshly minted Master Degree college graduates, in Literature and Philosophy respectively, and they are on their honeymoon in in the Black Forest of Germany. There honeymoon is not just a tourist trip, bit also a camping trip, and so, looking for a good camping ground, they go down a neglected side road looking for a place to pitch their camp when Amanda sees something strange moving through the woods.

The pair will write the sighting off though, and so, despite some unease, Amanda and Eric find a place to set up their camp, and hit the hay. Still, Eric hears something moving around outside the tent, and then everything hits the fan and the pair are stranded with no place to go, and they have a long no place to go only on foot.

In-the-end, The Grove by Travis Liebert is just a good old fashioned weird tale that would not have been out of place in any of the old weird magazines of the past. Not only that, I think that The Grove would make a good story to tell around a campfire.

All-in-all, a good tale well told, although I’m not sure how it fits into Liebert’s “Shattered God Mythos”, although I hope to read more of his fiction and find out.
