Sometimes the thing that you just cannot see is right in front of you, clear as can be. From beloved author/illustrator Michelle Nelson-Schmidt comes a wonderful read-aloud rhyming tale about finding and being a friend whoever you are, wherever you are.
I write and illustrate books for children. I love to laugh, I love to have fun. I do not have time for mean people. Life is too short to not do what you love for a living. Or deal with mean people.
I like smiling. It's my favorite.
“Promise me you'll always remember: You're braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. --Christopher Robin to Pooh”
This was another book by Michelle Nelson-Schmidt that was recommended to me by a patron of our library. After having read Cordelia and Bob is a Unicorn by this author, I was a bit disappointed with this one. I felt like the story was very "cookie-cutter" and is a story that has already been told.
While still having a sweet positive message, the story is not very original.
This is a story about finding friendship, when it was already there. But I liked Michelle's books with themes of being a little different or having a big imagination much better. They were a lot more unique and original and share messages that I think kids really need to hear in today's time.
I will not be purchasing this title for my library as I do not feel as if the message is as strong as the other titles and it does not add anything new or unique to our collection. Not a bad story, just not unique.
This is such a sweet story about friendship. I love how Dog and Mouse are there for each other and what a lovely reminder this book is about sometimes we cannot see what’s right in front of us. On Michelle’s Wednesday StoryTime Lives via Facebook she often asks people to be mouse people. They are the helpers! The illustrations are so sweet. Our boys have enjoyed this story for years and now our little girl is enamored with the book.
An adequate tale of friendship as Dog, in his quest to find a very best friend who is loyal and true, is joined by Mouse, who volunteers to help because helping was her favorite and very best skill. The rhyming text borders on forced and the sweetness of the story is just shy of toxic, but in general, it is child-friendly tale with simple, uncluttered illustrations. While there are better tales of friendship already on the library shelves, this one will certainly be welcomed and enjoyed by young children. Optional.
Rhyming text of a big yellow dog and a little gray mouse. Dog sits outside every day looking for a best friend. Mouse sits with him and helps him look. They look high and low but never find a best friend for Dog. Then one day when Mouse is late, Dog thinks that she isn't coming. Remembering all the fun they had looking for his best friend, Dog realizes that Mouse is his best friend after all!
