About the author
Stuart G. Yates
148 books34 followersMy first published book 'Cold Hell in Darley Dene' (written as Glenn Stuart) was the culmination of years of trying to get myself into print. Back in 1979 I submitted a novel to a publisher, and in 2009 Darley Dene was accepted. Thirty years of honing my skills, and learning a lot about the world. If I had the chance, I'd almost certainly re-write all of my books, improve them, make them more solid, because the more we write, the better we get. This is what has happened to 'Darley Dene'. It's now available as 'Lament for Darley Dene', re-written and improved. Soon, you will find the same with 'The Pawnbroker', a horror story which I am sure many out there will enjoy.
My current day-job is being a teacher, a job I love. Without it I would not be able to continue to write; it also gives me a wealth of characters and so many ideas. The bills get paid too!
I write now as Stuart G Yates in a range of genres. Unflinching is my best-selling Western, but if you like historical fiction, thrillers or spine-tingling horror, I am sure I have a title for you.
For the moment, I live in Spain, which is not so wonderful as people try to make out, and I would dearly love to return to Old Blighty, find a little cottage and write full time. Or the Philippines and be with my fiance, marry her, find happiness. Dreams, but dreams that I am trying very hard to make true. Afterall, it's dreaming what writers do best...don't they?

It starts off with a bang. Our hero picks up a hitchhiker who then pulls a gun on said hero. Chaise wrestles the man’s hand for control of the gun. Said gun goes off killing the hitchhiker and the car goes out of control and skids off the road. Our hero is supposed to have clearance by the English agency, but the Spanish police refuse to honor it and confiscate his passport. From there you have every drug dealer in town trying to find the drugs that the hitchhiker was transporting. Women are raped, burned uo, men shot, cars run off the road and no one can find the drugs he was carrying. No, they ate not in the wrecked auto. More mayhem ensues as the bigger drug dealers go after drugs. Finally the police office goes after it, but not to keep it off the market. He wants to supplement his pension. The name of our hero isn’t even his as he was once a special agent. He has tried to settle down and live a normal, but it isn’t to be. His love leaves him and the special forces of the Spanish agents arrive.

This is the first book in the Ryan Chaise series by Stuart G. Yates. Ryan Chaise is a former British intelligence agent living a quiet life in Southern Spain with his girlfriend, trying to leave his past behind. Chaise accidentally kills a hitchhiker who had a gun and was fleeing with a package of drugs. This act pulls him back into a dangerous world of drug dealers and gangsters who are trying to find the drugs the hitchhiker was transporting. As threats mount, Chaise must rely on his old spy skills to protect himself and those he loves. But survival means making hard choices of who to trust and who to kill. I really enjoyed this amazing fast-paced espionage thriller novel.

Pretty good. Though very confusing at first it finally sorted out the characters. Chaise makes for a decent hero. This is a case of several interested parties after some drugs. Each party is only aware of one of the other parties so it gets twisty.

You Can Check Out But You Can Never Leave
This was a really interesting story about people being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Drugs and greed play a big part in the story, leading to lots of violence and unexpected consequences.

Too violent for me
Action packed but too much violence. Also, female characters were one dimensional. Good plot twists however. But, you have to read the sequel to finish the story.

A readable book with good writing. The book has notes of spy thriller/ accidental crime witness/ organized crime. The plot is old but at the same time fresh.

Too violet
Didn’t finish because of the violence. The end was confusing and not my type of murder. Will look for better ones.

Story jumped around a lot
Story didn’t make sense in places, had spelling and grammar mistakes, and was hard to follow because so many characters. Was an ok though overall
