Illustrated in full color. Ride along with Big Frank and the rest of the crew as they race to the scene of an accident, inspect the local KwikShop, demonstrate fire safety at Niceview Elementary School, and battle a raging brush fire! In between calls, hang out at the firehouse with Big Frank and the gang. It's all in a day's--and night's--work for our firefighting friends.
Big Frank is quite the firefighter and takes the reader along on a wonderful journey through his twenty-four hour shift. From helping a burning vehicle to testing a store’s fire system, Big Frank is known for his ability to help. Bog Frank is happy to also help out in the schools, by teaching everyone the joys of fire safety and then making his way to the front lines of a dangerous blaze. Big Frank can do it all, but still loves to return home to his family, where he always is sought with open arms. There are days that Neo expresses an interest in being a firefighter and he loved all the aspects of this book. Great to see not only the dramatic side of the job, but also how dedication and community involvement shape those who protect us night and day.
A copy of this book came in a used Operation: Shrek Edition board game I bought on Facebook marketplace for 12 dollars. This bleary, joyless late night purchase has pushed me over the edge into facing that I have a minor shopping addiction & I am now addressing that. The woman firefighter “Janet” is quite beautiful. Otherwise I did not care about this book. I do not know why it was in my banged up copy of Operation: Shrek Edition along with a very cute and nice red teddy bear.
Great bedtime story for kiddos who are interested and love fire fighters/fire trucks.
We follow Big Frank through a 24 work shift. Performing safety inspections, teaching kids fire safety, having lunch at the station, taking a nap, and fighting a big brush fire that gets out of control.
My 5 yr old and 4 yr old listened and stayed entranced through the whole story.
Read this with my first graders and they were extremely interested all the way through. They had a load of questions and they were interested to learn more. That got me thinking … so the following day I changed all of our lessons to be entirely firefighter themed. We read the book again in the morning, we used it for individual reading practice, new vocab, math we counted firedogs, hoses and helmets. We even checked out YouTube videos featuring a range of firefighter related content. They were especially interested in the vehicles 🚒 so for art class we drew fire trucks 🚒 . Amazing how a single book can inspire an entire day of learning 📖🧠 This book follows Big Frank on his shift at the fire station. It’s a busy day for Frank with all kinds of action, but it’s all in a day’s work for a firefighter 👨🚒 The illustrations are fantastic and compliment the text perfectly. I would recommend for first grade and up. Keep in mind, there’s so much info in here you might lose the younger kids. It covers most aspects of a firefighter’s job and is presented beautifully. Highly recommend it!

My Review: This book follows Big Frank on a full shift as a firefighter. It shows the ups and downs of a long shift and the different things that firefighters do to keep people safe. I really like the touch at the end to show that firefighters, while heroes are still family to someone. Munchkin really liked this book and talking about things he already knew about firefighters and fire trucks. This is a great one for fans.
This is another favorite for the boy. This is a good introduction to firefighters and their gear. It depicts the action parts of a firefighter's job, naturally. The boy likes to tell me what everything is and what it is for as we read.
I like that the book reinforces a positive image of local heroes that is not overly dramatized or exaggerated. I give it points for not including old cat in the tree rescue, as well.
"Big Frank's Fire Truck" is a fantastic children's book that not only sparks a child's imagination but also educates them about fire safety and the essential role of firefighters. I highly recommend it to anyone seeking an entertaining and educational read for their young ones. As a proud grandparent, I am confident that my grandson will enjoy this book immensely, and I believe it will become a cherished favorite in his library.
Provides a good glimpse at activities a firefighter might do during one shift. Firefighter Frank is on a 24 hour shift, during which he does a fire inspection at a store, responds to a car accident, visits an elementary school for fire safety lessons, interacts with his coworkers, and responds to a brush fire. Great for any child who has an interest in firefighters.
Excellent book for your little firefighter. Great illustrations and story on the fire service. "Dedicated to Orange County Fire Station #39 ... and the Mortlake Fire Department of Brooklyn, Connecticut."
Officially, I have introduced my son Reuben to the world of fire fighting. Leslie McGuire's book takes us on a tour of the fire station and then plants us in the action of a raging fire which requires other fire departments to come in and help. An entertaining read for emergency first responders that we hold up as heroes.
My 3-year-old loved it (but she loves anything to do with fire engines). It is perfect for little ones. The book follows Frank for one 24-hour firefighting shift before he heads back home to his family.
A good book for anyone wanting to teach kids about firefighters and the great things they do. They are the heroes that run into a building when others are running out.
This was accidentally ordered by my then two year old son before my husband and i realized we needed a password on our kindle! We did keep it, however, because its very informative and covered a simple day in the life of a fireman, complete with a wildfire at the end. The drawback is that the story takes too long, and even for my (now) five year old, it drags a little about 3/4 of the way through. Still a good book, though.
The story follows Big Frank the firefighter around for a 24 hour shift. He does everything from safety checkups at the grocery store to responding to a car crash. There's a big brush fire so Big Frank and his company have to work all night to put it out. Asher (5 years old) and Dex (2 years old) both love this book.
Folks, this is it. This is officially a new classic in mi casa. Toto bien, amigos and amigas. My son loves this book, I love it. It's simple, exciting, and well illustrated. Your children will love it. Go get this book.
This book follows big Frank the firefighter on a 24 hour shift throughout his day. We see him go to in elementary school to discuss fire safety, put out a car fire, and put out a terrible forest fire.
The illustrations and text go together perfectly in this book. I think it definitely inspires print motivation. The vibrant colors draw the eye to the pages. The story is great. I recommend for all ages.
So great-- explains in detail what a fire fighter goes through during his shift (much more than just saving cats from trees and kids from burning windows). My 3 year old LOVES it.
Such a fun book to read about firemen and their jobs. My boys LOVE firemen, and firetrucks. This book teaches them more about what they do and what things are called.
