“I believe it was the night before Thanksgiving of the year I’d fallen for a tomboy fighter from a trailer park in South Jersey. I was in your kitchen when you told me cheating is wrong, and will never be right. But the biggest conflict is when you fall in love with someone who isn’t yours.
“You said people fall in and out of love every day, and that most of it is bullshit…being more about passion and temporary emotions. But when the person you’re cheating with is worth a commitment and sacrifice, and when you’re prepared in your heart and mind to walk through the fire of the mess, it might be something real after all. That was and still is KaToria McNabb.”
Fate via her unconceivable success reconnected the unlikely pair. What has happened? Why didn’t he call? Why didn’t she reach out?
Ashton and Tori unravel the paths their lives took after Blakewood State University. It’s been a painful twelve-year journey of losses, betrayal, miscommunications, and death. Even in between the devastation were new lives, burgeoning careers, and millions being earned by them both. Nonetheless, can the wins override the pain in between?
Love Belvin is a contemporary adult romance author renowned for her emotionally rich and character-driven novels, delving into the complexities of love and personal growth. With over 30 titles to her name, she’s established a significant presence in the romance genre.
Belvin’s writing is distinguished by her focus on deeply flawed characters who embark on transformative journeys toward healing and sustainable love. She conceptualizes her characters as “clients” seeking guidance through the therapeutic process of storytelling, offering readers an intimate look into their emotional evolutions.
Hailing from Paterson, NJ, Love’s passion for romance literature was ignited during her undergraduate studies after immersing herself in the works of the late Eric Jerome Dickey. This inspiration propelled her to begin crafting her own narratives, leading to a prolific writing career.
Belvin’s work is celebrated for its authentic portrayal of Black love, emotional depth, and the nuanced exploration of relationships. Her storytelling resonates with readers seeking narratives reflecting real-life challenges and triumphs in love.
This entire series was intense....First I would like to say that I enjoy the fact that this author allows some fan favorite characters from other stories to make appearances throughout the story...I enjoyed seeing the connections. This couple had a really intense and complicated relationship from the time Tori was 18 years old and enter BSU. This relationship continued into their early 30s....This was a slow burning rekindled relationship that required a lot of unpacking of feelings, emotions and other issues....I must say, I love how LB's brings her characters full circle and after a lot of unpacking, there's always a HEA.....Wesleigh & Emmanuel both did a phenomenal job narrating the various characters within the 3 book series....I must say I enjoyed the children especially in book 3....Excellent Job Love, Wesleigh & Emmanuel!
I literally just finished the book so I may re write this one once everything sinks in. I’ve been a Love Belvin fan for years. This morning I was pondering how I would rank her series. Like which one was the best. I always use the male lead as my measuring stick. Respectfully, this was my least favorite series. The first two books were leaps and bounds better than the last installment of this series with the first installment being the best. There were a couple of editing issues that I was shocked to see. Love’s books are always impeccably edited. Nothing that would prevent you from completing the book though. My honest thoughts... this last installment cost way more than what it should have. Listen, I’ll fight somebody about Love Belvin but I gotta keep it 💯. The first book took us back ya know? That in itself was a win. The second book broke our heart but still gave us those magnetic love scenes we’re used to with Love. I said this in the last review that the second half of the second installment was written way too fast. If generalizations was a second half. But it still gave us something to look forward to. The love scenes in this installment were umm.. not good. Sorry. I thought when she got that text on the dance floor I was like okay now! That’s the Love I know and that one was written well, but the others seemed to just not give any thrill at all. I don’t know ... I think I was actually bored with Ashton and Tori. I thought maybe to give us some excitement she would use Deon more as an antagonist but she didn’t. I think that was what it was missing. No real antagonist except Maggie. I mean I wanted to see Ashton flex a little about Tori. Wanted to see him be more territorial. He still seemed to have a difficult time coming to grips with the fact he loved her. Sure we could see his inner thoughts but what he actually told her was not equitable.
I think maybe the Bobby issue could’ve been addressed earlier on too.it seemed to just drag on and was like the grim reaper looming over every chapter that it wasn’t revealed in. I think if Love would’ve had it where Tori attempted to tell him or was going to tell him and something interrupted them then it would’ve played out better, but sometimes I couldn’t even enjoy them together because I knew that needed to be addressed. It was like waiting for the other shoe to drop the entire novel nearly.
So this book is Love Belvin through and through don’t get me wrong. You still get her style and her wit. You become connected with the supporting characters. You get propelled into the Love Belvin universe with all of her world building and surprise guests of stories past. It just isn’t as good as her others. That’s all.
I loved this series. I almost can’t even put into words how I felt when everything came full circle. Nabby-Girl and Ashton went THROUGH it. It’s wild to think that when they met in college, they really hadn’t known each other THAT long but their love was so intense (even though it was muted back then). There were some hard moments in this book but there were also a lot of good ones. Ashton grew on me and I was rolling my eyes about it 😂 It’s really wild that back in college Tori thought Ashton was just EVERYTHING and she doubted he could feel that way for her too. Ooh but girl he did 🥰 Love Belvin just always does it for me. I haven’t been disappointed yet.
I enjoyed the story, but the Ashton marrying Aivery reeks of incredulity . He never spoke to NormaJean again for what she did. He didn't even go to her funeral. Yet he married the woman whose sidedude ended his nascent career and cost him the woman that he truly loved?!?!? I mean Aivery wrote an apology letter to her sidedude for Ashton's family seeking recompense. Marry her, REALLY?!?!?!😂😂😂 And the reason put forward, because she was there, is sooooo weak.🤣🤣🤣 Other than that, good tale.
I went into Our Reckless Hope upset, angry, pissed the eff off. At Ashton mostly, but at the situation, these two were in, in general. But mostly upset at Ashton.
Going into Our Reckless Hope after witnessing the pain Tori endured because of or their recklessness in the previous book along with Ashton's emotional and pain-filled rejection, I wanted him to have to grovel, and plead, and BEG to be back in the good graces of the one and only Tori McNabb.
But then I folded. Because after getting a glimpse into what Ashton went through after "the incident" in Our Muted Recklessness, I realized that they both left that situation broken and I just wanted them to be HAPPY.
They had so much baggage. So many secrets. So much painful history both together and as individuals. They would take one step forward towards reconciliation, love, and understanding, just to be knocked ten steps back. And I just - wanted - them - to - be - happy.
Just like the title of this book, I was hoping, recklessly hoping, that they could get through all of their issues and find their way back to one another as whole and healthy people. But to make it to that point I had to walk with them through the knives, fire, and ice standing in their way. And it was PAINFUL. Beautifully and addictively painful. I loved and hated every minute of it.
Love Belvin has done it again. Created characters with a story that will stick with me long after I hit publish on this review. I finished this a couple of hours ago and still find myself going back and reading the highlights of my favorite quotes and scenes.
A masterpiece. Muted Hopelessness is a masterpiece.
Tori was a lot to deal with. Ashton was certainly flawed but he showed love relentlessly. When he was in it, he was in it! And he forgave Tori repeatedly. I really feel some typa way about her waiting so long to tell him about Bobby. That was so selfish and she deserved the fallout. Whew, Love knows how to get you in your feels!
**Edited to add: Tori was annoyingly more obsessed with Aivery than Ashton ever was. If she ain’t care so much about that girl she woulda known that she coulda bagged Ashton at Blakewood. Ok, im done.

Are these the same characters from book 1 & 2? I didnt like Book 3 at all I keep trying to reread to see if my mind will change but its a no for me. All through out this book Ashton was constantly blaming Tori for his f’d up decisions, like Tori didn’t ask him to go defend her to Aivery nor did anyone make him marry her. He chose to marry Aivery knowing she didn’t fully accept who he really was, knowing she was manipulative. He needed to accept accountability for his actions period! Pettiford and Aivery are the reason why he couldn’t go to the league not Tori. Also I didn’t like how Tori just let everyone talk to her crazy Ashton included. Tori pissed me off constantly saying that Ashton never called her like girl you must’ve forgot you got your number changed and never charged that damn blackberry up how was he suppose to get in touch with you? I hate when women don’t tell the father about the kid it’s annoying af and childish. And then I hate how the Author didn’t show any special moments between the two: the wedding, Tori giving birth to Robbie anything. I didn’t feel like Ashton loved Tori at all he resented her the whole damn book until the last few pages, but the readers are suppose to believe in this HEA?! who waits to the end of the book to reveal a secret like that it didn’t make no sense. Maybe if we could have gotten it in the middle and seen them work towards rebuilding with each other I would feel differently but 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️ And all those cameos could’ve been replaced with scene between Ashton and Tori.
Book three owes me nothing! It wrapped up the series very well with an extra bow or two. I was so curious on how things would go for Tori & Ashton after reconnecting. It was clear the chemistry was there but so was the soul ties. No matter how much they tried to keep things on surface level, they could not let each other go. I liked that we got to see the characters as adults and all that they overcame post college. I spent a good 50% of the book stressed and the other 50% in love with the characters. I can’t explain it. I was waiting for all the secrets to come out and boy did they. No matter how much I tried to mentally prepare, I wasn’t prepared enough. I welcomed the rollercoaster.
One of the rudest authors I’ve ever had the misfortune of interacting with. Someone unable to display any level of professionalism required of her esteemed position in the literary community. I asked her a fairly simple question regarding characters in one of her series and she went on a rant about me being “obsessed” with “fictional characters”. Never mind that she refers to these “characters” as clients that she herself non-fictionalizes and shows a high degree of obsession towards. It was just strange...As avid book readers, we’ve all been there. We’ve all had books that moved us; books we connected deeply with; books that were so good they stayed in our heads for months. That’s all it was on my end. I’m not the average book reader, never have been. I’m someone who steps into the world, into the characters shoes, visualizes the setting in its entirety, in order to complete immerse myself. To forget everything that’s happening around me, the characters I read about become real- it is the only way to connect with the world the author is crafting. That’s the reality of being a romance reader who has been reading books since they were a pre-teen. That’s not obsessive, that’s having a vivid imagination, the ability to position something uniquely. No different than an author calling her book characters “clients”, becoming so emotionally invested in their journey that they “speak to her”, make her laugh and cry. She speaks about her characters as though they are real, have taken on a life of their own and yet resents readers for doing the same. Love Belvin does it from the perspective of a writer, I do it from the perspective of a reader. I enjoyed her book so much that her couple reached my all time favs list, I became invested in their story because the love journey was unique, beautiful, and oh so totally relatable. No different than other women who have shared similar remarks regarding the series.
My question or comment wasn’t anything more than those posed by other users: users who felt just as passionately about one of her book series. I was taken aback and surprised at her level of animosity, especially given that just days before she commented on tv and film adaptations of books written by black romance authors....Let me tell you, if you can’t handle one person asking you a question about an IG page involving your characters, then you definitely can’t handle millions of people critiquing film adaptations of your books. You cannot complain about the lack of black women who support Indie black authors one minute and then go on a libel induced rant laced with accusations, the next. Don’t complain about the lack of support and then tell people not to purchase your books if they dislike your work so much...Especially if the question is pertaining to an IG page rather than the actual series. Regardless, I would think the answer would be to encourage debates, no? All great literary works are heavily debated: they have foes and fans alike, people on both sides of the aisle arguing passionately. If anything, it only solidified your position in the community, it boosts your profile. Don’t ask for fame and recognition one minute and then resent all that comes with it...especially when it’s someone who does nothing more than ask a fairly simple question! Especially when it is something you encourage. You created an entire IG page for a “fictional” gossip blog to encourage discourse and fan interaction with characters from previous books...
It left a bad taste in my mouth. If you don’t want to respond to a question, then simply don’t respond or better yet, block. But making nasty and personal remarks about someone who was moved enough to ask you follow-up questions? Moved enough to ask about the degree of significance one should place on an “updates” page littered with inconsistencies? Yikes. She created drama for a beloved couple several years after the fact - drama involving another woman -, on said “updates”/gossip page, except it was littered with plot inconsistencies that didn’t even fit with the original storyline...And you’re surprised that someone not only noted it, but, questioned it after the fact? Fans are invested in this couple’s HEA, we want to see them do well; if anything, it’s a testament to how good the story was. So when we see something that contradicts the original outline - and it detracts from instead of adds to their story -, of course, our first inclination is to question. It’s the first “update” provided in years...and it ends up involving drama with another woman...and it is completely out of place in the original series. You don’t know why someone would perhaps ask questions about it? No different than any other fan of any tv show, film series, etc. That’s quite normal, it’s similar to inquiries placed by other book fans of this series, as they too are always asking for updates.
Both her and her staff are incredibly nasty people. The type who literally get angry at you for asking a question on a public forum that can be ignored or filtered out. This coming after I paid her a series of compliments about her penmanship and the stories she crafted. Instead of getting angry at customers for questioning plot inconsistencies, use it as an opportunity better your craft? If you’re going to create a page and perpetuate it as an update blog for your “clients”, then at least ensure it fits into your universe.
Love Belvin once again blessed us with her amazing writing and storytelling! She is the queen of character and storyline development. I love how Love Belvin tells Tori and Ashton’s story in the past and present. She makes the past and present flow so effortlessly. Like many of her stories, Tori and Ashton’s begin in a very unconventional way. They both attend a HBCU. Tori is an aspiring boxer and Ashton is a pro bound quarterback. They definitely had a rough start but eventually they realize that there is so much more than what meets the eye. Their romance is a bit of a slow burn but I love the development of the love between them. I love that Love Belvin does rush the relationships in her stories. Tori and Ashton are from different worlds but their chemistry was 🔥. I hated that given their circumstances they could not live their love out loud. Ashton and Tori definitely went through their share of drama. Too many people interfering with their lives and too many misunderstandings on their part. Drama, tragedy, and miscommunication cause them to go over 10 years with no communication with each other. Fate would find them and they ended up reconnecting but their was so much pain between them that the reconnection did not go as expected. I highly highly recommend this series!!! Love Belvin did her thang once again!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This series was so chaotic. I loved it even though it tipped my anxiety. We get to spend so much time at Blakewood State University , had me all confused at first, like who wrote this again.
Tori & Ashton. I hated Ashton as both a student and an adult. It took entirely too many pages ( and probably a therapist) for him to be honest with himself.
You ever have a person or soulmate but you didn’t know that that person was your person until the season had passed or life happened and you are separated or moving in different circles, this is Ashton and Tori.
I was confused on why one series with just one couple needed so many books. When I was finished I understood that you needed the full history of Tori & Ashton to see the future (which I wasn’t sure he deserved). As a student Ashton was selfish and confused. His selfishness had nothing to do with materialistic things his selfishness was self serving in regards to his actions ( and inaction) and feelings for Tori and Avery. As an adult he was still confused but there was a layer of anger and resentment on top of that. I don’t like how he treated Tori and wasn’t sure he deserved her even though I believed they are soulmates. He he had been honest with himself so much of their story could have been different, less angst and more romance.
Whew!!!!! 17 hours of BOMBS DROPPED!!! What a conclusion to an amazing series! My emotions went through it! I was not expecting some of the things that tested Tori and Ashton but they made it through it! Love DID THAT! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Ashton and Tori were two tortured souls that somehow found their way back to each other. Kismet. The universe, and themselves, did everything to keep them apart. Their reunion comes with dark secrets being revealed, skeletons falling out of their closets and dealing with their past. Their love was muted, their love reckless and for a moment, it was hopeless as well.
This finale took me through so many emotions. I was angry, I was happy, and I also was on the verge of tears. I loved all the characters in this book. I loved how they were upper echelon, but hood as well. I can definitely relate to the ghetto in the characters. But most importantly, I loved the ending. LB put her foot in this one! I loved it!!
P.S. I loved the cameos from the characters in her previous books. If you haven't read them, no worries, it doesn't take away from the story.
A little over halfway through and I can start my review now. I absolutely loved book 1 and most of book 2. This book…it’s a no. I just feel like Aivery definitely won. When I think about how she constantly called Tori diseased and a dog, it drove me crazy that a highly intelligent young man like Ashton was even dating her. Let alone married her. She was mean and hateful. He fell in love with Tori but ended up letting Aivery manipulate him. When Tori left, everybody reached out to her, hired a PI to get to her. Except Ashton, because he was that mad. Did he not say ef everybody in the ambulance when Tori called for him to see what happened? Ashton had his entire family’s support but because Aivery’s manipulative tail was there every day, she gets the happy ending? They didn’t reach out to each other! Why was that put all on Tori. Just like Kenny, Tori went through all the things while Aivery got her happy ending while Ashton was depressed but managed to marry, make babies, and become successful. Tori became successful too but her entire world crashed before the fame and then she manages to find a garbage fiancé. Heck, I’d rather she found someone who truly loved her and her having to choose between the 2 and she choose him over Ashton and they just remain friends. Let’s not mention how even tho Tori was treated horribly in college and lost Ashton to Aivery, this book is Tori practically forcing her way back into Ashton’s world. The icy persona from her lasted 2 mins before she was softening to Ashton, texting him first, cooking for him, and sleeping with him like a fool, instead of having necessary conversations. Then she had the nerve to feel some type of way towards her cousins for being protective of her regarding her hasty decisions with Ashton, when those cousins were there for her when she left college after the crap hit the fan, lost her mother and then her baby. Oh, and now I guess she’s going to finally get her happily ever after with Aivery’s family and still have to deal with Maggie treating her like crap the same way her mother did when they were in college! He married Aivery but never spoke to NormaJean again! Make that make sense! He blamed Tori for leaving when Aivery’s relationship with Pettiford is what truly caused his injuries. I’ll finish the rest of the book because I made it to 60% and used my credit on the audio book but I’m already ready to move to the next story by Love, who are real adults and not college kids behaving like high schoolers. Not a horrible series but this wasn’t a favorable outcome imo. The only thing I have left to add since I am now finished is that I absolutely loved her cousins! I was so glad Treesha told Ashton about his son. I’m not even sure why she was keeping him a secret. He wasn’t just for her!

This highly anticipated final installment had me devouring each and every word, and I walked away with respect for both characters. Tori and Ashton did the hard work of getting themselves to wholeness. That hard work paid off each time they hit a wall in advancing their relationship. Long gone were the naive youngsters-I was impressed and inspired by the growth of both of them. This was stellar work from Love Belvin!
I must say that I loved every single cameo. I felt like it was a glimpse to some of my favorites thriving lives.
If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would! Love Belvin put out some of her best work with this series! Bravo 👏🏾 Now I’m off to reread it again...this is the only author that makes me read a book back to back...she’s got that magic!😅😉
A good story buried under horrible writing. The author uses wrong words, awkward words, butchers common sayings and phrases, poor grammar, everything that makes a author a poor author is found in this book. A 50% into this book I was about throw my e-reader across the room.
The final installment of the Muted Hopelessness Series was the highlight of my covid induced inclusion. I haven't been reading at all during the pandemic but this series seemed to put a pep in my step.
I really don't know how Belvin finds these characters...or how they find her, but the world she pens with them as the focal point is truly unique in itself. I found Ashton and Tori's story to be intriguing and amusing. Intriguing for how they ended up full circle and amusing how Tori's situation WAS the full circle. If you read it, you will get it, lol.
The character development was superb. Ashton was already somewhat mature at BSU, but we get to see him as a grown man with duties in tow. And Tori...wow; her growth was astronomical. Its crazy how Ashton started that process in her and she took off from there. The glitz, the glam, and the cameos from the LB Universe was a nice touch to this installment. Ashton and Tori had grown and so had their various circles in life.
The conclusion was hearty and left me satisfied. Though fiction, Belvin pens stories that can personally touch readers. I'm hoping her HEA's become reality too (fingers crossed).
This series was everything that I hoped it would be and more. Love Belgian took her time and developed memorable characters in Ashton Spencer and Tori McNabb. We followed them through an epic journey that started as young adults and culminated as mature adults. I laughed and cried, then cried some more. It was the Christmas gift I hoped for, and I spent every day since the release on 12/21/20, reading. I've read it twice and highlighted my favorite parts, and I plan to read it again for more.
Tori grew into an exceptional young woman who defied the odds of her humble start in life to become a successful, beautiful, poised and exceptional adult. I loved her heart and its capacity to love, forgive and love with her whole heart. I loved her unique journey, and wanted more. I could have kept reading her story for 200 more pages.
I love Ms Belvin's talented pen. She knows how to tell a story, and has become my favorite writer. This series is unique in the intricate crafting of the characters and their village. There was so much to love, that my words may not be adequate. I was blown away. Everyone needs to read this series. Bravo!
The hopeless romantic in me had her desired fulfilled. Wow a way to wrap up the muted series. Ashton and Tori had me go through every emotion. I wanted to ring both their necks so many times.
I am happy to see that they both have grown but they were back to some of their old antics when it came to one another and I got so annoyed, plenty of times throughout this book.
Still processing these two, but I am so happy I continued with this series. I don’t agree with many of the decisions these two made, but their recklessness made for a great storyline that was engaging and though provoking.
How many times can love prevail? If there is one thing Ashton and Tori represent it’s that true love never dies. The hold on these two was strong.
Wesleigh and Emmanuel were a match made in heaven as narrators for these series btw! You will be entertained!
This series is so good that i want to listen to all 3 again from beginning to end. I loved how this story was told from then to now. I am such a details girl and I felt like I walked away knowing everything i needed to know and not wondering what happened. The way their love showed back up years later after all they had been through. The way they had grown and learned to communicate with each other was good to see. I am happy with how their story ended finding there way back to each other even though so much heartbreak happened in between.
I absolutely loved this series and what Love Belvin did with Tori and Ashton’s characters. The growth. The maturation. And while I must confess I’m disappointed that Aivery’s nasty self didn’t get the ass whooping she so deserved, she got her own kind of karma.
This was a saga and I enjoyed every moment of it. I’m sad to see the series come to an end, but I’m looking forward to seeing these two in future stories.
I’m not sure why I gave this 4 stars. Idk I really did enjoy this series it was so much. Everyone had a backstory, no one can communicate, the depth of the main characters is just so omg. No one’s perfect and idk this series was just a lot. I really did enjoy it like idk. Also it was so black and for me at least rlly would’ve been hard to enjoy the same way as a non black.
I loved this series. It really is my fav series yet. I loved it. Don’t let reviews discourage you. This series is different from the other series with cameos from others characters. Just read it. I really can’t express how much I loved this series. It really had me in a chokehold all 3 books
Series was so good I really liked the chemistry between the main characters. It really irritated my nerves that the FMC took so long to tell the MMC about her past. I think the FMC deserved so much better and I really like this author’s representation of overcoming grief. I would have loved to see more of their forever story, but I’m happy that I at least got a epilogue. I think that Ashton is my new boyfriend.
Again…Love Belvin has taken me through the ringer! 😩 how DARE she do this to me! Soooo many secrets. Soooo many things that were being held and just heavy between Tori and Ashton. It’s gonna take me some time to get over this.
I love how it all comes together but Love took us on a wild ride! Tori’s story needs to be sang from the rooftops! She grows so much over these 3 books! I love that her happily ever after played out this way….this series was perfect!
This was my intro into Love Belvin and I enjoyed this series, loved Tori and Ashton's story so much. A few characters drove me crazy but we pulled through.
My only reservation was that the last book was too long. Almost 600 pages so some parts were repetitive
This one got to me! Ashton was not a saint. But he did not deserve to not know about his baby in that way! Im glad they could both move on. This was well written. I was still cussin in book 3! Lol
