This is pretty much what you would pick up at a gift shop for tourists. That said, it's full of interesting facts about the architects and builders, as well as containing tons of wonderful pictures.
Inside the book which I bought from a second hand shop in Canterbury is a note from "Mike" dated 19 July 1980. I was in Canterbury on 19 July 2019, and on Googling one of the characters who has a monument in the cathedral, found that I bought the book in his house, which is now a bookshop! Passed a good evening reading about the history of the Cathedral and looking at the photographs, reliving my time there and the Evensong services I visited. Would love to go back!
A quick, enjoyable read about Canterbury Cathedral. Filled with beautiful pictures. This is definitely a place I need to visit. The short history of the cathedral found in this book presents an easy to follow background to English political and ecclesiastical history. It is certainly not exhaustive by any means, but any layman could pick this book up and comfortably work through it. Highly enjoyable!
This book is an overview of the history, architecture, and key players in the story of Canterbury Cathedral. Pictures were amazing, but I could have used more textual history covering 1500 some years as a church.
Picked this up while visiting the Getty Museum stain glass exhibit. This is a concise, but beautiful, book about the history and architecture of Canterbury Cathedral.
