Aer-ki Jyr is one of the top 20 science fiction authors on Amazon due to his extremely long and ongoing space opera epic STAR FORCE, one of the longest military science fiction series ever written.
I have read all of the books in this series. The books have been getting better through the years. There are unique ideas and thoughts not generally found in a space opera. The fact that the editing is now much improved makes the series easier to follow. This series is tied together where sometimes in the past it wandered a little too much. I admire the author’s ability to crank another book each month and I really look forward to each installment.
The parts that actually moved the story forward were great. The problem is that more than half the book was another repeat of starforce philosophy, training and lightside indoctrination. The books keep getting repetitive with these segments - always a different species or perspective, but always about the same thing. I find myself skipping these parts - they were only interesting the first few times, now it is frustrating to read about the same thing being discussed with a different alien, with the same predictable result.
I quiet enjoyed the book. Overall a good installment in the series with good pacing, reveals and, as always, many more questions to be answered. The author is much improved from his early books, am excited to read the next one.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, particularly the training simulations that shamelessly stole scenes from Knights of the Old Republic and The Manadlorian as examples of lightside philosophy
