When the dear friend of the town’s beloved innkeeper is murdered, sleuthing couple Emily and Henry Fox don’t hesitate to step in. Something’s fishy regarding the property the victim recently purchased. The previous owner wants it back, the neighbors want it vacant, and the next of kin who stands to inherit the property is missing! Meanwhile, Henry and Emily’s daughter, Maddy, may be in grave danger. Maddy’s biological father has been prematurely released from prison due to a city-wide health crisis. When he shows up in Sugarbury Falls, Henry is determined to protect his daughter at any cost.
It’s time to visit with Henry, Emily and Maddy in sugarberry falls once again. After the emotional reunion with Emily’s sister Amy, who was missing for 30 years, the family is hoping for a quiet summer. Unfortunately, things are never quite that simple, so when a suspicious death rocks the tight knit community, Emily & Henry try to find the answers. If that’s not enough, due to a fast spreading virus, jails are releasing their non-violent inmates, which puts Maddy and her half sister Jessica in harms way. When both of them begin getting creepy messages from their father, who was incarcerated for being a “sperm donor” to his unknowing patients, they begin to fear he isn’t done with them yet.
As a HUGE fan of this author, I always have to read the entire book in one sitting, because they are just too good to put down. Diane Weiner has a style of writing that draws the reader into her stories, which for me is an awesome experience. The Sinister Course ends on a cliffhanger, which means the next book is gonna knock our socks off. #TheSinisterCourse
Action Mystery in Vermont This book is the sixth in a series that I have not yet read. The mystery portion is great and stands alone quite well. The part that is a portion of the story arc for the series, not so much. While the author spends significant time trying to include the new reader it past events, it does not flow well. I would strongly suggest reading the series in order. Will the established reader get tired of repeated details, I have no idea. The story has some unique things going for it, which is refreshing. There is a lot of dialog in the story which gives the details narration generally does. That took some getting used to but is not a detriment. I received this ARC book for free from the author and this is my honest review.
Always a pleasure to read. Keeps me turning pages without making my hair stand up. If you read the other books of the series, you'll love this one as well.
This is the latest in the series and I started with it. I will be going back to the beginning since they are in my TBR pile.
I figured out who killed Ruth early on but I had the reasoning incorrect. It is well written, the characters are developed, and the plot kept moving.
I found Maddy and Jessica’s biological father to be very creepy. What I did not like was the cliffhanger. I’m afraid by the time the next one is published, I will no longer care what happens to the character.
I loved this book. I really like the group of characters, they are so much fun and being so down to earth and likeable they feel like old family friends but I think it was the mystery that really hooked me in with all the twists the plot took. I kind of guessed who the killer was but was by no means certain I was right. You can listen to the book as a standalone but there is a couple of side plots that continue on from previous books, so you might find it more helpful to start at book one and work your way through the series. Also the author doesn't leave it on a cliff hanger as such because the mystery does get solved but she does set up the next book with a teaser that will have you eagerly awaiting for the next book to see what happens. Emily is hosting a book signing at her friend Coralee's inn for her best selling book surrounded by friends and family and the last thing she was expecting was it to end in tragedy. A rich business woman who is moving to the area announces that she has changed her mind and instead of build homes for veterans liked she planned she is going to build half way homes to help people like Emily's sister that need help to live on there own in the community. On the way home her car ends up in the lake. The land deal proved to be controversial but could she have been killed over the deal? The previous owner wanted the land she stolen from him back, the neighbours wanted to buy the land so nobody could live there. Coralee as the named executor of the will is not sure what to do with the property or even who's it is because the murdered woman's granddaughter has gone missing Andy's has no way to find her. Emily and Henry can't help but feel in to help Coralee. At the same time Maddy there adopted daughter gets some worrying news that her father has been released from jail early and is heading to Sugarbury Falls. Can they solve the murder and keep there daughter safe from a mad man? I liked the narrator. She has a pleasant voice and used it well to bring the story to life. I hope to hear her again. I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
Sometimes when reading one of the Sugar Berry Falls mysteries I can guess who done it and sometimes I’m right. In this book oh well bro I was totally wrong. I don’t know how this author comes up with so many great mysteries but she does and I’m glad she does. I love this book well add an in for the book signing of Emilys book signing Ian with Henry and her daughter Intow, Emily introduces her family to know friend of hers Ruth and unfortunately like normal Ruth isn’t with us for long. Who could’ve killed Ruth, was in her nasty neighbors at the cottage she just bored and wanted to turn into an independent living house or was that the previousthe owner of the cottage that you said you stole it from under him there are many suspects in this book and of course all the trials and tribulations Emily will go through trying to solve this case. It all made for an enjoyable afternoon as I read it all in one setting as usual. I highly recommend this book to anyone who like cozy mysteries with lovable characters and some not so lovable. Whether you like the characters know you’ll love this book I know I did!
10 ++++ stars!!!! Wow, there was so much going on, but easy to follow. Emily, Maddy and Henry get into twisted mess. Coralee's best friend gets in a jam, then Maddy's past come after her and Emily and Henry get involved to help them both and all heck breaks lose. You have to read this book for the details!! I lost a lot of sleep, wanting to know what is going to happen next. You won't be disappointed!!!!
Intriguing tracK found so much of what I enjoy from this story. Mystery, twist an turns, great charact rs and people easy to relate to.
thanks for sharing your talent with .e. Can't t wait to read the last book of this series and will look forward to reading other books by an outstanding Author .
No mystery, at least for long. Emily seems to be in the right place at the right time to see or hear something. Henry seems to be the only doctor in Sugarbury, despite him being part time. These things and more make the Sugarbury series sem like the writing is rushed.
Nonetheless, because my lack of being able to find other series where the f-word and everybody having sex isn’t present will keep me a reader, for now.
I love this series! You're pulled into this mystery plot in chapter one. The characters feel like old friends. The storyline weaves through a lot of evidence till who murdered Ruth is finally revealed. I will continue to read the books in this series so I'm picking up book 7 next.
Another great mystery happening in Sugarbury Falls. There was so much going on that Emily, Henry and law enforcement were working together to solve this mystery. Or mysteries. A little murder, some drugs, explosions and so much excitement. And then there's Maddie's drama. This is a wonderful adventure, don't miss it.
I love Diane’s books. They are fast and exciting. I don’t understand who does the editing but Kurt’s dog is a chocolate lab. In two of the books he’s mentioned as a black lab!
